Official Game Thread Pastner Presser

Style of Play:

* Up tempo, high hustle 'commitment to energy"

Goals for the team:

* Unclear, said 'win and compete for championships, make the tournament' but that sounded more like program goals not next years from context. Did say We want to win now, and got a small round of applause for it.

Recruiting

* Only tangentially mentioned 'Recruiting at a high level'

These are always everyone saying what they think you want to hear. I like the talk of energy, hustle, and intensity--because I don't think that has been the product under Kevin Kruger. Understands the history and the fracture with the players it seem like, said that and community outreach were some of his primary goals. Not a lot of specifics, but I didn't really expect it. Also, I had thought that there would be a press pit Q&A, but it sounds like it's all individual media interviews.
I'd be the worst press conference coach ever.

Style of Play - whatever works the best for the players we got.
Goals - score more points than the other team. Win more games than the other teams in MWC.
Recruiting - try to get the best guys we can get.

Players Era Festival

I don’t think that players will be sitting this out should their schools participate in this.

Also, this would be a big boost to recruiting for these schools. We need to do this annually!
How much do you want to bet that the NCAA will attempt to put limits on how many times UNLV can be in the players festival to keep a smaller school from having an upper hand on their golden boys? If UNLV gets in every year, then that would be a huge boost to the program in regards to recruiting.

Dan Mullen on David Pollack’s college football podcast

That was a great interview, and IMO, it really brings some clarity as to why Mullen brought in Alex Orgy. He talked about developing QB's, and how he molded guys with all different skillsets to be great college (and beyond) QB's. Alex Orgy has incredible physical skills, but needs coaching on his reads and throwing technique. But Mullen puts a lot of stock in the intangibles.
That was the first thing I noticed. If he can bring the transfer portal QB's, as well as the ones already on the team, to the level of their potential, there is a great chance for UNLV to make the playoffs this next season.

Josh Pastner

I am going to go on the record here and I’m going to predict that Josh Pastner is going to get it done. He’s charismatic, a great recruiter, and a determined individual. Something we haven’t here since Tark. I get that he’s not the best X and O guy but I don’t think Tark was either! Tark was charismatic and a great recruiter. He had Grg for the tactical side and I think as long as Pastner hires a good associate coach to assist in the tactical side I think we will be ok. Look at his recruitment at previous schools, It’s been top notch. I really think he’s gonna get it done and at least bring us back into relevance.

True more of a developmental prospect than a help right now prospect. With his athleticism you can tell he wants to make him into a poor man's Tebow.
