Who’s gonna win at high noon?

I’m fairly young but I think Utah State are our Rivals in basketball.

Whether you like it or not, these guys have gone toe to toe with us going back to the Big West days.

They had some incredible teams that gave us problems.

fast forward to 2024 and none of us back then foresaw how far we have fallen.

I think they stick it to us.

I’m going with 55-51. The evil Mormons. I have never been to Logan, I don’t know what the demographics are these days.

What say you?

Hill to Medical RS/another ooc game TBD.

“Under NCAA rules, a player is eligible for a medical redshirt if an injury prevents them from playing in 30% of their team’s games. UNLV is set to play 31 games this season, and Hill has only played in seven, putting him under the threshold.”

“I know we’re one game under the overall limit, so who knows? If we’ve got to schedule another game to put him underneath and make it easier, we’ll definitely discuss that. He deserves another year.”

Big recruiting weekend

I can confirm that 7 commits are here; Greg Burrell, Kela Moore, Toby Moore, Jaylen Allen, Nijrell Eason, Tre Fulton, and Koi Pa'ao'ao.

Along with 2024 QB Jackson Stevens who I mentioned in the other post, there are some other notable names. 2025 high 4-star Matai Tagoia, QB Garyt Odom, and Oregon transfer Jaden Navarette are also here. Some other solid players are here, but asked me to not disclose it.

Brooklyn Hicks

I have always been high on Hicks and the game seems to be slowing down for him game by game. His 8 minutes last night vs UNM were electric and I love the energy he plays with. Would y’all like to see CKK give him more minutes these next couple of games over someone like JJ3? I’m tired of see the DJ and JJ3 lineup we are way too small and JJ3 shoots the ball almost every time he touches it (mostly deep 3’s or contested layups that he barley makes)

Line ‘em up: Predictions and Game Thread I’m assuming that

UNM will be a small favorite.

It wouldn’t be a monumental upset … these seem to be the type where UNLV shows up against UNM.

Aside from the opening 10 minutes vs SDSU, I felt much better about the Rebels performance against the Aztecs than I did in their 60 point win against Lipshitz U in the Cox.

UNLV 72
UNM UNLV 67

Utah State

Game on Saturday. It's winnable and one of four or five must-win games if we are going dancing.

Utah State has only lost 1 game - at Bradly. But they have 5 wins by 5 points or less. We have a common opponent in Akron. We won by two - they won by three. Our game was higher scoring.

They are a middling rebounding team at 111th Nationally but we suck at 269th. Their outside shooting pretty much sucks at 271st Nationally from three. Their scoring comes from the big body forward ( #1 - OSOBOR) and two starting guards who slash (#4 Martinez and # 12 Falslev) Much more of their scoring is at the rim the us. (I know we won't do it, but an occasional zone may hurt these guys)

If they wake up and shoot from outside they could kill us. If we rebound, shoot and limit OSOBOR to 15 or less we have a good chance.

45%

45% from three as a team. If we average 40% for the rest of the year we'll win 8 from the bottom 4 and 5 from the top 5. 13 conference wins and we go dancing.

Problem is, we won't average 40% from 3. We shot 27% against SDSU. If we shot 40% in that game we win. Shoot 27% tonight and we lose.

Most games this team plays will come down to 3 point shooting.
