Marion to Sac State?

Marion doesn’t interview well from what I understand. It’ll be interesting to see what his staff looks like if he does get the job in Sacramento.
Truth. I heard he doesn't come off as humble. It's more of a 'My sh*t don't stink' vibe. This won't help him when interviewing his possible replacements. Even with his connections. There's something to be said about riding another coaches coat-tails.

He can slow growth there.
I am just a little pissed because he said that he will be on the sideline for the LA Bowl. Now he is not. One day before the game. Cal got Harsin and Rolovich scheming against UNLV WR Coach turn an interim coach. We need Coach Mullen to step in.

He hasn’t even been in town or with the Rebs. Nobody was expecting him for the bowl game. If he bailed, it wasn’t suddenly.

I'd highly doubt new members of the staff are scheming and providing input for a game scheme with players they didn't recruit on less than a week of prep time to implement... Bowls are handled by the previous staff and in the case of replacements, it usually junior coordinators like the position coaches that get the shot to run the team. So it's possible they might give a few plays here or there, but again, just like Mullen not being on the sideline, it's a really good way to lose credibility by taking credit for the accomplishment of the previous staff...

Mullen stepping in would be less than useless because he doesn't know any of the play book. Let the staff that stuck around run it the best they can!

Marion brought two years of the best offense we’ve had in decades. He might have a vibe that was negative but this is the era of hired guns, players and coaches alike. The pendulum has gone too far but it is what it is. If he moved on to sac state in a less than ideal way, I’ll still take the two years of what he helped deliver. We’ll build on it.

Its a great chance for Mullen to evaluate the current roster live and in person. I imagine he is also checking on the staff for who he wants to keep on board. My practical wishlist is Fertitta, Del, Longshore, Vice, and Hunkie Cooper. Don't know if we have a shot to keep Vice, but its worth a try. This would be Longshore's third UNLV coach. I imagine he's comfortable here.

Btw, I know it wouldn’t happen but they deserve each other. It will be more enjoyable watching Sluka throw INTs for a bottom tier MAC team.

Just don’t see that Marion has the chops to make it as a head coach, not with his attitude. Likes most of the offense he brought to UNLV and the attention it received (over sold imo) but honestly I’m glad he’s gone. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Odom and others were just putting up with him.

I think he'd end up like Petrino. Genius designer, but a scandal would cut his time in the limelight short.

Sure, but he said in a post intro presser that he won't be on the field because he'd be wanting to high five guys and be involved. I'm not saying they aren't watching, but they aren't actively participating in preparations and frankly, they shouldn't. They need to be recruiting and building a staff. Let the interim handle the game, let the former staff handle play calling. And let the current players wanting to stay or show new staff what they can do show off their abilities.

Definitely a boom or bust hire. Betting on bust, but never know.

I didn’t mention him being on the field, but he could and he should be there, even if its in a booth or suite. I agree, let Del and staff do what they’ve been doing all year long.

I watched the Memphis WV game last night and Rich Rod was at the game. He was in the stands watching and stopped in the booth in the 2nd Qt to chat with the commentators. It was an ESPN game so imagine it may be the same
That’s exactly what it should be.

Dont upstage the game, the players, the current coaches.

I get leaving for HC job or missing practice for an interview but what kind of OC just leaves the team? That’s crap, what are the odds Sluka transfers to Sac State for a bag of peanuts.
I would think zero if he is the one who told Sluka he had $100K coming his way.

Did you see the follow up post? I get that there is zero chance…just odd both are going to end up lower than they wanted. Last year Marion was almost HC at UTEP and now he is going to Sac state. Sluka thought he would get P4 looks and now is at best mid-tier MAC if he wants to play and will not get paid anywhere near what he thought he could extort from UNLV.
