I know of only a handful of fans that are giddy and still see greatness after a loss, so take it with a grain of salt … yes, some power people are extremely disappointed and have been in Harp’s ear. But it wasn’t necessarily because of last night, I don’t think it made a difference either way. Pretty much everyone is upset. But I don’t see it as being some ready to burst volcano, either. Then again, I don’t have a feel at all for Harp. There were a lot of reasons to fire Arroyo besides record and he did what he felt he needed to do. I can’t say how he feels about KK. I do think there’s something extra there when it’s not the AD’s hire. But that does not mean he should pull the trigger (I’m on the side of no, he absolutely SHOULD NOT be fired). I don’t know where he stands. Unless something stupendous is lined up as a no brainer and the deal is done/near done, I have a hard time believing anything is there, then again, maybe Harp is good at keeping things quieter.

I’m disappointed about last nights game but at least they gave us a ride in that game. The season was really bad, hell, I think we lost 13 of our last 22 with most coming in a very mediocre conference. It may be a year in which we don’t have a victory over an NCAAT team (not sure). The OOC was weak and we feasted on it, a lot of garbage wins along the way. If you compare MM’s last two seasons vs KK’s two seasons … not sure, but I’m guessing they are very similar, maybe a slight edge to Munchies? Either way … another blah season with a disappointing ending.

With KK here, I think we need some drastic changes for next year to have success. We can’t just repeat the same philosophy (on the court, recruiting) and expect a huge jump. And yes, I do think a significant jump is necessary or he will be gone. Anybody saying there’s no hot seat for next year is crazy. It’ll be there.

I’m hopeful he doesn’t try to Menzies his way out of trouble by playing Time Life Books and St Katherine’s 12 times next season so he can get to that (lol) benchmark of 20 wins. That’s an old metric that is absolutely useless nowadays. But the uni and press like to use it to designate a special season. Whatever. Eyes don’t lie.

It’ll be an interesting off-season, seeing if anything is approached differently or if we just stick with what we are doing and go with it and hope with crossed fingers.

UNLV vs Boise State

Harkless needs to put up at least 20, JJ3 at least 10, LuRod at least 10 and 10, and Webster needs to make a couple of timely threes. Gilbert needs to be on a very short leash tonight.

Like @j. spilotro said in a recent post, Boise is not all that good, but they do play within their plans and are always on schedule. We usually hang tough in the first half and the second half is where they always get us. Our effort has been on 100 lately so I'll just go out on a limb and say we squeak this one out just based on our hustle and again, the fact that its hard to beat a team three times.

End of an Era?

Somebody had posted about watching classic Runnin' Rebels or Big East games if they wanted to see good college basketball. Those were the days, for sure. Big East had coaches like Thompson, Carnesseca, Boeheim, Calhoun, and some young, whipper-snapper named Pitino. Are we seeing the final vestige of that era finally become one for the ages? I mean, really, what will we do for live nose-picking?

UNLV vs. Air Force

Currently the Rebels are closing out Air Force in OT with 40 seconds left 76-68

Great effort by Harkless!

I wanted to reach into the monitor and punch the announcer that kept saying "These Rebel fans really love the "air ball" chant". Finally in OT the other guy told him "I think they are saying "Rebels""

The MWC

Is a joke. Yes, UNLV should be handle AFA without Gilbert but that’s beside the point. If I were a ref on that court, I’d have merely separated the two and given a warning. And that’s it.

Two games is a gd joke. I hate this conference.

Kids yap, it happens. Issue warnings instead of trying to sanitize and pussify every little element.

If we were a threat, I seriously would think this was planned and they were out to get UNLV. With UNLV not being much of a threat, it just tells me the league flat out sucks across the board.

And this went under review and they still came to the same conclusion?

I don’t get it, I really don’t. I’m pissed off about this.

What winning does

I went to the WCC semis last night and it was entertaining, (St. Mary's vs. BYU and Gonzaga vs. San Francisco) Enthusiastic crowds and good games. Not one of these teams ran a weave. They all ran high pick-and-rolls with huge centers who could actually catch and handle the ball.

Surrounding me where I sat were 8 Gonzaga fans. Two traveled from Miami and six were local. The locals lived here between 6 and 13 years. None were originally from the Northwest. All of them became Gonzaga fans by watching and enjoying past NCAA runs.

NOT ONE OF THE LOCALS HAD EVER BEEN TO A REBEL BASKETBALL GAME. They had zero interest in Rebel basketball. When I asked why, they couldn't come up with reasons other than they just don't even consider them.

So, my point is, if Gonzaga and the Rebels had changed records I believe most of these people would be Rebel fans at least, and season ticket holders at best. They were all knowledgeable about basketball. They are attracted to Gonzaga because they win.

In the 90's we were the Gonzaga of the time. And for no valid reason, we threw the program in the dumpster. Had we been able to keep going we would have Millions of fans Nationally and regularly fill the T&M.

I am tired

Login to view embedded media Just watching the game made me tired.
My takeaways from the game
1. Fundamentals, Augmon used the glass like it was meant to be used.
2. Soft hands in the post and post position, Johnson and Butler make it look easy. I have forgotten what soft hands look like at UNLV.
3. Constant motion in the offense. I hate this stupid era of ISO.
4. Point guard play is huge. A solid point guard makes everything smooth.
5. .This maybe the biggest one. Traveling was called consistently.
6. Teamwork, I don’t think we will ever see great team basketball ever again. And I don’t just mean at UNLV.
