Ricky White love

Forde also hyped him during the game for his punt block effort.

I think Ricky has mid round draft potential. His ability on special teams and willingness to do it it is going to be looked really favorably by an NFL GM.

I would say third round but there are always those 6'4 220lb SEC freaks of nature that the production is mediocre but the measurable (is that a word even) get them elevated higher than production would dictate.

There is a difference

Whenever there is a tie game each team can look back on a dozen or more plays that would have tipped the regulation score in their favor. These are INTERNAL issues. Both Syracuse and the Rebels had them. A fumble, missed interception, dropped pass, bad coaching decision. Each one of these could have swayed the game. But in this game there were several EXTERNAL issues (15 yard drive extending or drive killing penalties). I read a number of posters who are trying to downplay the EXTERNAL factors by saying all we needed to do was complete one internal play or extinguish one internal mistake. But either team could say this. Just UNLV had multiple questionable calls that essentially stacked the deck against them. Could we have overcome these injustices with one or two timely plays? Yes. But that doesn't take away the fact that the REFS jobbed us big time on a huge stage.

Not that it matters but even broadcast and booth analysts were like, yeah that's not a great call.

i dont get it when people say well we should of been better in other areas or done this or doen that better. Those penalties on 3rd down especially that one changed the game. The pass interference, roughing the passer and face mask was all a no call. U dont call even one of those 3 and we win. Had Cuse fans telling me they got a lot of calls. Unfortunately i was sitting right in the center of Cuse central. Monster Jam and i did not enjoy our experience even with a win. Had some drunk yelling non stop. spitting while doing it. Had his own fans telling him to calm down. People thru stuff at him.

I get it. I think what people are saying is, if we come up with those two INTs the game is over and the referees never get the opportunity to make those calls. Doesn't excuse how bad those calls were or their impact on the game.

Think of it like boxing. You knock a guy out you take the possibility of a bad decision away from the judges.

Monster Jam posted pic of the guy. Just from that picture I can tell exactly what you probably had to deal with.

There's always 'that guy' at games. And he definitely looks like 'that' guy. It's like they are created in a lab. They always look like that.

I think what's more obvious is last year wasn't just a fluke vs semi weak schedule. We just went 4-1 in first 5 vs 3 P4 schools, lost 1 that could be competing in ACC title game, and dominated the next best team in the conference... we have an incredibly tough front end schedule and should be at worse 6-2 entering the back end...
Could realistically be 5-3 entering the last 4. Have to split one between ore st and Boise to get to 6-2.

First thing first is taking care of a bad USU team.

Yeah that was a BS call. Contrast that to the no call in 2018 on the USC hit (link below, scroll down to see the hit) on Gardner Minshew. No targeting, no roughing. Cost us the game.

Would have been 4th and 20.

I just don't know how you throw that flag. Crying about refs is pointless but son of a.....that was awful.

I typically disagree when people say you can't call a penalty in 'that' situation.

If it's a penalty it's a penalty regardless of when it is in the game.

However that wasn't a penalty and you better damn well be sure it was if you throw that flag.

I would have had no issue if he threw it thinking helmet to helmet because it can be overturned. But roughing thr passer. You can't call that on that play.

The ghost face mask as well. Have yet to see angle showing one.

I'm still pissed.

Day after….

I think you hit some of the things we need to keep in mind when analyzing. It's a tough loss, but there were good things to take from it--most notably things which are actionable.

* We have ground to stand on with some of the calls in the game, but we had several big calls that hurt us which were simply lack of discipline in front of a flag happy ACC crew.

* Cuse came out with a dink and dunk philosophy with an accurate QB on offense. This kept them in a positive down and distances and let them mix up route trees and let the run be effective enough that you had to honor it. We also ran a TON of zone blitz packages and not only did they fail. to get pressure, but they also left big holes for routes to fill in. In addition we were trying to show a lot of base package and trying to fall into some match-up stuff, but we were asking JW7 to come from the opposite side of the formation and try to cover Gadsden for way too long. Those long corner (they're probably actually in book as posts since they were coming all the way across the formation) only work with a ton of time for the QB. Which in general, the Orange had. I would have liked to see us run a little more man and a little more cover zero looks.

* I don't know if any DL people were watching us close, but the number of times we tried to spin move into a double team and ended up with our DL facing the play side while trying to backpedal a pass rush was ridiculous. I'm sure they were tired, but it happened all night.

* Unfortunately, the GoGo's philosophy doesn't lend itself to complimentary football when the other team has a 2:1 TOP and plays from scrimmage advantage. Our legs were gone on defense in the 4th quarter. Especially when you're asking your front to pass rush and backfield to cover for 65+ snaps a game. We snapped the ball early on every drive--even the last one.

