Of the 40 completions he had only 10 that were 10 yards or more. Of the 10 only 4 were over 15 yards. He was not sitting in the pocket chewing us up, he was chewing us up with 5-9 yard passes within 2-3 seconds of getting the ball.

If anything, our guys were playing too much off the receivers for fear they’d blow by.
That was exactly my take-away. Too often only 4 (sometimes 3) down linemen and corners playing 7 yards off. McCord was not rushed and simply taking what was being given.

I get not giving up the big play, but it was death by a thousand cuts for our defense. I felt the scheme let us down. Waaaaaayyyyy too many 3rd down conversions, and many of those with 6+ yards to go. Not aggressive enough in the approach.

Jeanty is a whole other issue. Few slow him much. I can see him breaking 200 yards against us.
Our best chance of keeping Jeanty even remotely in check is controlling the possession. We need to put together some of those long scoring drives that eat up 8-9 minutes of game clock. Like the Syracuse game though, it could be a race to 40 or 50 to win.

Any tailgating pictures?

Hmm. these don't involve food unless you like ants, but as a youth my Dad and I accidently torched a RR bridge adjacent to our land. $250K in damages. I used to pour gas on these big anthills along the same tracks and light them on fire. Those things ran deep. Also set myself on fire once burning ants. Hint - don't pour more gas on a fire you think has gone out but hasn't.

Good advice about the gasoline. Gonna make a note of that.

Also one should not add fresh coals to the rotisserie coals that one thought were burned out in the back of a trailer, and then drive on the freeway. I speak from experience.

It's still referred to as black Saturday nearly 20 years later.

Pig was almost done. We were gonna show off for the Hawaii game and finish the last hour or two at the tailgate.

An emergency phone call to my wife to pick up 15lbs of carne asada had to be made.

Was not a great day.

Any tailgating pictures?

There was the infamous rotisserie pig trailer fire incident on Boulder Highway 15 years ago. There were flames, a fire truck, fire retardant foam, melted beer cooler and an apartment complex security guard involved.

I don't like to talk about though. 🙂

So yeah… this site is messed up. Bull didn’t write that comment Oneepstein did.

It was an issue!

You have to pressure a QB like McCord or you he will kill you!
We could neither sack him or even move him off his spot on Friday night, pass rush pressure was lacking!

Syracuse ticket sales

I could be wrong here but I feel like you'd get 3-5k more fans in if they opened up more of the upper sections at lower prices. A lot of people are interested but don't have it in their budget to spend 60-100 per ticket. I get it that you'd rather fill the lower bowl, but IMO, once you get people to their 1st game, it's easier to get them back regularly. I know for me, I was worried about parking, traffic, etc the 1st time. Now that I've done it multiple times, its no big deal

Season tix are pretty damn cheap for college football.

Individual tix prices could be a little better.

I can't believe the WCC can offer their remaining teams much $$ without Gonzaga being in the mix. Additionally they are looking at being a one bid league. Perhaps we could add two of them ( Non football). St. Mary's and USF could boost the MWC to a two bid league and give teams an extra chance. Or combine the Conferences for a 16 team basketball league and an 8 team football league.

Agree. He read us quickly and responded quickly.

if it’s a freshman/sophomore quarterback, UNLV crushes Cuse. There are probably 75 other QBs starting in the country that would have lost that game against UNLV.

I’m not saying he’s an NFL HOF guy or anything. But his IQ/experience was high level.
Yes he has high IQ but we still could have pressured him, hit him or at least got him off his comfortable spot?

We didn’t and it looked like 7 on 7 out there most of the evening for him!

I don’t suspect anyone left on our schedule will have that kind of success throwing the ball like Syracuse did. Our pass rush is still an issue, as we all saw Friday night.

But what team left on our schedule has a McCord at the QB spot? I did not think Syracuse could be that effective but the lack of pass rush was exposed big time and now will teams be able to hammer that weakness, we’ll see.

The question is, which QB left on the schedule can expose us, Schrager, Madsen, Petras, Brown, Lewis or McCoy?

I don’t think any of the names above are the threat that McCord was!
Not passing, but Jeanty is going to be just as big of problem. I don't think we beat Boise because of him.

UNLV just has to tread water for a couple of years. With SDSU, Boise and USU gone, UNLV is virtually guaranteed a top 3 spot in conference every single year with UNM and UNR. Fresno and CSU are two programs that pop up every 5 years or so to make an impact in conference and they’re gone.

Now if we can escape those pesky 40 point losses to AFA, UNLV basketball will be back on the map.

Sigh.

The future is bright.
I hope we don’t schedule Southern and LMU again because we can’t hang with them at home. The home court advantage is as strong as ever.

Attendance at an ACC game

Ive been to a lot of Stanford games, some where the stadium is sold out and others that look a lot like that picture. I know it was close to 100 degrees in Palo Alto on Saturday, it gets friggin hot in that stadium. The last game I went to a game there it was a very hot day and more people were watching from the shade in the concourse me included than were sitting in their seats. I dont doubt Stanford sold what they say they did but know from past experience there predictably were a lot of no shows on a scorching hot day as well as people that were there watching from somewhere other than their seats.

Heard he transferred from Ohia St..

That guy is solid. Hope he gets drafted. I got no problems with Cuse.

I don’t think the pass rush was as much an issue as them having a really good qb who was great at recognizing and getting the ball out quick when needed.
