Anyone else scared Odom will be coaching for FSU next week?

IMO, Odom would have stayed till he got a mid to top level p4 job. Something he could quickly build into a consistent winner. But I can't believe he'll stay in order to play against Montana State and Northern Colorado.

I disagree to an extent.

Mid level P5 jobs are brutal.

You think Indiana has a chance to compete in football in the Big10? Vandy in the SEC?

You've got a much better shot at a G5 with new set up to get into playoff format.

Forgetting the realignment stuff which may push him out the door, sooner, I don't think he would leave for just any mid level P5 job.

He will most definitely take the FSU job at the end of the season if this realignment isn't settled before the end of this season. Absolutely. 100%. Without any questions. This isn't even up for debate. And if it's not settled real quick, Marion is following or taking a HC job elsewhere. We couldn't even offer him the HC job at that point.

Even if the regents weren't at fault, they need to be replaced for us even having to question their motives.

Here's the thing. There may not be an exit fee at all if conference is dissolved.

You have to have 8 teams for conference. We have 8 but Hawaii is football only..We only have 7 (less in some cases) for Olympic sports basketball and softball/baseball.

I'm thinking current MWC teams could possibly petition that the conference has already been dissolved...
They will backfill as necessary. Big Sky has a $ 5,000 exit fee.

You can leave without any notice, you just get stuck with a $32 million bill I believe, or $18 million with a two year notice? UNLV has a job of having a great season, and then they can afford to buy their way out of the MWC! Finding a future landing spot is more important than the timing. Currently SDSU and CSU both suck in football, so they would go along for the ride without hesitation. I have no clue what UNLV has done, if anything, but I trust in the current AD and President that they will not leave the athletic department in the mud and will work on a solution that benefits what may be the only top 25 team in the MWC or PAC2 with the possible exception if Washington State wins and becomes ranked.

Well we were almost to the end of our contract and more than likely with an intact membership like we had it would have been a lot more money with a new contract. Look what our basketball teams added to the NCAA tourney. Hell, we had 8 schools, 4 teams, shown on CBSSports for our 2nd round games back to back where we were the only conference on for 11 hours straight. Our football teams have been doing a lot better and we were the top G5 conference. Yes, our next contract would have been a lot better. Now, we are ****ed. Our 8 remaining schools will be looking at something comparable to Conference USA money. Somebody here mentioned $750k per team.

There really isn't though. You need a 2 year window to announce intentions to leave. We can't just wait until contract expires and say peace out and join a conference.

UNLV hasn't fallen. Right now UNLV is the darlin of the MWC in football, and if they can keep on winning will put us in a position to leave the MWC and PAC2 in our dust. We still don't know why UNLV wasn't offered, or if UNLV was offered and turned them down what the reason was for that. As for the Board of Regents, if they actually had any meeting, then there would be a public record of that meeting.
Look, I've been enjoying the past year just as much as anyone. But 1-2 good years do not make up for past failures.

That is two years away. Plenty of time to figure things out. Win and win big and UNLV will land in a good place. UNLV will be favored in all the games through the rest of the season with the possible exception of BSU. Oregon State being destroyed in second half verse Oregon. They are making the Oregon QB look like an All American!

I 100% would have agreed until this new conference news dropped.

In the past I felt you had a better shot at a quality G5 program vs a middling P5.

But a revamped MWC will likely fall behind the AAC and probably a new look PAC when the dust settles. (Provided UNLV doesn't get an invite).

Big 12 in Vegas?

The Big 12 AD didn’t come to Vegas to conduct a site survey for their football or basketball conference championships with both tied up in long term contracts that don’t expire for football at AT&T in Arlington until 2030 and in hoops at T-Mobile in KC in 2031.

Also, IMO some are under selling UNLV’s value and it’s not like the Big 12 is the BIG or SEC and they are the only P4 conference that has admitted G5 schools. I actually feel right now UNLV football has the highest ceiling of any G5 program in the country.

Yeah..

This may have been a coordinated power move if that's the case. (And pretty brilliant actually) You don't need to take more than 4 because you no longer have enough Olympic sports..

We need a lawyer in here stat!

@reagan21
Okay I checked on softball. We will be down to 5 members. That is not enough. It's the reason our men's soccer team plays in the WAC. Now the question is can the MWC allow just 5 teams. Is it an NCAA minimum. I don't know.

Whitfield and Harper You Have ONE Job Right Now.

Wow, I hadn't looked into it that deep. But, I do recall that you have to have so many Olympic teams in a conference just so that the conference can sponsor that sport. For example the MWC would need to have at least 6 or seven softball teams for the conference to sponsor it. I don't believe AF has a softball team. We could be under the limit just for that one sport. I'll check tomorrow. My brain is about fried for the day. edit: And, as you said no softball from Hawaii as they are only football.

No! I don't think he will leave at the end of this season. I think he knows what he wants to do to the program, and is the type of person that will stay to make sure his job is finished before even considering a move to another school!

I'm all for it to be honest.

One interesting point was is the MWC even a conference now? Hawaii is football only..

Hmm..

Could UNLV petition that the conference has already been dissolved?

Is that a potential avenue for early out?
