Silver State Battle of the Week

UNLV at Nevada: I don't know if you've noticed, but UNLV is fun and pretty good, too. I cannot say the same about Nevada. There's a strong argument to be made that the Wolf Pack are the worst team in the country. All you have to do is point to any statistic you want. Pick one randomly, and there's a strong chance that the Wolf Pack will rank 100th or worse nationally.

“ Not for the faint of heart”

WOW, Why even have any rules if this is the punishment for major infractions.

Boone DUI

😖🙄🤬...Saw several players at the game including DJ and others. Coach KK and Perry were also there. Everybody seemed like they were having a good time. Just wondering what they got into afterwards because they left the game a little early from observations?

MW coach salaries

So apparently Odom is not the highest paid coach in the MW?

It was advertised as such when he was hired, and I do not remember hearing about extensions or raises to Brennan and Bohl. So not sure what happened there.
At year 7 Odom's base salary tops out at 2.25 mil as it is currently structured.

OT: Beckham Doc on Netflix

I know there are some Futbol (soccer) fans here and this relates to other sports after watching the series. I want to know what others thought of the massive shit that David Beckham dealt with after his red card in the World Cup? He got abused by more than any American athlete would have that I can recall. Watching this (only two episodes in) I just can't imagine the mental stress that comes with dealing with all this BS.

For others not in the "know" he got a red card for swinging his foot on the ground to cleat a guy who just laid a nasty tackle on him. The call was a bit harsh but the team went on to penalties and lose there. Not sure how that is all his fault but his coach threw him under the bus in public for that match and the public sent death threats to him for months after this happened. Man, what a country to play sports in.

I figured the board was pretty quiet so I wanted to put something out there to mix things up.

Small world

I'm linking this article because I don't recall if it had been posted before.

The small world part is this - I've worked with a guy for several years, didn't see him much over those years, but he had a position change and now I see him daily. We constantly shoot the sht about sports, he's a good dude. I had no clue who he was other than his first name.

Long story short - no, it's not Justin Burns' dad ... but this guy was the one who told me what happened to Justin. And then we get to talking about local sports, as we talked, we knew alot of the same names and when I asked his last name, bells went off because his son was a hell of a high school player many years ago. He learned my last name and freaked out (in a good way), not because of me myself, but just the last name. Anyway, It never panned out for his kid, you know how it goes, poor decisions, poor choice of circle, easily steered down paths by friends, etc. Something that has occurred more times than not with LV talent. But I'll be damned if I didn't learn a ton about the local scene from this guy, about players, AAU, from the past, from currently (he's still locked in, just not as much as previously). Making it even more strange is our paths crossed many, many times in the past without a word said (that either of us recall) and these were in smallish environments. I mean many of them, perhaps five or six dozen times or more.

We're now 12th in the NCAA in rushing yards per game...Brennan Marion is getting it done

We had the 85th ranked rushing offense in 2022, we're now 12th ranked....that's a helluva an improvement! Should be fun going up again the 133rd ranked defense (out of 133 teams) in 2 weeks.

I did a deep dive into the Go-Go Offense before the season and a refresher recently, and I think we've only seen a small sample of what the offense can do. It's not unlike the offense that Urban Meyer came up with as it uses an option-type look, with counters and misdirection, and with a spread out passing game.

The idea with the passing game is to have too many "options" in the backfield that forces teams to bring a safety or two up to better defend the run options more and that will open up the pass over the top...which is something we've been trying to do quite a bit this season, with mixed success.

Watching AFA dismantle SDSU with the option and then throw over the top for those TDs....I think that's kinda the basic same idea that the Go-Go Offense is designed to do, but not as much dedication to a triple option look, and with a bit more passing than what AFA does.

Rankings: 10/02/2023 after Hawaii W

Even though we just beat Vandy, CBS sports still has us behind them. Vandy at 81, UNLV at 93, just ahead of ASU. They have UNR as last in the country at 133.
