CSU/USU suing MW over exit fees

Apple TV offered the remaining PAC schools after USC/UCLA left 23 million per school.

That's Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Cal, ASU, UofA, Colorado, Utah, Washington State and Oregon State.

You're replacing those first 8 schools with Boise, SDSU, Fresno, USU, CSU and Gonzaga.

Not sure if that helps with speculation/forming an opinion on future PAC media deal or not.
Exactly! The gap between some of those schools are gigantic, and that's not using recency bias.

Got a Quarterback

26TDs, 20INTs and a 42.7 QBR.

I'll stick with....meh.

What's between meh and good addition?

I'll take Mullen and other P5 schools interest in him as a positive.

But I get why that TD to INT ratio tempers excitement over it a little.

But then how much of it was poor Oline play? Forcing throws because you're chasing games? Poor WR play? Level of opposition? Play calling? I don't know.

Mikey Keane had better numbers with Fresno State but I'm not sure I'd want him over this dude.

Call it cautious optimism I guess.

Got a Quarterback

Saw him play a couple of times this year. Underwhelming. Lots of turnovers. Got benched for last game, the fans were happy. Not exactly a splash QB recruit. Hopefully we can pull someone better.
I wondered why you mentioned that he was benched but failed to mention how the backup played. Then I saw the box score and their backup threw under 200 yards, zero touchdowns and 2 picks.

Sounds like the situation in VA was not a QB issue. This is a good pickup.

How can you say it is only due to inflation?

You may question their reasoning, but they did at least initially pick 4 of the top 6 markets from the MW and more importantly excluded all of the detractors. I think USU is a middle of the road MW market.

It is simple math. They will have a significantly better TV deal than us. What they ultimately get is hard to say. They will likely add one detractor to get to 8. If you have a wad of cash in one pocket and you take out all be 1 of the larger bills and put it in the other pocket, you won't have the same amount of money in each pocket.

We will luck out to get the same deal we are used to, and that is simply due to inflation. None of our additions move the needle in the right direction. I can see us getting less than our last contract with the recent moves.

Their brands may not be great, but they have more interest in those programs than we have had.

Any new deal they get is going to be higher than what they were getting in the MW, but I’d argue that’s mostly due to inflation.

I just don’t think their value is really that high. Is CSU v USU going to have more viewers than SJSU v AFA? Not on any measurable scale that truly matters, IMHO.

Sports betting has changed the game and leveled the field in that regard considerably.

As of now they’ve only got 7 football teams, so any valuation is only based on that. Gonzaga was a good add for them, but not likely at the price they paid to get them. I’d argue that’s mostly due the value they get from adding Gonzaga is only going to be worth about half of what they’re paying, which means the other half is coming from the football media value.

Aside from Boise they really don’t have any “brands” to move the needle from a media rights standpoint. And even that is tentative… Boise has to stay relevant… what happens when someone poaches their coach next week and guys hit the portal? Doesn’t take much to take a step back and they’ve been awfully fortunate over the last decade or so.

Are they going to get more than the MW? Yes. Likely not going to be that much more than they would’ve gotten had they stayed and essentially forced the PAC 2 to merge.

We shall see though.

Dan Mullen on the Herd

I was going to bring that up. That was hilarious. Couldn't believe he knew Nap went to Lompoc. I was like OK maybe he isn't such a dork. The other good one was when we caught Boomer Esiason trying to sneak in with his UNLV cheerleader GF.
Lol, Boomer gets out of a limo right as we were waking by it, he walks up to us hey with arm extended to shake our hands, "Hey guys, Im Boomer" we are like yeah we know, and she aint your wife.

Got a Quarterback

If Mullen is considered a “home run” hire why are some of you already down on his pick for QB?
The thing that many of you critics fail to realize is he May have thrown int’s at higher rate than most would like, that was against ACC level comp, we aren’t playing ACC level comp in the MWC. If Mullen picked him and you think Mullen is a good coach how about getting through fall camp before giving the QB a vote of no confidence!

Got a Quarterback

As it stands we have a RS-freshman as our QB so Mullen needs to bring in at least two QBs to give us some options. In that light this kid is a decent pickup. If he’s the only QB pickup then I’m worried. A bit undersized and the TOs are rather troubling. Runs ok, much better arm than Hajj, seems like a kid who could work in the Mullen’s offense but I’d definitely want another QB to compete for the starting role.

Got a Quarterback

Fifty-fifty chance that he is our starter next year. Friel is probably better and I imagine we recruit one more QB before this is all done.
Friel is a SR and done I believe... and no, even if he had eligibility left, he's not starting over guys Dan brings in.
This is the guy Dan wanted. He's a high P4 talent with an arm. Was sought after by other P4 programs.

Dan Mullen on the Herd

I lived in Oregon for a year 2002-2003 when he was there and had a local radio show. One day he was just going off on Tark and UNLV how much they cheated, Richard Perry stuff, etc, etc. So I wrote him an email basically saying I agree that Tark wasnt clean by NCAA standards but he was far from a lone wolf in that regard. He replied back with a full page rant basically saying what he had said on the air then tells me when he lived in LV he dated a girl that knew Ice and she told him (Cowherd) about all of the shady shit that went on at UNLV.

My other encounter with him was at the Rebel Pub in the early 90's when I was in school when Cowherd the same time he on the air in LV. I was there with InnZoneReb and we were like hey lets see if this guy knows anything about sports. He is UW fan from Washington so we start talking to him and he was talking about UW and I decide to check his knowledge so I ask him what High school Napoleon Kaufman who was at UW at the time, went to. He quickly said Lompoc. Apparently we decided that was enough he passed and we decided he did know sports...
