Without UNLV, at least how Ross Dellenger reports it.

Washington State
Oregon State
Boise State
San Diego State
Fresno State
Colorado State

Maybe if we were UNLV State... or Las Vegas State.

Man. I would expect to be included in the next "round" but it's a gutting feeling to be "that far" from even a MWC+ version of the Pac 12.,..

All a bunch of markets no one wants.... Goodluck with that TV deal... maybe take NMst and Utah St..... "PacState conference"

This, is depressing news.
Will, this effect football only? Or, will it effect basketball to?
If UNLV thought this was a good deal for them, then they would be the first school picked to join. With the Las Vegas market and the current UNLV football team success, the only reason I can see that UNLV is not in this group is that UNLV is looking elsewhere!

Hope, so. But, where do we go from here?
Stay, in this diluted Mountain West?
Go, to Big 12? Wouldn't the Big 12, take the Pac 6 teams, ahead of us?

My expectation is UNLV is the only school in the MWC that could find the money to leave the MWC immediately if they got the right invite while the others will struggle to find the money.

No. That's why they're trying to get into their own conference... the Big 12 didn't want them. Again there's no market for any of those schools, and while it's true they don't "need" UNLV to get into Vegas Market, it makes sense to add another west option.. especially if they figure out how to add Gonzaga for basketball only

They would of taken them to begin with. They left them behind! I read something about they can only take 4 schools. Then they could take 2 schools next year so the buyout would not be as bad. I hope we are not on the 2nd tier of schools or are we bidding our time for the BIG 12?? Seeing how this year pans out?? IF Odom can get us into the BIG 12 then he should get keys to the city.

Well, add S Utah, Weber St, Montana, and Montana St to the MW, yikes. How did you UNLV not get picked over Colorado st??

There really aren’t any good expansion options. Whatever direction the MWC goes is a huge step down.

The Montana’s
The Dakota’s
Utep/Nmsu
Sacramento State/UC-Davis

It looks like the PAC-12 might announce the 4 new additions tomorrow. We can only hope that UNLV is on the next announcement.

Yes, they’ll be adding 2 more schools. The question is will it be more MWC schools or are they AAC schools. If it’s 2 MW teams and UNLV isn’t one of them we’re in a very bad situation.

Yeah I hate to assume the worst but man..

Hoping this is on going..

Maybe (trying to be positive here) UNLV is in discussion with the Big 12? I believe there were talks while Allegiant was being built.

Denver market.

The pac2 has to be listening to a media partner on who to choose to invite. This isn’t some random selection process. They clearly preferred markets, and I believe this is the CW network making moves. They have the ACC and now they get Mountain/central and pacific time zones to fill their game day slots. The two schools remaining to fill will be central time zones and I’m thinking they will be Texas schools.

As for unlv, we will have opportunities. There is still a huge domino to fall with the acc and there’s also the big12. Lastly, our days in the MWC are nearing an end, I don’t believe we will be staying in this conference of leftovers. Nor would we be interested in traveling to Montana or South Dakota for conference games.

Time for us to move on.

He’s pretty accurate and this tweet gives more details about what’s going down.

I don't think we are in the position to turn anyone down. Maybe a 10% chance that the big 12 wants us. But the HUGE hole in that theory is that there is no way that we would be higher on the Big12 list than SDSU. And there is NO WAY SDSU would turn down the big 12 for the PAC.
The new PAC will get more money than the MW gets and more than a merger that is for sure.
The remaining MW will get even less money the next contract then we currently get.
We have been left behind. Maybe we will be part of wave 2 in a year?
The only way out is winning th MW and getting into the playoff. That might be enough to be picked up for a better league

UNLV is not negotiating against itself. We're out trying to join a real P4, not a modified G5. 6 teams doesn't even qualify as a conference
But you think UNLV is in better position than SDSU?
Let's be real here. It really is thr Big 12 or nothing. SEC, ACC, and B1G are not never going to go after UNLV.
The Big 12 cares about basketball. SdSU is a better market, a much better basketball school and has a better football program historically.

Unless they bring back several past PAC 12 members this will be just another G5 conference. Perhaps it was too much $$ to shell out to go G5 to G5.

I could be wrong (I am most of the time), but maybe UNLV just didn’t want to hang its hat on a conference or pay to be in a conference that is essentially the MWC 2.0 when the real prize is down the road like the B12? IDK, I could be wrong, but that makes more sense than anything else I’ve read as to why UNLV was left out.

You're argument is that basketball is a big 12 driver... I'm here to argue it's not. Football is where the media rights are being traded in. If basketball was the sole reason, why did they add Utah or ASU? Why did they halt the slam dunk of adding UCONN and Gonzaga for basketball only? It's because football is driving that conversation and it's not just "successful" football... SDSU plays in a 30k seat stadium, while they have had flashes of success by comparison to UNLV in the past 20 years, they aren't exactly a football powerhouse or emerging powerhouse like TCU was. Again, yeah the basketball stuff has been good for their brand, but they haven't been in those discussions even in the past... at the height of both their programs, they tried the Big East and no one else wanted them, then they tried to slip into the Pac 12 and no one else wanted them. Now they're jumping to a what they hope is slightly more lean and marketable Pac State conference... why if they were more desirable?

Well the one thing we have in the current MW is being the best G5.
We won't be any more. The new PAC will likely have a significantly better contract too. So we will be in a less competitive league getting lowered guaranteed media funds.
It makes making the Big 12 more difficult from a prove it on the field scenario. It does make it easier from a breaking contract situation.
Our new MW deal will be peanuts and the buyout should be easy since it is based off of the media revenue, but a new contract will be at it's highest. So we would still want to be invited to a new conference BEFORE a new MW deal is made.

Better market Check.
Better football program, Big check. 8 bowl games in the past 10 years. including 2 MW championships.
Better basketball program double big check. I don't need to say why.

There is no metric, other than stadium size, where UNLV has them beat. Again conference do not need UNLV for Allegiant. In fact having UNLV in the conference makes it trickier. They probably would rather have a fully neutral site for BB and football championships

Nobody wanted us. The big East wanted them because of football. Same with the PAC 12. At least better paying conferences wanted them. No one has ever wanted UNLV.
