UNLV Hockey

One thing I’ll say about Foley is he really has dropped the ball for supporting local hockey IMO. Does very little for youth hockey as far as funding and includes the rinks at t-mobile and Henderson rink as the required sheets of ice by the NHL. (Which the youth can’t really play at). The City of Henderson basically funded that who thing anyways. Yes him bringing the knights in sparked the youth hockey movement, but have been pretty disappointed by the lack of support especially with how this community has supported his team and made him millions.

He should be a huge advocate for UNLV hockey and fund raise to get them their own rink so they can get to D1. I’m assuming he doesn’t want competition either for the Silver Knights.
I am guessing you haven't followed UNLV hockey much? Foley has been very involved and done a lot for UNLV hockey as well as local hockey.

Zaon Collins

I am aware of the feelings that Las Vegans have for him and that it is not possible to say anything positive about him without drawing out the negative feelings about him and what happened here but with that said.

He is a true point guard that is extremely fast, quick, great handles and a very good passer. Last night was the first time I have ever seen him play and am very impressed.

I dont think he will be in the Mountain West next year. The Blue Bloods will come calling for a pass first point guard that can feed their 4 & 5 star scorers.

Washington State hires South Dakota State HC

It doesn't always need to be bad to have zero west coast ties. Odom really had no west coach ties when he took over UNLV, and they did most of there recruiting from the south, and look what that did for UNLV. So far of the five recruits for UNLV under Mullen, four are from Florida, and one from Texas. Also all of the coaching staff he has brought in came from back east.
Well I suppose. I guess Rogers will bring the South Dakota recruiting market to bear....... :)

Miss State

The only reason Dan left Miss St is because Florida called. And the only reason he was fired from Florida was because he had 1 bad year/cycle and fans expect National titles there every season. Otherwise he'd still be there somewhere winning 10 games or more a season. Us getting him was a steal and major move.
Are you sure you won't consider trading him for WSU's new coach? It will save you $2M/year.

Miss State

I sometimes read other message boards to get a different take. I read Miss States board just to see how they felt about CDM taking the UNLV job. For most, CDM for football at Miss State is almost akin to Tark for UNLV basketball. Not quite, but the majority of Miss States fans would take him back in a heartbeat. In general many felt CDM had 3 stars playing like 5 stars in the SEC. Also, I didn’t know CDM at one point had Miss State ranked no. 1 in the country after starting out 10-0 in 2014 and losing to no. 4 Alabama and Saban 25-20 on the road. MSU finished no. 7 in the final AP poll that year. Also, CDM’s new defensive coordinator is Zach Arnett who was his dc at Miss State. Their take on CZA was very positive. Apparently, Arnett is very aggressive with his defensive schemes and expect an aggressive defense. On the offensive coordinator, Corey Dennis is Urban Meyers son in law. I don’t know if that connection has been mentioned.

4 Star visit

Percy Harvin was 5'11 and had almost 4000 yards from scrimmage and 32 TDs in this system... I think he knows how to work with a short quick WR
He has also had a roster of WR’s well over 6’0” at both his stops as well.
We just saw what a good taller WR in Ricky White can do so I still would like to see a taller WR on the team to go with the others!

Washington State hires South Dakota State HC

Scroll up to read my thoughts. But to summarize, I think this is a shit hire. We could and should have done much better.

My idiot Coug brethren? Most of them think this is a home run hire. And that Rogers apparently bringing his entire staff of completely non-FBS experienced coaches with zero West Coast ties is great news. And that he apparently will be bringing a bunch of his FCS players to bolster the roster is wonderful news.
My post on the G-5 PAC weren’t aimed at you at all. In fact, I have enjoyed reading some of your takes and views on WSU football and the G5 PAC.

UNLV Hockey

Ok I'll start with it was an exhibition.

With that out of the way.

This is still an absolutely massive upset.

Denver is ranked #5 in the country this year. Won it all last season.

What a win for the boys. I really hope somebody steps up and helps fund their move to D1.

I would say less than 50%. I really don't think that the Big 12 really wants to elevate more G5 teams if they don't have to. I think they are still watching the ACC to see if anything happens there, though that looks less likely than inevitable at this point.
What the Big 12 needs is more quality football. I think they hit the pause button on that UConn deal mostly because of the football program not doing anything to help.
Now UNLV is in good standing right now. Good market with bonus points for fans who want to come here for conference games. Just finished in the final CFP rankings.
We did have our best year ever after being one of the worst FB programs in the country. We lost our coach and a vast majority of players that got us there.
Mullen was a home run hire with a contract that is P4 level. His buyout was purposefully low so you can't count on him staying IF he can do as well or better. Oh yeah, it is getting even more difficult to compete with power conference teams for players with NIL blowing up like it has.
So for UNLV to get that call they have to stay a top 25 level team for a few years, it would really help to crash the playoffs, and then we have to hire another homerun and start over from scratch personnel wise yet again most likely.
Unless the Big 12 gets desperate and they have another subpar year next season, AND UNLV not only keeps pace, but somehow does even better, then a call may come sooner than 6 years or so.
Which makes it tougher because we will be playing in a weaker league after next season and our degree of error becomes razor thin.

UNLV if added cannot reduce the overall media contract. If BIG12 can add UNLV and possibly one other and the media payouts stays static UNLV has a shot. If it would reduce the payout because it's one more mouth to feed the other schools will vote against the addition. Really comes down to that.

I think UNLV is definitely trying to position themselves and make themselves as viable as possible.

But until I'm sitting in Stillwater Oklahoma watching the Rebs play the Cowboys in a conference game its still a pipe dream.

All we have now is ifs and maybe...
I look at the viewership numbers for UNLV games on a national level, and from what I can see the viewership numbers that include UNLV games have more than doubled in the last 2-3 years. Under Mullen UNLV is going to have even more eyeballs on them to see what happens then they had under coach Odom. All you need to do is look at the increase in social media followers and interactions regarding UNLV post to see that the interest level is going up! Another huge positive for UNLV is picking up a players out of Florida, Texas, and other areas from the south, mid-west, and eastern regions. which will go far to increasing the media interest in UNLV. The more UNLV ties to past SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and ACC coaches and players, the better chance to turn UNLV more into a national level program than just a regional program.

Agree except I’d put our chances at 50/50 should the B12 expand. Much better than a pipe dream. We’re definitely on the list of top 5 G5 schools to be offered an invite.

I will not allow myself to believe it can happen until it does. So many moving pieces in the realingment game still need to be played.

BIG12 may look more East to help out Cincy/Wvu with travel which puts UConn/Memphis/ Tulane in play.

Definitely not impossible and I think there may be more behind the Mullen hiring and increased booster support. But I'll temper my expectations for now..

There are four schools that make sense if the big12 expand. UNLV, UConn, Memphis, and Tulane. They will probably take 2 of them. We just need to make sure that no matter the configuration, it’ll be insane to not take UNLV.

Best way is what we’re doing now. Sustain the success, so we can sell more seats and keep eyes on the tv. Having Coach Mullen helps us gain a few extra eyeballs nation wide from fans of his, and people who are curious about how he’ll do. Need to at least bowl the next 3 years.

I am dying to see some smash mouth football but while utilising Coach Dan Mullen's wizardry play calling on the offense end. We need to shore up more DL and OL line.
