Explaining the NIL is like explaining compound interest. Once you understand it you realize your advantages and hopelessness. Being outside the P4 is hopeless. Having hope that we get in the Big 12 is all I got.
True that P4 would be an answer. But the exception breaks the rule. Gonzaga has a reported $ 9 mil NIL made from several benefactors across the country. $ 9 mil will get you a team that can excel on a national basis. Every G 5 needs one or several sugar daddies or they are screwed as far as National competition goes. But they can win their conference with much less. For me, making the Dance and winning one game is like a sweet 16 used to be.

From what i understand DJ got around 3 million???!! I mean how is this sustainable? These boosters and millionaires are throwing away millions every year and most with very little return!! The gap is only going to widen for the haves and haves nots.

Just split CBB into 2 leagues. There is no more David and Goliath ! There is no chance that any team outside the TOP NIL money to compete. The rest of DIV 1 are basically playing against border line NBA level talent players at multiple positions against most of P4 teams. Much easier to dominate at CBB only 5-7 players u got to pay.

Then when u find a diamond in the ruff of develop someone they are gone with NOTHING IN RETURN. Maybe have the NIL contracts last 2 years?? Some kind of $ going back to the team that got poached?? IF CBB want to survive they need to do something.
There are about 900 Billionaires and 7000 worth $ 300 million or more. Over the years Warren buffet has averaged a 20% return on his money. ( $ 200 million annually for a billionaire ) Anything close to that return and each of these people can personally finance the entire NIL for their favorite team. We are nowhere near the end for the top 20-30 teams.

A couple of things can stop or slow it. Contracts - Programs need to insist on two or three year contracts - like a coach - and if the entire contract is not fulfilled all or a portion of the NIL funds would be refunded to the benefactor. Collective Bargaining - this would allow teams to act like the NFL - NBA and establish caps on income. Portal - change the portal rules to once a career. Saturation - eventually the mega wealthy will tire of paying for their team to win and will back off.

i would be willing to bet that TOP P4 schools bench has more $ than 99% of the starters at others school. IMO i think Pastner will do better than CKK but worse then CDR. Too much to overcome. If we hired Wade he would of attracted bigger NIL money . UNLV has more to work with than most of NON-P4 schools. The others are doomed. Once the facts come to light the NIL money will drop even more for the NON-P4 teams and even some of them that you throw millions at a player only to get bounced in the first round or 2 if your lucky or not even make it they will come HOPEFULLY to the realization they cant and wont make a difference.
you keep bringing up Wade but where was the extra 10m we would have had to come up with just to match his deal let alone what they came up with for nil.

It’s not an apples to apples comparison here?
There was no NIL back then and it was about recruiting more than it is now. I think Josh would have compared favorably with Rice in recruiting.

But now it’s just about the money and if that is right you get the player. Now he may leave at the end of the year for even more elsewhere but it’s all about your NIL dollars now and much less about the coach’s charisma or even character!

Assuming Hawaii gets done..Then what?

Nah I just care about UNLV more than I care about my pride

This is 100% confirmed.

Trash Josh Pastner one tweet, photo with him the next.

Call for Harper to resign one minute, praise him for landing Dan Mullen the next.

Have you ever tried actually letting things play out..

It would reduce the number of miles you have to pedal your bike backwards.

As for PAC.

Yes everyone pretty much acknowledges it will be better.
Yes everyone realizes their media deal will be better.

The question remains how much better. And was shelling out 17 million in exit fees worth it. If the end result is being in the PAC in 5 years anyway what's the damn difference. It could take that long just to recoup the exit fees depending on what the PAC media deal comes in at.

Once we have those numbers, by all means go off.

Toppin at Texas Tech just got $4MM for next year. For one player. At Texas Tech. Almost our entire tv contract money for a year. To one player. Good luck JP.

Mikey Williams

IMHO, don't take too much stock into his stats last year at UCF. It was a year for him to get back on the court and back into playing shape.
Sorry, I'm from the school you are what you have put on tape last. I'm not saying he doesn't have room for growth, but he also was getting fair minutes for 3 months and still was pretty inconsistent once he was getting starter minutes. I hope I'm wrong--unless he goes someplace else, then I hope I'm right haha.

Houston And Kelvin Sampson

Teddy Valentine. It was his first FF in 1991. Who knows, maybe this was his last. He pissed off the powers with that call.

I remember some refs. Moose Stubing
was a fixture in the 2000s, former Angel coach. I don’t remember him as being good or bad, but he was fun to mess with because he’d mess back with you and have a laugh, good natured kind of way. Fat and bald, smiled a lot. And sweat a lot.

Of course, Dave Hall.

Then there’s Teddy Valentine.

And Norm Borucki. Tark hated him. UNLV typically got screwed with him. We didn’t lose the games, normally, it was during our peak. But he was the one that fkd up the at Oklahoma game with Gary Graham’s three pointer. Tark hated him even before that game.

Refs are rarely remembered for being good.
1991 should have been his last.

Dave Hall, my God there was never a ref I hated more than that complete stiff.

Pape

Nobody is denying the potential but when cottrell is taking your minutes in the conference tourney…yikes.

Of course CKK never really developed anyone on the roster during his tenure. Just never worked out here, Pape probably needed new scenery/fresh start and UNLV already filled the 5 slot.
Maybe KK had no idea what he was doing and Pape should have gotten those minutes instead.

Assuming Hawaii gets done..Then what?

May I ask how you’re calculating the Pac and Mw valuation?
The same way everyone else is.

The numbers that get floated for each respective conference is 4-5 million for the new MW. Inflation has helps keep the number a little higher than it used to be, but losing the schools we lost really hurts.

For the new PAC the number that's floated around is 10 million dollars.

If those are the numbers, its a bad choice to stay taking into account:
1. worse travel costs in the new MW
2. less NCAA tournament revenue in the new MW
3. worse matchups, harder to sell tickets, in the new MW.

Not to mention worse access to the NCAAT and the CFP in the new conference.

Pape

Not sure if irony or not, but if he was a wasted schollie, then what about Cottrell, Whiting, Whaley, Evans, Bannarbie all of whom were less productive than Pape last year--hell, if output is the metric than Hicks was also a disappointment for his productivity given his minutes. Kruger had a lot of whiffs if Pape was a waste.

If this is just raging against the transfer portal, then I would say go ahead and scream out your anger and then sort of accept that's the way the world works in college hoops now--transferring will be just as common if not more so than retention.
In truth is, it was a waste of the entire team this last season! I am not the only one that feels that way considering how few people went to their games. This was the first year in a long time that I didn't go to a single game!
