Marion might have the best offense designed ever but he is absolutely atrocious at calling plays in short yardage situations and continues to show 0 confidence in QB to not make a mistake in Redzone
Catching up on the thread… Couldn’t agree more. Marion has a brilliant offensive playbook but his play calling is below average. He doesn’t seem to have a feel for the game and gets too conservative too quickly, sticks with the same plays where even the announcers were saying how easy it is to read what’s coming, and seems to forget all the offensive talent that’s at his disposal.

After the game Odom said we're going to have win ugly games this season. Doesn't sound like someone who has confidence in the offense.

I read it more as you are going to have to win some ugly games...

I feel like a broken record but.

DeJesus doesn't come up with a catch on first drive that might have been 7 and at worst was a big 40+ yard chunk play.

White has one he usually snags go through his hands. Another that could have gone for a possible seven.

A third play White pulled up on a route causing the over throw. It was an option route so maybe Sluka read it wrong I don't know but if White continues his route it's possibly 7.

KU has 2 NFL possible CBs as well.

Passing game hasn't been great, needs to fet better and I think it will. Sluka's not going to ever be a a super high completion guy. But he's going to keep drives alive with his legs and hit enough shots downfield to keep the offense moving.

Yes and no.

A good running game gives you a lot of control over the game. If we scored right away and it was 23-20 with 5 minutes to go, I don’t think we’d see the same outcome. Maybe it’s tied and we go to OT. Who knows.

The fact we had a sustained drive of nearly 10 minutes won the game. What allows that to happen, the run game. You know what else sustained drives do? Keeps the defense fresh.

Last year we flung the ball vs Kansas and got into a shoot out with them. Didnt exactly work in our favor, we were gassed and got bombarded.

Our running backs and OL won the game. Didn’t see many breakdowns on the line and the RBs kept moving forward and made all the key plays, including the fumble recovery.

Correct, Kansas took away our top passing options. We kept running it because sometimes you have to take what the defense gives you.

It’s not flashy and I know the passing game got a lot of hype in preseason. Tonight was why Sluka was brought in, if we had a pocket passer at the helm. We lose.

I hope Hajj or Friel get reps. SLuka can run but sheeesh you have Ricky White and Jacob De Jesus
I’m curious about Hajj as well. If he truly has a better arm and can run (even if not as well as Skuka) you gotta wonder if he could make the offense more versatile and potent. Such a tough call as you don’t want to make a change and it backfires.

His numbers at Holy Cross told the story.

He completes deep shots. He's going to keep drives alive with his legs.

I don't think he'll be sub 50% all season. I also don't think he'll get to 60% either.

He is what he is.

3-0 as our starter.

Beating a ranked Arizona State team in Sundevil Stadium, beating Wisconsin, beating Arkansas in the Bowl game. This game is up there just because of the national audience for it.
I’d go further. The win is higher bc a top 35 ranking was on the line and bc it is so critical for playoff contention.

Remember we scored a ton vs kansas last year with a passer vs most of the same guys for kansas. We just could not stop them last year

2 years in a row, 3rd game of season was a miracle win. Vandy win changed our season last year. This was a miracle also in that we only had a few big pass plays yet won. Kansas was going for the kill late 2nd q and the interception and our lucky td to close the half started to change things. And about 6 ku players had a shot at the ball on Sluka fumble and somehow we got it. Miracles do happen and we got a few last night.

Joe Spilotro-let your guard down..embrace it! It's UNLV not the Georgia bulldogs. But we just beat Kansas on the road we showed heart, toughness.. and on national TV to boot!
Hey man, please don't get this wrong. I'm as happy as I could be. Had trouble sleeping the night before the game, had trouble falling asleep. I'm very pleased. Just winning this game keeps some more extreme possibilities that we'd never, ever consider. So I am stoked.

But, lets say the replay at the end was overturned. Yeah, we'd bitch about getting the shaft. But we'd also point to 101 things we did wrong and how we gave it away. An inch makes a difference in a W and L, but it doesn't hide some issues. If they improve upon the issues, they'll win league.

We're not changing QBs unless there's something drastic. Even last year we lined up the offense and ran it till teams tried to stop us. When they did, we threw it all over the field. Again, Kansas wanted us to throw, gave a 7 or 8 man box and tried to get us to throw 20 or 30 times against it because they 2 all conference corners. Had White not made some bad moves and DeJesus not dropped a easy pass, that changes, but we took what they gave us and Sluka beat them with his legs

I do think you’re going to see defensive philosophies change against the Rebels. It’s apparent our strength has been on the ground. Sluka and others but especially Sluka. Whether it’s design or a spy, they are going to have start gambling that his arm is iffy, because his legs aren’t. It’s a pick your poison thing which is fantastic when you have multiple poisons.

Agree... I'm of the opinion based on my knowledge of KUs defensive strength, there is not a corner in the MWC as good as either Dotson or Bryant and if they try to put our WRs 1 v 1 it'll be a bloodbath... we were so close like 4 times last night to that big play.

It's a good point. A couple of their DBs will be playing on Sundays. We won't regularly see that the rest of the season.

Every road OOC games pays something. It is a big reason we schedule road P4 games is to get paid.
This payout is actually low given the circumstances. I'm not sure this includes our cut for ESPN or not. I'm guessing yes, since that is what they use first for paying road teams

Kansas actually has one of the better run D's in the country. They are very solid all around on that side of the ball

That was a pretty D. But if Sluka and the receivers have better sync, they would make it look stupid.
