Ok so here goes my Devils advocate post because I'm all aboard the bye bye Kevin train and have been since Bryce Hamilton graduated, I thought he should've been gone after yr 2 just as a "clear house" situation since our roster did the same.. that said I'll play out the following:
1. UNLV has gone all in on football. For at least next year Kevin is fairly cheap option and we invest money into growing football..
2. Kevin keeps the best portions of his current roster. Rob stays, Hicks stays, DJ stays, Henley stays, Pape stays, Evans stays and is eligible. Everyone else is expendable.
3. We keep our 2 current 2025 recruits, both seem pretty decent. We add 1 more recruit.
4. We add 3 portal guys that are impact players. That all, we don't need to replace entire roster every year, go get a true 5 big man, get a sharp shooter, and get a PG that can spell DJ.
5. Add an X&Os special advisor, you know someone very experienced that can help Kevin develop his coaching abilities. Maybe he's written a book?
6. Pull the pressure cooker from him after yr 5. Get him to agree to a program friendly extension with heavy performance incentives and where the buyout is minimal but shows commitment to him. Maybe taking the "you'd better or you're gone" feeling away helps him loosen up.
Look, I don't think Kevin can save his job this year. I think he's gone. But for arguments sake, he takes the above roster and makes a tournament because there is talent there, it costs us almost nothing and we can just invest in football.
