Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

Not sure how true this is. I get the feeling the PAC-12 feels UNLV and/or UNR don't bring much to the table despite Vegas' TV market. If it is a package deal, I don't see it happening
If they dont believe Las Vegas doesnt bring anything to the table, they need their heads re-examined... Theres absolutely no way that there needs to be a package deal.. Remember, we left the WAC for the MWC before Reno did, why would it be any different. I dont buy it, I thinks its an easy cover for whats really happening behind the scenes and from folks in Reno who know they offer nothing...

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

The author doesn’t know what happened, all the article does is confuse the readers. There’s nothing preventing unlv from leaving on its own.

The only “hurdle” I can see is Reno lawyering up and being butthurt as Cal was when ucla left for the BIG. Fighting litigation AND exit fees may be too much money for unlv.

I agree I would also add/ask would the state want to even waste resources if that scenario played out?

I don't know.

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

It just seems so unstable. With the decline in linear media; none of these super conferences are sustainable. Streaming is incredibly expensive to upkeep.
Right now it’s about keeping up or being totally left behind. Unlv will not be able to keep up in the MWC. There’s going to be another round of poaching and pretty soon the conference will be nothing but scraps.

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

"Many around college athletics expressed surprise that UNLV was not included in the Pac-12’s initial phase of expansion. Located in a major city and with a football program on the way up, the potential is there.

However, politics are at play. According to those with knowledge of the discussions, separating the two — the University of Nevada and UNLV — is a hurdle. It doesn’t mean it cannot be done. And, perhaps at a later date, they could eventually move together to the Pac-12. Or the hurdle is crossed and UNLV moves alone?"

I don’t know, there’s a lot of money involved in these things and everyone has their hand out. I think Cal sued UCLA for joining the BIG without them and they settled on a small amount. Nothing consequential.

The reason unlv was left out, was NOT because of Reno. It was because some network executive or media liaison for the PAC thought it would be better to start adding markets first. Boise isn’t a market but they have a brand, so that’s obvious.

One thing I can guarantee is that every school in the MWC has a representative on the horn talking with multiple conferences about what it would take to join. Air Force already has one foot out the door to join Army.

The media footprint in the MWC just shrunk massively. This is not good news for remaining members including unlv.

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

They don't join until 7/1/26. It will cost the Pac2 a lot of money to buyout the MWC defectors. You know what will happen between now and 7/1/26? The collapse of the ACC for one. A LOT is going to happen in the next year. Pac8 is a move of last resort for UNLV.

NCAAfb is about to get a tummy tuck, face lift, brow lift, liposuction, butt implants, calf implants. There is a huge push to leave the NCAA for a lot of schools. No reason to hitch our star to a wagon with 2.3 wheels unless we have to,
Agreed! If UNLV wants to be in the PAC2, then we will get into the PAC2, otherwise I have no doubt the current President and AD along with boosters are looking for the best option for UNLV moving forward. Winning at Kansas would be a huge push towards the future of UNLV athletics!

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

But you think UNLV is in better position than SDSU?
Let's be real here. It really is thr Big 12 or nothing. SEC, ACC, and B1G are not never going to go after UNLV.
The Big 12 cares about basketball. SdSU is a better market, a much better basketball school and has a better football program historically.
SDSU moved to a second rate football stadium and it has shown in how quickly the football program has dropped off. SDSU couldn't even use the leverage of second place in the NCAA tournament to move on. I am not worried about UNLV which is in a very good position and will not be left behind unless they want to be left out.

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

Neveraz non-statement.

"The Mountain West Conference is aware of media reports regarding the potential departure of several of our members, and we will have more to say in the days ahead," Nevarez said. "All members will be held to the Conference bylaws and policies should they elect to depart. The requirements of the scheduling agreement will apply to the Pac-12 should they admit Mountain West members. Our Board of Directors is meeting to determine our next steps. The Mountain West has a proud 25-year history and will continue to thrive in the years ahead."

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

I wrote letters to all of the Nevada Board of Regents from Southern Nevada asking them to address the yahoo article that alludes to them being the hurdle and holding back UNLV.

Only way to get separated from UNR is to start putting pressure on the regents. You can find their emails and contact information on this webiste. https://nshe.nevada.edu/regents/

Pac-12 Rebuild Update...

IMHO The Pac-2 is foolish if it doesn't offer UNLV. Such a no-brainer, so something went on to have that not happen. I see it turning around very soon now that the other shoes have dropped. At this point, if it were me I'd take UNLV and UNR, basically get the whole state despite Reno's relative lameness. SJSU is geographically and market-wise worth considering, but they are so meh. Maybe Wyoming. Yeah it is a small market, but it is the entire state.

Still in shock over the whole thing. Not how I would have played it. Also, I have seen it mentioned here and on the WCS board that the Pac-2 will pay the exit fees for your new traitors? Dunno where that comes from. I could see us chipping in, but beyond that.......?

I'm not overly concerned (yet.)

I don't think this thing is anywhere near completed.

Yep.

There is zero reason to panic...(Right now).

Even if there was, what's the board of regents going to do?

State isn't going to waste money or resources on this in a court battle I don't believe.
