So, do any of you Vegas-ites want to talk about our potential new conference, aside from this Triboda guy and his 23,000+ posts? Geezus. This Coug can dribble on and on, but I have never seen anything like that.

Never been to Vegas ( I don't gamble), But hey, I could probably talk myself into a roadtrip.

No offense, but nobody wants to travel to Pullman. Good luck in your new conference…wutever that is.

Western Athletic Conference is a good destination for you guys to land.

And Vegas is so prolific with its massive support for UNLV. Montana gets more fans than you. But go F-yourself. WSU is well known for its travel to away games and Bowl games. But you don't care about that. 2 million+ people in your urban footprint and we kick your ass in attendance with our 40,000 Footprint?

I hope it happens. I think we can kiss P5 status goodbye, but, it would easily be the top G5 conference which would help some with the playoffs expanding.

I apologize for Scrub..

Part of the issue for Vegas (not so much now but it still holds true today to some degree) is that there are tons of transplants with previous allegiances.

Add in years and years and years and years of mediocrity.

Add in Golden Knights Hockey drawing 17k plus 42 games a year plus the Raiders. Only so much disposable income for people.

And we have some dipshits on my board. Not sure if they rise to the level of Scrub and Tripoda though. Wah hah hah!

I’ll be happy to be with OSU and Wazzu. Definitely football games I’ll be excited to see on the schedule but I don’t think it’ll help the MWC too much. I’d be surprised if the TV money increases much or if we get any more respect nationally.

Love your Avatar (?) pic buddy. Demure, virtuous young ladies that we would all be proud to take home to mom.

Oh, and speaking of Reno, when I was there, we came from California via one scarier than shit highway that twisted down some God-awful place. Must have been a 2,000 foot drop.

Ain't going there again.

I think the new conference would be an upgrade for us. Curious what kind of TV contract will come with it. Better than what we have now for sure. Though part of that is the market rate for college TV contracts. Everything is going up.
I think OSU and WAZZU helps the bottom line. Not great markets, but big state schools with decent fanbases.

I've looked at it the same way. As of right now I would love to have WSU and OSU in the conference. I think that they would help with the Media money. But, part of me worries that WSU would turn into another University of Idaho if they don't make positive moves to firm up a conference whether it's merging with us or just rebuilding. I worry about what will happen to them if the transfer portal cleans them out.

Personally I don't think there will be a mass exodus of players and coaches, at least not right away.

Sure these players are no longer capable of making the playoff, or at least it is a more difficult road now.

But...

Is it really?

You could make the argument for Oregon State. They have been legit good for the past couple of seasons. But still, them over taking Washington or Oregon this season will be tough.

The question is how will these school pay their coaches? Are they screwed now? Do they make enough revenue through other means besides the TV money? DO they have good booster support?

OSU and WAZZU wasn't exactly fighting USC and Oregon for players that much anyway. In a new Pac14/West, they could be the new Boise State. Easier path to success. It's not like players were flocking to those schools expecting to win national championships.

Now, why you want to drag U of Idaho into this? Maybe @Loyal Coug1 let slip about the Battle of the Palouse and the Losers Walk tradition they need to bring back. Or maybe there's some indignity about Idaho having previously been a member of the Pacific Coast Conference, the predecessor to the PAC-12, whose history the PAC counts as it's own. Or maybe it's just cuz things like TV and market size have become more important than things like tradition, quality of education, and the like. All said, Idaho has definitely slid down the bannister, but they're where they need to be now, back in the Big Sky.

See what you made me do, @Meister_Rebel ? oh, well... no harm, no foul.

lol. I was thinking more in terms of Idaho dropping from FBS to FCS. I would hate to see that happen to Wazzu. I don't really think it would. I should have added "no disrespect to the U of Idaho". They are both good academic schools.

I hope it happens. Adding 2 good schools like WSU and OSU would only help IMO. The MWC media contract I believe is only 2 years out (2025), so if they couldn't renegotiate it now, I would think it would be a higher value on the new contract.

But don't you think WSU and OSU will want all the increase for themselves? Similar to a Boise situation. If so, why bring them in?

Would they want it? Sure, who wouldn't? But what other options do they have in this case? Do a new media deal that's equal for all parties, but have incentives for teams that make the NCAA basketball or major bowl games or something.

I would like to know what Craig Thompson agreed to with the BSU arrangement. Is it for the life of the conference or does it end at the end of the current media contract. I had seen some media articles where BSU threated to sue the conference if their arrangement is discontinued at the end of the current media contract.

Perhaps a merger into the Pac-12 could terminate that arrangement. Whatever it is it has to stop.

No worries. They were trying to follow BSU's lead from FCS to FBS, but it just didn't work out for them. They'll never have the resources for FBS. Even one of their most prominent alumni, Mark Schlereth, campaigned for them to go back to FCS. "It's where they belong, where students can travel to most league away games."

A little before my time buddy. But great article. It was apparently pretty crazy back in the day. We play those guys in 2024.

To subsequent posts - yeah if the Mtn West folds into the Pac-14, seems as if the media deal will die. And ours expires, so WSU has nowhere to go but up. Beggars can't be choosers. And yeah, Idaho never should have flirted with D-1A. Ever been to the Kibbee Dome? Nice facility - for the Big Sky. You know they had to play some games in Pullman to meet whatever the attendance requirements were for D-1 back then. Was weird driving past the stadium and watching Idaho playing on our turf.

