Vegas Golden Knights

Admittedly, I'm a casual fan at best. That being said, I love how engrained they are in the community. They seem to embrace Las Vegas while remaining out of trouble (correct me if I'm wrong since I haven't heard about any incidences).

How was the draft and how were the trades for the team? Net positive? Net decline? I know that it's tough to judge until next year's playoffs, but what are your thoughts?

I saw that we lost Logan Thompson, which is a name that I'm aware of. Did we keep the other goalie who helped us with the Cup?

Question for Rebel Fans

In our short time on X it has looked like there are quite a lot of disagreements in the community on sports topics and takes, but some of the exchanges seem very personal? We are not insiders there nor are we a hundred percent tuned into the basketball side of things. It seems like a lot of personal shots come out and arguments begin when basketball is discussed. We saw a discussion about Coach Odom getting a statue here in the future and some people freaked out. Can anyone break it down?

I have occasion to

Bump into a current UNLV football player semi-regularly. No, not giving names, not giving position, not saying where we bump into each other. It’s not all that important.

I’m a very curious person. I congratulated him on last season and we talked about it up and down the schedule. What it meant to our fans, etc. Now the guy has been here multiple years so he played for both Arroyo and Odom. Which is where my primary interest lies - the differences … since the on the field differences were very obvious to the naked eye and obviously so were the final results.

He DID like Arroyo and staff. And he really likes the current staff. He said a big difference was team wide accountability. He also said the current coaching staff is tight with one another, they’re all on the same page. And that wasn’t so much the case with the previous staff. The demeanor of the staff was much different and it commanded respect without asking for it.

Now this doesn’t seem enlightening me because it mirrors what I thought was going on … based upon how the team was prepared and how they responded. But as I talked about in a post last week, seeing it from the stands or TV is different than seeing it day in and day out up close and your from the stands opinion may be wildly off, no matter how deeply you feel it (Greedy vs Dickel).

I’ll add more to this a little bit later.

2025 Recruiting!

I have noticed that UNLV is a mile in front of the rest of the MWC in regards to recruiting. UNLV has 9 recruits with an average rating of 2.89 while the next closest is SJSU with 4 recruits and a 2.5 rating. BSU has 6 recruits with a 2.17 rating. I get the feeling that if UNLV can have another great season, then they will leave the rest of the conference in the dust in regards to recruiting. Number 1 priority is to keep Odom!

Gotta admit

I’m struggling to pull the trigger on my season tickets for the upcoming season. I keep hearing that the team will compete for the MWC title and is in a strong position to make the NCAA. I struggle to see it. We had the horses last year but didn’t have the coaching to get them there, at least not in the first few months of the season. Having DJ & Whaley back is great. Hill maybe can fulfill his potential. Hicks ought to take at least a small step forward. But I struggle to see the rest of the returnees plus the newcomers making this team a contender for the Dance, not even the MWC title. Knowing DJ is likely gone after this season just makes it tougher to invest in this program yet again. Staff should been all in on getting the best talent around him and swing for the fences this year, but it just looks like a mediocre team on paper. Someone please tell me I’m wrong, that we have more going for us than I understand. Can someone convince me that this is not the year to drop my season tickets?

Been out of town for about a week …

Remote in terms of tech. It’s awesome to not have to charge your phone for 6 days. Even better to not have to look at anything social. But then you get non stop peppered by notifications once you get in range.

We did this a couple of years ago, childhood friends that were made from grade 2 or 3 through 9th grade and forged that special bond of brotherhood that has lasted 50 years later. Thankfully, we didn’t lose one over the past couple of years but to a man (8 of us this time, 3 couldn’t make it), everyone has lost somebody close to them in that last two years, some expected, most unexpectedly.

Buddy owns a cabin on Cedar Mountain, a distance from Duck Creek, plenty of room for us all, 3 fully prepped meals per day, everyone chipped in with duties. We planned this, that and the other and did none of it. Didn’t use my gym shoes, my hiking boots, remained in flip flops and didn’t leave the cabin, aside from sleep, we were all on the large deck just bs’ing and tossing back a few.

Highly recommended if you get the chance to connect like that.

Not looking forward to getting back to work, that’s for sure. As I left on my PTO, I threw a rather large monkey wrench at management, officially giving my interest in a different job (I absolutely LOATHE my current job, what it has become). I figured it was a good time to release it, let them stew over it for about a week. Haven’t gone through the 100+ text messages or any work emails yet, I’m sure it’ll be interesting. I’ll see if anything UNLV popped up in the messages.

Anything major happen with UNLV in the past week before I go through some posts later tonight?
