Shout out to Tim Grgurich

Here is the quote if you don’t want to read the full article.
Hines adopted the game and kept the spirit of Johnson's competition, while implementing some of the teaching sensibilities he learned from longtime NBA assistant coach Tim Grgurich, whose dedication to basketball is universally revered within the sport.

"This is just like the camps [Grgurich] used to have," Hines said. "It's just with a remix."

OT: Death Penalty

I can’t think of a more deserving pair of turds

DEFENSE

Three weeks in and my take away is...

I think they are surrendering too many yards.

However.

I think this is more to do with overall talent vs scheme.

Until Odom gets his type guys they may give up more yards than you would like, but because of coaching, preparation and play calling they will be able to off set this to a degree.

Vs Vandy there were a few plays that stood out. A blind side blitz that almost lead to another turnover was called and executed to perfection. A reverse that was read and blown up and a few others.

Vs straight up run defense has been pretty stout. Has struggled with containment on QB scrambles though.

So basically, defense will struggle some to win every down because they aren't quite there yet to be dominant physically.

But schematically they will be sound and should continue to create turnovers and apply pressure through scheme.

I think there's a chance this defense will actually improve as the season wears on vs last season where it was very good out of the gate and either wore down or staff ran out of ideas.

Am I missing something?

Now I’m not saying UNLV is great. We may not even be a bowl team. Our lines have been subpar, the QB situation is dicey … we don’t really know what we have at this point.

But only a three point favorite at UTEP? UTEP is essentially a perennial twin to UNLV, historically awful. And they look like they are having a down year in which they don’t do anything well.

Yeah, it’s the road. But I really expected 7 or 8 point favorite in this game and quite honestly, I expect the Rebels to roll them.

prediction/assessment MBB

So Its been quiet here lately. I want to know from posters here what their expectation is for this upcoming Basketball season. The roster looks improved but do you trust the style of play and will we gel enough with the squad. I spoke to a coach on staff talking tactics and I think we have a good mindset but that was more on the defense side of the ball. As I have gotten back into basketball coaching myself I think the ball screen has had a heavy influence in hoops culture. How to use it, how to defend it and the over reliance on them as well. I watched this video of Uconn basketball and the breakdown of sets. I wish we would utilize some similar plays.

Uconn Finals Run analysis

This youtuber does some good film study. The zoom action he discusses could be more used by UNLV this year as well.

So anyway, what do YOU think of the upcoming season? will we make a tournament bid of some kind?

OT: Sandwiches

My favorite one so far grilled steak cubes and pickled cucumber, carrots, radish with butter on a toasted French banquet with a coke on ice.
When I was younger, peanut butter, jelly and banana sandwich with vanilla ice cream.
I had a London Broil and liverwurst with sprouts on a toasted wheat toast with mayonnaise.

Anything else should I try?
Oh yeah, one more...Lobster meat with butter on a garlic toast with Cole slaw.
