Schedule Speculation

I've been told that two great matchups are going to happen. Spoke with multiple people so I think there's real smoke here, but this isn't a confirmation of it happening.

1. A Texas school is coming to T&M
2. Away game at a top WCC team not named Gonzaga (My friend is an alum of the school and said this is being finalized)

If this actually happens, plus what we already have; @Dayton + Sunshine Slam MTE, it would help us tremendously. Not only that, but it would help rile up the fanbase and attract more attention.

Season Tickets

I know I'm excited for next year's basketball. Does anyone have a guess about how this recruiting will increase season tickets? I can see arguments for a small increase ( 5% - 10% with a wait-and-see crowd) or a large increase. (25%+ increase with fans who come back and new fans). I'm too realistic to hope for Tark-like crowds but I'd love to see crowds like we had with CDR. A big crowd makes the experience so much better.

Post covid generation

I got a team back together for AAU this year playing in the 3SGB Gold gauntlet and I will say these kids post covid are stubborn and weak mentally as a whole. It could be due to my age now but God damn these kids are really lazy and while the size and talent seems to be available I don't think any of them are near what writers are professing. One thing I will say for Southern NV is we have more taller kids than ever before at young ages. That being said, the basketball IQ is the worst I can remember with players I have coached. The ability to learn and grasp plays, study the game and understand higher level concepts is difficult for them.

If I were a coach , re: all this NIL stuff

At a school with decent resources ….

I would “allow” other schools to get some freshman. I’d want them to get their experience on the floor as a freshman elsewhere instead of working it into my current situation. Mainly because loyalty isn’t a thing anymore, for neither coaches nor players. And I would stay on him while he’s playing as a freshmen elsewhere. Mainly because tampering isn’t a thing anymore (too easy to do and the NCAA doesn’t care).

I’d use some schools as farm systems, let them get whatever benefit that school can get out of a freshman and then I’d take him as a sophomore, with a higher NIL than his previous school, he’d pretty much exhaust his options for leaving after that.

Dirty. Cynical. Ruthless.

It’s what the game has become, unfortunately. If I were a Kentucky, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Michigan, etc … that would be my complete recruiting plan plus one and done type freshman.

Is there any better evaluation of a player than a kid at the highest level he could play in? It dwarfs evaluation of high school kids.

What would you do? Does that sound like a solid recruiting philosophy to you?

OT: Sports Betting

When sports betting was illegal outside of Las Vegas and no one anywhere wanted to host sporting events here because of the dangers of sports betting scandals the counter argument to that was it would be easier to catch scandals because the sports books would report it similar to how they uncovered the ASU scandal. Earlier in the week they said on ESPN that the Detroit Lions and other NFL players suspended were all caught because the sports books where they bet reported them. Now Alabama fired their baseball coach for betting. And how did he get caught? Yep the sports book reported it.
