Washington State loses HC

My heart really goes out to them. I can't imagine what it's been like watching your conference get decimated and all the uncertainty surrounding your program that comes with it.
Nah, screw them and their stupid commissioner, lol. Being pretentious and sticking your nose up at MWC schools while you tired to single handedly blow up their conference in your favor is coming home to roost. If they had just joined up with the MWC wed be as close to the P4s and you can get. Instead they will be playing in a muddied version of the MWC with a new label and are about to experience the pain of giving Boise competitive advantages financially.

Wow our salary is 30% higher than WSU who would have thought that even a year ago? Their attendance is 10% lower than ours this year with that huge deficit. How did that commissioner not beg us to come to their conference? SDSU will fit in well with that brain trust.
Crazy how quickly that program is falling apart. Pac fans were telling me 2 years ago that we'd never beat OSU or WSU. Now I can't imagine either of those teams beating us.

THIS COULD BE GOOD..

This is a total win-win. He could be pumping up a friend's salary. But, If it's genuine and we land this beast, FFS!
I read that Appalachian State was unable to match our salary offer. Not sure of the $$ just that it is lucrative. Not that they are a powerhouse but it is still unusual to actually read the words "they were unable to match UNLV's offer" in any sentence much less for an assistant coach. Harper is rising on my Christmas list.

NIU TO MWC

I can't see how adding any of these 4 teams wouldn't hurt the bottom line.

They are tiny, tiny markets.

Good at football at the FCS level, but really hard to see how they handle the jump. Most often there are major growing pains, and those are often at the lowest of the low in terms of FBS level.

Extrapolating both of those teams viewership on the one time they made it to ESPN, a heavily watched channel does no say much. What are their streaming numbers, since I imagine that is how most of their games are broadcast? We can't get those, but I bet the media partners can.

Then it costs each team an extra 5 mil a piece to make the jump. Could they indpendently afford that? Or will the MW have to dip into their funds that has already been promised to the existing members to do so?

All just to expand the conference beyond the minimum for what? adding extra conference games and diluting our overall SOS? ALl while reducing payouts for all exisiting members?

The addition of NIU kinda sucks, and having one travel partner seems to be a must. So I get that.
Working on getting the numbers together from published data. Started a spreadsheet if anyone wants to take a look specifically between MW/PAC/potential members. Its a list I am still updating as I find more data, so its not quite complete. I don’t expect to get it to a done state, but I will try.

The largest limiter to the data I have is companies like CBS don't really share their numbers externally. Though, having seen those dashboards personally, I can tell you the divide between MW and Pac isn't significant.

We're playing in the factor of tens of thousands to hundred of thousands. Where as big schools talk in factors of hundreds of thousands to millions. There is a clear divide between the SEC/ Big vs the ACC/Big12. That jump exists between MW/Pac and AAC/MAC/Sunbelt/CUSA.

Wazzu will fill the position but, with all their budget cuts in the athletic department they will be making a budget hire. Dickert was making $2.7 million from what I've read. I suspect the new coach will be closer to $2 million.

It's all G5....

Schedule up every year. UNLV is quickly becoming a national brand in CFB and will be attractive to package for tv in noncon games. Mullen will also add to the appeal. Play a tough but winnable schedule and dominate the MWC. That’s a formula for CFP contention every year depending upon our noncon performance. I agree MWC should be temporary for UNLV. Shoot for Big12 and style for PAC if we don’t get an invite. PAC will take UNLV so long as we stay competitive.
I agree as others have said be Gonzaga of football. Sometimes easier said than done because you don't get the top top teams to play now that we are better. Michigan doesn't have a lot to gain by beating us but a lot to lose by losing to us. We aren't that guaranteed W any more. You can probably get the ASU, ISU and Vandy's of the world but not OSU, Michigan, Georgia etc.

NIU TO MWC

19k would be 2600 more than what we averaged just 5 years ago. I get it, different era. But we aren't that far away from that number.
I wouldn't have wanted to add us 5 years ago either. If we aren't adding a team that contributes to the bottom line, and I don't see any way that happens here, then I don't get the point of adding teams just to add them.

**** them. They didn't want us in the original four. They tried to **** over the MWC. Now they don't want to pay our scheduling agreement withdrawal fees. Excuse me if I don't shed a tear.

Wazzu and Oregon State are the two schools affected the most (negatively) by conference realignment since the SWC fell apart and SMU, TCU, Rice and Houston were left behind.

Dayton

Forgot about the game. Apathy has taken complete hold of the program. Checked the box score and it appears Whaley is still out. Only hope is the team goes into beast mode when Whaley comes back and having Bear on the court as well. Although Cherry’s production has seemed o take a significant drop off. Not sure what that’s about, I haven’t been watching.

Your points are good.

This just goes to my earlier belief and assertion that Oregon State and Washington State are MWC-caliber without the P5 label.

They will become the Wyoming (with a little easier travel) and UTEP of their new conference.

With a quarter billion in debt, and rising; that program is in an almost impossible hole to climb out of. Pullman has fewer people than Pahrump. They're like everyone else in the G5, just trying to hold it together until they get a P4 invite. Take a ticket and get behind us.

Marion to Sac State?

Marion is a good OC with a proven offense. Sure it wasn't perfect, but it was good more than it was bad. He was a finalist for corrdinator of the year.

Not sure his interest or his interpersonal relationships. Him being a hard ass on the sidelines doesn't mean much to me. Has anyone here ever played football, lol. Some coaches are firey.

I get the vibe that he isn't making a ton of friends. Not sure if that is true or not. WIth all of his experience at different places, you'd think that he could be networking quite well and building up a rolodex. But if he not good at making friends, then maybe not.

Now the whole Sluka thing was a red flag and could have been a big mistake on Marion's side.

We all knew that Marion was gone, even before Odom left. I think leaving before the bowl game for a HC job isn't so bad. It is basically the standard. If it were for a coordinator job that is a little more punk ass.
From my perspective, It's hard to tell whether he left the team early either because he was mad that he didn't get the HC job here or the Sacramento State came up at the same time and he had to devote time for that. To me it makes a difference on how you leave your last job.
