CDM Era: Transfer Portal and Recruits Thread

Lots of departures, not a lot of time to recruit transfers in.. yeah
That was baked in. When you are a G5 school with limited resources and coming off a 11 win season AND being a Top25 program. The big and well funded programs will be looking at your players.

It’s why Odom left. It wasn’t going to get any better than this group under CBO.

THIS COULD BE GOOD..

I wonder if this is for OC or lateral move? Never been an OC before so would hope for someone with more experience. But trust Mullen to build his own staff and getting his guy.
I believe Mullen doesn't hire an OC. He calls the plays. He used 2 position coaches at Florida to handle duties outside play calling that an OC might have like game plan or recruiting

Washington State loses HC

Norvell makes more than BSU's Danielson. ($1.8M vs $1.1M) Think Danielson will take our call? Of course I bet his salary doubles here pretty soon. Triples if they win a playoff game.
No offense to your fan base, I know you're one of the good ones. But they shouldn't be surprised. Your coach was placed into a no win situation. He got his team ranked, and all he had was a pay cut pending to look forward to. I'd probably leave too.

You guys should 100% poach Jay Norvell from CSU. If for no other reason than the hilarity of it.

Tell your Coug brethren welcome to the G5..

Sorry I mean G6.

Since the merger, does Fox and ESPN still work like separate entities? It certainly seems so, at least with preexisting contracts
A lot to unpack there, but from a 30,000 foot view Fox sports is separate from the rest of Disney/ ESPN. Here in the US, the a judge ruled that ESPN and Fox sports together in one entity would be too much of the market share together. In other territories, Disney owns the rights to Fox sports distribution. But I should state that media groups often "partner".

I hope this isn't turning into a New Mexico style blood bath with the number of transfers. No doubt the coaches that are leaving have told the players they will not be staying. Without a question the special teams and defense coach are gone along with many of their players.
Just have to embrace it instead of crying about it like Lincoln Riley was recently.

We’re going to get a lot of good players, we’re gonna lose some good ones too. Just the way it is, the most important thing is that Mullen keeps that culture of winning and working hard in place. CDM was on ESPN saying he’s been given scouting reports on every player on the team, new recruits, and every one in the portal. He said his son is real excited and they go over everything at home.

CBS wasn't considering them; at least not a few weeks ago. Things could have change, but the concern was the lack of return of investment. CBS' offer wouldn't have been anywhere near 14m, but that's more of they don't have the capital free in Q4. The new owner may choose to prop up in Q1 Paramount's film studios than make another investment into NCAA sports; but who knows. I heard of rumors about divesting CBS sports from Paramount.

I could imagine Apple taking them on a loss, just to get more of a footprint in the NCAA.

It's all G5....

Between 8-12 million. If they were getting valuations higher than that I think Memphis would have made the jump last time.

Media deal is the one sticking point for me and UNLV not joining the PAC. An extra 3-5 million (potentially) a year would be nice..

I'll stand by if there is no BIG12 invite then this was mistake long term. If there is then it was the right call.

Not because of conference prestige or whatever. Just dollars and cents of it. You can only go to the booster well so many times. At some point you have to be able to fund projects, hire coaches etc on your own.
I 100% agree.

Pretending that the PAC wouldn't be an upgrade in revenue and competition vs remaining in the MW is just kidding ourselves.

We are aiming higher, and really going all in. I thought we were going all in before, but we just slapped our wedding ring and the deed to our house on the poker table.

Staying was about the free P4 pass, and to a lesser extent the immediate potential costs of a move. We need cash now for contracts. Moving would have made that a bit more difficult.

It probably won't work, but I like it. We have some success and momentum, and we are fully leveraging that while aiming high. I respect that.