And Idaho never brought much of a crowd. We would play against them (UI is 8 miles away) and not even sell out our - at the time - 38,000 seat stadium. Coug fans said meh, Vandal fans weren't interested. Until 90-91, when the bastards beat us twice. Sad days....

I went to the UNLV @ Idaho football game which I think was about 5 years ago at the Kibbee dome. No beer available to purchase except they had one section reserved for donors or such where only they could get a refreshing beverage. Bastards.

Yeah - for a year or two the hard ass Idaho Higher Ed Board banned tailgating. Some (probably LDS) bitch spearheaded it.

I won't apologize for Scrub or Trip. They're both grown ass men and know what they're about. I will apologize for you feeling unwelcome by their actions, and I would recommend that you try not to get too defensive or fired up about posts from them. They don't always reflect the position of the board, but they both love UNLV so their ire is seldom trolled our way. The unkind last decade of UNLV athletics has thinned even the diehards around here. I would say if you can't ignore them, then just block them. They're far more apt to spar with people who fight back.
Never been to Vegas
Vegas is a TON more than just gambling. Restaurants, entertainment, nightlife, and great outdoors options all really close by. Everyone should experience the madness of the strip once at least--but don't waste money on tables if you don't gamble. See shows, music acts, go watch 44 games in a good sportsbook at once, eat at world class restaurants, and wander and people watch. But for most of us, one time on the strip is generally enough haha.

I think that OSU and Wazzoo INSTANTLY improve the football profile of this conference. Right now our media deal is 270 million a year for 6 years spread out over 11 schools (which amounts to 3.81 million per school roughly and 5.61 million a year to Boise St). I fully believe that having a west coast conference that plays higher end football will make a lot more money than that per year. Fox and NBC and CBS are going to want to fill those late timeslots and would pay more for an improved MWC. Though, I don't think we'll be getting even ACC money in our initial contract. I also think it lets us knock Boise state down their extra half share a year.

If I had my druthers, I would probably want to trim some of the fat of the conference and go with 12 teams leaving room for some expansion into other markets. Though, I don't know quite where to make those cuts right now. My heart says F Reno. My head also says F Reno. They're the dirtier version of Sparks and they know it. If only I could kick them out of the conference twice.

I also think there's a non-zero chance that the ACC implodes since FSU, Clemson, UNC, NCState, Miami, UVA, and VaTech have all explored options to leave and we can then Stanford and Cal will ahve to come crawling back and we can give them the SMU deal.

Are you going to pull your trailer behind your truck to Vegas? You dont need to haul your house around, we do have hotel rooms in Vegas.

Thanks bud. We have a couple of f-heads on my site. I'm kind of a fun-loving guy who talks a little smack on occasion, but mostly in fun. Guys that need to talk shit and insult others don't do much for me. Is your life so horrible that you need to go to go to a message board to vent it?

I look forward to this Pac-14/PacWest thing. Or as George Carlin (RIP) said it, F the F-ing F-ers. Not safe for kids or work.......

Funny how anyone would make jokes about campers, RV's, etc... My neighbor has an RV that cost around $250K.
I just can't see that, but to each his own. A lot of "snowbirds" up my way have them for winter down your way. I do like my camper and 1996 Chevy, but after my disastrous trip toward CSU (another thread?) have not driven it. My ex-ex GF had a Class A that she got on the cheap from her parents. It had a huge side mirror in the bedroom. I will leave the rest to you nasty Vegas boys imaginations. :)

Think woof woof.......

I have a camper that fits just nicely on my Chevy Silverado. Self contained too.

P.S. Why are you such a dick?
I flew to Asia with just a backpack and with my passport and some money for two weeks. Chills out with the locals and render my services a few hours a day and flew back home. Since clothes are made there, I just purchase what they have for sale and blend in.
Alright, that was my intentions when I go there. The local doctors didn't want me to do that. So local authority keep a watch on me.

I flew to Asia in the early 70's courtesy of Uncle Same. He paid for everything. Only problem was I regularly got shot at by a bunch of guys trying to kill me.

Thank you for your service, Sir! Happy Veteran's Day, Sir. Personally, I love reading your comments everyday. Keep it coming...

Same sentiments as the other guy. I was too young for that.

Love your Warthog - shit - what do we call it? Not logo. G-D dementia. I think it came along after your service. I used to make WW2 model airplanes as a kid, and hung them in my room. The P-47 Thunderbolt was one of my favorites. That and the P-38 Lightning. One of my many ex-GF's got my ME 109. She dug the swastika - hmm, maybe that explains a few things....

Oh that and that glue I would sniff in the basement. Imagine that! :)

I lived in Wa for a hot minute, though I never had time to make my way down to a UW/ WSU game. UW wasn’t good when I went there. I was too busy cheering for UNLV to care. No one could understand my enthusiasm when Caleb marched out vs reno and took command of that offense.

I personally believe WSU and OSU make more sense with the MW than any other conference. Moving down to FCS isn’t the solution. I like having most of our teams in the same two time zones. A pacific division and a mountain division makes sense to me. I’d rather go to Pullman than reno.

I had a nephew who went to school thee and I got to a couple of games. Really nice experience.