* Getting the ball at the 35 with 27 seconds and 3 TOs and taking a knee is super cowardly under normal circumstances, but with our defense all on oxygen just giving them an extra 5 minutes of rest trying to get a field goal seems like the right call. We never would have made that call last year, so I'm not sure why we did here--but coaches are human and can make mistakes.

* Cuse was ready for the triple option, and took it away pretty early. Their DL did a really nice job of keeping their gap integrity and stayed really fresh with the TOP discrepancy. However, if you watch the tape, Syracuse is constantly 8 in the box with a cover 2 or cover 3 back end...stop the run, stop the long throws. So I undertsand that some of your playcalling is dictated on what they're showing, but sometimes you just have to strong on strong and see if you can win. I think that idea is part of why Marion struggles in the red zone this year. He just gets too cute or too vanilla.

* We absolutely can't start down 14-0 over and over again and expect to beat good teams. We can't start down 14 AND then give up 17 unanswered from the last drive of the first half to the third quarter.

I mean....I don't know. You still get a step to the QB. He didn't hit him in the head. He didn't wrap him up and drive him to the ground. I'm not sure what he's supposed to do there.

We sat next to these guys, and the guy holding the flag was THE most obnoxious guy you'll ever see at a game. Spit on everyone within a 3 seat radius of him. His own Syracuse fan base couldn't stand him. Thanks to these jackasses, this was the most painful game I've ever witnessed.

Where are their women? Hiding in shame probably.

I have a little photo album from when I had a spot in WSU's RV lot - right across the street from the stadium. Win or lose, always full and a huge party scene for two days. My album has nothing but pictures of me and hot Coug chicks and the occasional opposing female fans. Fun times.........

PAC….terrible leadership!

Season tickets have sunk to new lows. This article pretty much shows their announced attendance numbers versus bodies walking through the turnstile. It looks like they add about 8000 to their announced attendance versus the actual. Even doing that they are just over 50% of filling the stadium. San Diego fans are not stupid. They know garbage when they see it and they prefer not to see it.

San Diego fans are also not overly passionate in general. Padres get good support but Chargers were meh at best.

PAC….terrible leadership!

I dont think think people understand fully how the CFP G5 spot will work because it hasnt been that way before... I see alot of posts about us being eliminated from contention last night after a close loss to Syracuse which now probably finds itself in the top 25. If we can still win the MWC, our schedule was good enough to rank us higher in the playoff rankings than the other G5 programs. We still have a top 10 SOS. Boise is in the same boat. They need to go through us to get to the CFP as well. In their new conference, they'll have the same issue, but either way, I don't think 1 loss or 2 losses should be viewed as a season ender because that's not how the CFP rankings work.

Correct.

That's my point about strength of schedule and why conference strength matters. You have margin for error in a better conference. CUSA teams don't have that. MAC teams don't have that.

Nothing changed for UNLV last night. Sucks, but MWC title still in play, CFP still in play.

I mean I get wanting to create a conference that results in better media deal and revenue. I kinda understand the idea of having the best G6 conference where one loss doesn't eliminate you from CFP discussion. What I don't get is the P5 delusion in football. Those four are not going to give up a guaranteed spot in the CFP that eliminates an at large bid...

There's always 'that' guy. Always.

The loud obnoxious 'tough guy'

Schnockered on 8 Ultras and 10 jello shots.

Everything 'sucks'. Our QB sucks your QB sucks, the refs suck, the play calling sucks, this stadium sucks, the bathrooms suck, coaches suck,. Super aggressive cheering in people's faces.

PAC….terrible leadership!

I don't get it either. Woohoo they have the PAC logo. Except they are in the same G conference group as we still are.

The loss sucks but putting things into perspective…

-Unlv football has been on a meteoric rise. We are 2-1 vs p4 teams and the lone loss was in OT. In two short years, we’ve shown we belong at the P4 level.

- National media has been talking a lot about unlv the last two weeks. Lots of eyeballs on unlv, aside from Utah Tech game, we’ve been on national tv for every game.

- there’s some guys on unlv that WILL play on Sundays.

- CBO’s staff got a lot of attention this year, especially last night. It will be interesting to see what happens down the road, they are young coordinators and that alone will appeal to other schools.

- Recruiting should be much easier now that some barriers have been blown up and the fact unlv has a winning culture now. The loss sucks, it hurts but in years past it would’ve just been another game. CBO changed the mentality and culture here. Recruits will notice that immediately and want to be part of it.

- 31.5k is a good showing for Friday night. We need to get to 40k to get the p4’s attention. The average attendance for p4 is something like 41k. So we’re close but we need to be better on attendance. Certainly better than where we were under Sanchez and Arroyo with 15-18k diehards, sometimes less than that.

We all know Marion will get some looks. Scherer will be tied to Odom's hip until he gets a HC gig.
