Before we witnessed it happen, one huge drawback I didn’t contemplate with the go go is losing TOP so badly if you’re too efficient on offense.

We’ve crushed on turnover margin. That’s been a tremendous advantage, as much as any we have.
This is part of the reason why I think we're seeing so many passes... we score so fast teams are straight giving up on the run and using the passing game instead. We're sacrificing the real estate to not give up the huge plays. It's also exhausting our defense.

Defense

I’m no college football expert but just from an eye test it seems our defense does tend to sag off receivers giving them space in the first 10 yards off the line. A good QB can take advantage of that as we’ve seen in a couple games now. If we can tighten that up or get a better pass rush or both we’ll be much better.
So my theory is that this happens to be our defensive strategy to keep things in front of us. We've been burned alot less this year on deep balls but in exchange we've given up a ton of yardage. Last year we were more aggressive but got burned on deep passes. Our run defense has also been more stout. It's odd because the number of passing plays run in the past 2 weeks has been about 20 more than the highest average in the conference... if teams just flat out abandon the run, we're going to give up alot of the cushion stuff and try and prevent the big fast hitting plays. I'd like to see a bit more aggressive on the defensive front instead of sitting 3, but the rate our offense scores, we're not exactly eating clock

Little concern about the injuries. Hopefully it is just minor stuffs.

“Did you guys win again?”

I got asked this question when I walked into a gas station today here in Austin TX- by a guy checking out that glanced over and saw my UNLV shirt (as one should always rock, but much easier recently).
Me: proudly answered with a big smile - ‘Yess Sirrr!
Guy: responded with a chuckle - ‘nice… wow
Me: ‘keeping it going
Guy: ‘ya man, keep it going

It hit me as I was walking out…
He asked… ‘Did you guys win again?’

How did Hawaii stay in the game against BSU? Anything we can take from their approach?
They didn't let him get past the first tackle. Take away the 54 yard TD after Hawaii gave them a first down off penalty I believe, he went for 5.3 yards a carry and no TDs... they have to feed him. Hawaii just shot themselves in the foot to many times, but that game was there for them. He's going to get his yards, that's what volume carries will do, you just can't let him get 50 or 60 yards runs

They gang tackled Jeanty. He got his yards but kept him in check a lot of the night. He's going to bust a few big runs. He's just that good. It's limiting how many. Plus if you get them in 3rd in long have to get off thr field. Cannot let them extend drives and wear you out.

Oregon State vs Reno University

Actually both teams are just bad and UNR took advantage of OSUs mistakes.. I watched the entire game. OSU went away from running the ball and Reno burned them to tune of 4 interceptions. Oregon St defense was terrible on the RPO looks by Lewis but it took a while for them to take advantage of that. If McCoy has to throw vs us, our defense is going to eat him alive. I imagine they're going to try and run, which has been really a strength of our defense. They're just not built to throw 40 passes

Line ‘em up: Predictions and Game Thread USU

Historically OSU has been a bad team over the last 50 years with one good run from around 2000-2012. Since 2013 they have been 59-79 with one good season in 2022 otherwise they would have had a much worse record. Everyone will agree UNLV has been really bad and with a record of 50-86, the record doesn't look that bad when looking at that of OSU. They have been the doormat of the PAC.
It's pretty much the same for every team not named Boise in the new Pac... WSU has been fairly mediocre with good years sprinkled in here and there, CSU/SDSU same..Fresno consistent but not exactly a national powerhouse and USU has a few years here and there as well... yeah, we're historically terrible, that doesn't change anyone else's historic mediocrity
