Zags Expected to Join PAC for Hoops

They keep saying Memphis still in play. I'm not convinced. (They being message boards).

If PAC were able to grab Memphis I do not want to hear anymore nonsense about the PAC and MWC being equal.
There is still some smoke here. Everyone has a price. The interest was mutual; but the price to get it going is going to be hard for the pac to swallow. I don’t think it happens. Its a bad play long term for all parties.

Sacramento State

So @Loyal Coug1 how are you feeling about adding Gonzaga? Im guessing they're coming in at a full media share for 1 sport...
I am not a fan of this at all. I see that our agreement let's them (all schools I assume) keep half of their future NCAA BB units, as opposed to the Pac-12 which split them equally. Part of the reason for our war chest. I wonder what will happen to Gonzaga's WCC-earned units? Must be a 6-year shit ton, and they have 2 more seasons to add to it. $5 sez they already have a similar cherry deal with the WCC.

And if Gonzaga gets to share in our FB media rights, that will be a travesty. "Oh you can keep half of your BB money, but share equally in our FB money". WTF if true. And a part of their "value" are their high profile OOC games, for which they will keep all the revenues.

So yeah, not a fan. We'll see how it plays out.

UTEP Officially Joins MWC

Not to mention their football stadium was literally falling apart. Obviously since joining the MWC they have done a 180 on infrastructure for their sports.
I had (and have) never been put there. My first year at UNLV was the year after TCU was gone. Heard a lot of good things about their support staff though.

I guess that's unrelated 😂

The PAC is paying a steep price to add Gonzaga, IMO. Full share? It’s obvious that Wazzu and OSU panicked and gave Gonzaga what they wanted. Remember that the defectors don’t have a say.

Their focus should be on poaching the AAC but they can’t get there.

It's nice but PAC still sucks.
It's all Football, money money
With ACC having issues with FSU/Clemson, if I am PAC, see if Stanford/Cal/SMU interested to comeback, still not great league, but it be 6th behind ACC/Big 12 in football.
How much money can PAC get?
UNLV in MWC is not long term solution, taking cash now, is nice, but long term it's B12.

We'll know in a few years.

Nobody should be claiming any type of victory at this point. Saying UNLV 100% made the right or wrong call.

Way to early..

This is why it's silly for us to crow about their 'failures'

And while football is the driver here.

That is a significantly better basketball conference.

Texas State....

Us taking the short term $$ will be a huge mistake.
I understand that sentiment, but I don't think it's a real world solution. Let's say that they offered us the same deal they offered to the AAC schools. 2.5 million towards exit fees and 100% media rights sharing. That means not only are we going to have to cover 15.5 million, but there will be 2 years where we don't get any media money from the MWC. So that's 25.5 million in the hole at a moment where we desperately need to extend Odom, may have to consider buying out KK's remaining year AND pay for a new MBB coach, and consider extending/giving a raise to Lindy for the WBB. To join a conference where we won't have full voting rights and won't be getting the CFP disbursement for at least 2 years as that was another rider on the PAC offer to Memphis. Instead we get an extra 25 million (10-14 upfront) minimal from the exit fees, plus an extra 1.8 million estimated from the CFP and another nearly 2 million a year from the redistributed shares of the traitors for the next 2 years.

That's a net difference of at least 60 million dollars over the next 2 years. I don't see how we can ever make that call.

Even if the PAC gives 10 million a year (which I don't think it will), and we get as low as say 6 million a year for our deal it would take 12-15 years before we broke even.

Sluka ex-coach.

What do you mean by turned down? Did Circa offer to pay, and the coach turned them down because he didn't want Sluka back after he had already quit the team?
The Circa offer came way late in the game. Mostly publicity for Circa, which is what I think White was hinting at with his post game comments...
They rejected it because Sluka had already left the building literally.. there was also the appearance of what that would look like nationally after the story blew up...

Yep the MWC is temporary for UNLV. If FB can remain a top 25 program and score some huge wins, maybe schedule a made for TV home game against a Bama or other perennial top-5 team and near sell out Allegiant we’ll be well positioned for P4. And if we never get that invite our fallback will likely be the PAC which at some point will want us when one of their top schools gets a P4 invite. No permanent enemies.

I don't get why they would turn down the MW a few years ago only to join the MW now. I wonder how much different the deals were?

I was a big proponent of UNLV staying in the MW but this stings.

OT NOT MWC BUT FUNNY POTENTIAL COLLEGE FB OUTCOME

Both Army and Navy are atop the AAC standings. Because of when the Army/Navy game is scheduled.

It's possible that they could face off in the AAC conference title game a week before the actual Army Navy game.
Man, lots of potential messy situations could come from CFP in all this. CFP needs a loss on both sides before end of regular season!
