Dayton

Forgot about the game. Apathy has taken complete hold of the program. Checked the box score and it appears Whaley is still out. Only hope is the team goes into beast mode when Whaley comes back and having Bear on the court as well. Although Cherry’s production has seemed o take a significant drop off. Not sure what that’s about, I haven’t been watching.

Washington State loses HC

Your points are good.

This just goes to my earlier belief and assertion that Oregon State and Washington State are MWC-caliber without the P5 label.

They will become the Wyoming (with a little easier travel) and UTEP of their new conference.

Wazzu and Oregon State are the two schools affected the most (negatively) by conference realignment since the SWC fell apart and SMU, TCU, Rice and Houston were left behind.

With a quarter billion in debt, and rising; that program is in an almost impossible hole to climb out of. Pullman has fewer people than Pahrump. They're like everyone else in the G5, just trying to hold it together until they get a P4 invite. Take a ticket and get behind us.

It's all G5....

Schedule up every year. UNLV is quickly becoming a national brand in CFB and will be attractive to package for tv in noncon games. Mullen will also add to the appeal. Play a tough but winnable schedule and dominate the MWC. That’s a formula for CFP contention every year depending upon our noncon performance. I agree MWC should be temporary for UNLV. Shoot for Big12 and style for PAC if we don’t get an invite. PAC will take UNLV so long as we stay competitive.

Marion to Sac State?

Marion is a good OC with a proven offense. Sure it wasn't perfect, but it was good more than it was bad. He was a finalist for corrdinator of the year.

Not sure his interest or his interpersonal relationships. Him being a hard ass on the sidelines doesn't mean much to me. Has anyone here ever played football, lol. Some coaches are firey.

I get the vibe that he isn't making a ton of friends. Not sure if that is true or not. WIth all of his experience at different places, you'd think that he could be networking quite well and building up a rolodex. But if he not good at making friends, then maybe not.

Now the whole Sluka thing was a red flag and could have been a big mistake on Marion's side.

We all knew that Marion was gone, even before Odom left. I think leaving before the bowl game for a HC job isn't so bad. It is basically the standard. If it were for a coordinator job that is a little more punk ass.
From my perspective, It's hard to tell whether he left the team early either because he was mad that he didn't get the HC job here or the Sacramento State came up at the same time and he had to devote time for that. To me it makes a difference on how you leave your last job.

Washington State loses HC

WSU has been gutted the last 2 weeks. It's going to be tough sledding for them. They need a new coach right away to hope to retain what they have left. They've already lost their star QB.
And, they have a bowl game in 9 days. The Holiday Bowl will be no holiday for them. No HC, no OC, no DC, Mateer gone. A disaster.

At least we have our senior leadership.

Time to follow the Football Programs Lead

The football program has shown both the ability to attract and pay high profile coaches to get to respectability, I think it is about time for the basketball program to begin to do the same. Quit with first time coaches and let's get someone in here who will spark some interest in the program. It's time to revive this program. It's been almost 35 years....enough is enough!!!
Oh it's well past time for that.

I would think zero if he is the one who told Sluka he had $100K coming his way.
Did you see the follow up post? I get that there is zero chance…just odd both are going to end up lower than they wanted. Last year Marion was almost HC at UTEP and now he is going to Sac state. Sluka thought he would get P4 looks and now is at best mid-tier MAC if he wants to play and will not get paid anywhere near what he thought he could extort from UNLV.

It's all G5....

Are you guys sure about sos meaning that much? The last few years (not this year), Liberty played and beat NO ONE of significance yet were highly ranked and would have made the 12-team playoffs. I don't think SOS plays as big a part as some might think. I don't recall if it was here at Rebel net or elsewhere, but someone put up a spreadsheet of the rankings and it's various criteria, and they appeared a lot more biased toward SOR (strength of record) and showed that SOS had little influence in those rankings.
I agree it doesn't now though I think change is coming with that after this season. All it takes is Alabama to miss the CFP over SMU who played no one and change will come in like the wind.
