"The two sides were in active discussions late Wednesday night, with the deal being finalized Thursday morning, sources familiar with the situation said. UNLV was able to entice Mullen with an increased name, image and likeness budget in addition to revenue-sharing payments for players starting next season.

UNLV is a member of the Mountain West and is not legally obligated to participate in the upcoming revenue-sharing model that will be enforced within the four power conferences beginning as early as July 1, but the Group of Five school is prepared to pay players via a smaller revenue sharing model, a source briefed on the discussions.. In addition, the NIL payments outside the revenue-sharing model is expected to more than double to a total of several million dollars."
That alone just dumped the rest of the MWC/Pac in the dust of UNLV football when it comes to recruiting!

Mullen

Harper is the man...he seems relatively humble in comparison to other AD's after the Odom success. Many would be walking around campus roping cattle with their hog after that. He seemed more focused on keeping him than pounding his chest. Now he has two reasons to do it.
He has truly done a tremendous job! Hope that he gets rewarded for all of his hard work and foresight.

Dan Mullen Hire?

UNLV was an impossible job to have before 2020. Not sure if "coaching graveyard" is the right term more than it's just a function of having nothing desirable to offer recruits (world-class stadium, complex) and as a result were stuck hiring from a pool of candidates that had no better coaching options themselves. I mean, many have gone on to be head coaches again (Sanford, Hauck, Sanchez) after UNLV just to do what they did again before here (Hauck, FCS) or go to other programs and still achieve limited success (Sanford-Indiana St, Sanchez-New Mex St). This is more telling of their head coaching ability than anything UNLV ever did to them. UNLV didn't put them in a graveyard. Their talent and ability charted their course. If Odom was hired a decade ago, he likely fails. He knows this. That's why his caliber never applied prior. Odom is no dummy. He knew the program (post 2020) was an easy sell (relative to the MWC) and that if he can just beat who he's supposed to, he will be exalted back up to the P4 and get paid. He entered here thanking his lucky stars that Arroyo screwed it up and didn't claim the easy glory. There are dozens out there that could have achieved what Odom did here when you think about it.

Welcome 14th coach of UNLV, Dan Mullen

This CBS article makes it sound like the NIL pool will increase by quite a bit

more than doubling.

Welcome 14th coach of UNLV, Dan Mullen

Question is how much NIL money is out there? i dont think we will be in the 25 ,but TOP 40-50 i can live with. Talent evaluation is the key.

This right here! NIL is the most important factor in success these days. It far outweighs things like facilities and locker rooms. I don't necessarily like it but it's the way it is. I don't think Dan Mullen would come here unless he knew nil would be an advantage
Crazy thing is if his HYPE matches results or close to it it only gets better from here.
