Probably nit-picking here but the end of 3rd quarter hype the Rebels do dancing around the field is really odd, especially when you’re losing at the time. Heard some people behind me screaming at CBO about it after the team started the 4th quarter with some mental mistakes and a 3 & out… “Maybe the players should have been focusing on the game-plan instead of f’n dancing around!!”
If the point of this is to hype of the crowd, they should dump it. If we’re winning, the crowd doesn’t need to be hyped. If we’re losing, it’s just a really bad look. Meanwhile BSU started the 4th quarter showing they were all business.

Yes. Teams did the same thing vs us last year once the figured it out. Stack the box, slow the offense, put pressure selectively. Our blocked punts a defensive turnovers have helped make the field shorter and in turn increase our ppg. But in between those plays we re really slow down and unless it's a broken play or deep shot, we don't move the ball enough with the guys we have available
Last year UNLV got blown out of the water by BSU. This time it was bad calls by the refs, a poor decision interception, and some dumb penalties that lost the game for UNLV.

We have to win out and maybe that will earn us a trip to Boise for the title game.
UNLV without question can win out, but the CSU MUST lose at least one game! My feeling in the BSU v UNLV game was they had a huge advantage of two weeks to get ready for UNLV, while UNLV had a short week to get ready for BSU. I think UNLV will play much better if they get to meet BSU in the MWC championship game. If we play in the MWC championship game, I see UNLV winning by two TD's. I made no guess on the first game since I was worried about the lack of prep time for UNLV verse the two weeks for BSU.

A Lot can change but..

Our current attendance is most likely a momentary illusion. I think we can do well with attendance until the traitors split away. But after that it will be almost impossible. New Mexico, AF , Wyoming and UTEP will not generate the interest needed to get to 40K. It will be back to the mid 20's ( AT BEST) - if we are winning. There could be a couple of OOC games that could generate attendance, but that will depend on where the P4 conferences go. If they completely split away from the have not's then we'll be truly in trouble.

Our new conference will be somewhat better than Conference USA - but not by much. Conference USA averaged 15,600 attendance last year. For us to get to the low 30's we'd have to double that. I don't see it.

The traitors leaving well and truly screwed us. However much you hate them, it isn't enough.
If you look at the best attended games at UNLV, they are BSU, unr, Wyoming and Hawaii. SDSU, Utah State, CSU and Fresno bring almost nobody to games in Las Vegas. The question will be more about what teams we schedule out of conference.

UNLV is still in position to get into the national championship playoffs. It depends on if Memphis wins out, including a game against Tulane, and also the same with Army. If they both lose, then CSU must lose a game, and then UNLV will be playing against BSU with the winner likely going to the playoffs. UNLV only lost one AP vote and still has 7 votes with the coaches poll. The BSU game didn't help UNLV, but it really didn't hurt them that badly either.
And if we make the CCG and lose to Boise, then we’d be heading to the LA Bowl as Boise would be in the playoffs (assuming they win out from this point on). LA Bowl is a step up from the other MWC tie in bowls.

Of course, this will all be a moot point if we don’t take care of our own business

I can't remember how many votes we had but I think we actually got more votes after the loss in both coaches and AP than we had before.
I think it went from 5 in week 9 to 4 in week 10 in the AP. Not sure about Coaches. But that's still pretty cool. Respect and recognition of two good teams, where even the loser wasnt penalized much

We can now prepare for the El Pollo Loco Charred Cilantro Chicken Bowl.

We think we'll be able to schedule a few quality OOC teams and we'll be O.K. But that is just $ 10 billion or so away from not being reality. I can see within two years the Power conferences entering into an agreement that they will take a huge pile of cash and part of the agreement will be they only play other Power conference teams.
If that's the case, none of this matters anyways.. there would no longer be any benefit for the G5s to stay aligned with the P4s.

Great game, Rebs

Boise surprised me in that they didn’t make many mistakes at all. Jeanty is still a beast, we did a good job on him. But you take something away, you’re softer elsewhere.

I thought the Broncos defensive game plan was really good. And UNLV never adjusted to the pressure. There are many areas you can point to in a loss but the consistent pressure was one of them.

It looked like a program who has been there before sticking to their guns, trusting the plan vs a team that’s trying to get there but can’t quite figure it out yet. It looked like Boise knew they’d win the game and UNLV hoped they’d win the game.
If CSU loses a game, and UNLV ends up playing BSU in the MWC championship, then we will be on even footing instead of two weeks rest for BSU compared to a short week for UNLV. My expectation is that UNLV will be ready and adjust the next time they meet!

What If’s?

I say this, in 2 years UNLV is with Boise, forget rest of the conference. If UNLV done this 25 yrs ago, UNLV be big 12.
You have to win in vegas. Odom brought talent and can coach, now it's about beating boise.
The MWC gave an unfair and huge advantage to Boise State. The scheduled BSU with a week off before the UNLV game, then they schedule UNLV to play a Saturday game with the game against BSU on a Friday which is a short week. If they are going to give one team the week off before, they should never schedule the other team with a short week. It also didn't help that the refs made some bad calls that mostly likely decided who won the game.

GCU to the Mountain West

We need more basketball schools period. We should be able to get GCU at a discounted share of the media revenue. They have been a quality program recently and adds a great market.
Any full fledged members that have football will likely drive the media payouts lower than what they currently are realistically. So adding GCU, and I think they should try to get St. Mary's, will get us much needed additional conference basketball games and add 1 (or 2) tournament quality programs.
GCU has 20X as many students as St. Mary's and most likely 20X as many alumni!

There in lies the problem.

The conference is weaker top to bottom which forces you to schedule up in OOC. By doing so you are almost forced to go undefeated because you won't get any help with conference victories.

Boise can lose to Oregon.

But there are enough quality wins in the current MWC to get you back on track. Same for UNLV, the Syracuse loss hurt but UNLV was still very much in the mix if they had beat Boise. Add to that a convincing win vs Fresno who's 5-2. Beating teams like Wyoming or UTEP don't carry the same weight.

That's my biggest concern about remaining in the MWC, we become a better version of CUSA but Im not sure it's ahead of the AAC or even the MAC. (Add Toledo and NIU would help) Add Tarleton State and NMSU, not so much.

Boise also played at Oregon, vs WSU and vs OSU... Liberty didn't schedule anyone, Navy/Army only scheduled the ND game. There conference affiliation yes sucked and there isn't a UNLV in either of those conferences but if they had added more top tier G5s or one more P4, then there might be some argument... Liberty for example played a terrible OOC.
UNLV will have to go out and schedule better road games to avoid the 1 loss and you're out but it's not exactly just because the conference is weaker

Is that the tie breaker if CSU loses one and we finish tied with them?
Yes, it possibly won't come into play if their loss comes to a team we beat- ie- Fresno or Reno... and before people get started, the MWC is beyond terrible behind UNLV and Boise. CSU is barely surviving against these teams, a loss will come
