OT: UNLV women’s volleyball

I went to their scrimmage earlier this month which was held in the auxillery section of the Cox Pavillion.

They are super athletic and I can watch them all day. As a matter of fact, I’m gonna buy season tickets.

I actually prefer this to women’s basketball. The balls come at you at a super high Velocity.

The women adjust their shorts more than you realize, makes for dirty volleyballs.

What do you all think of volleyball in general?

UNLV football

9 and 5, great season for me, I actually cared.
Staff has proven they have moved UNLV from bottom to what 4th in yr.

Kansas going to have 600-700 yrds tonight.
Defense needs a total overhaul of talent.
Maiva had great yr as freshman, struggled as competition got better, need consistent running game to help him grow.

I am on record within 2-3 years if Odom stays UNLV will become top program in MWC.

Basketball I given up

Happy New Years

Just freaking Sad

FAU-AZ double ot game in vegas, not sight of UNLV even being invited big teams!

Just shows how bad UNLV is, lower half MWC team, all guys from 74 to 92 teams that made UNLV great, must be wheres the Runnin at, instead they see walkin!

I am too old, but it be nice to see UNLV in MWC semis within the next 10 yrs, is that too much to ask?

I am not even asking to win anything, just play exciting basketball, and you lose 89-88 at end of great game! Instead I watched UNLV have 14 points at half, St Mary's should be ashamed!

Never mind me, happy holidays to few of us UNLV faithfully, be safe and healthy with your families!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE

Except that IDIOT @bcvegaspt, communists, the French, people who use exclamation points when a period will do, kickers, soccer players, people who live in Reno, Vegans, Carnival workers, Clowns, the guy that messed up my order at Starbucks..I mean how hard is it to make a quad long shot grande in a venti cup half calf double cupped no sleeve salted caramel mocha latte with 2 pumps of vanilla substitute 2 pumps of white chocolate mocha for mocha and substitute 2 pumps of hazelnut for toffee nut half whole milk and half breve with no whipped cream extra hot extra foam extra caramel drizzle extra salt add a scoop of vanilla bean powder with light ice well stirred..

Rebel Christmas Memories

Anyone else care to share some of their earliest Rebel Basketball experiences? I’ll start by remembering my Dad driving me out a lonely dark Maryland Parkway past an out in the country Sunrise Hospital, and driving to Nevada Southern University, going into the gym and watching the Rebels. It was Christmastime and I had just gotten a new basketball. Only about 3 or 4 buildings on the whole campus. The Rebs moved permanently into the Rotunda of the Convention Center in 1964. The best of my memories are still there, highlighted by the yearly Holiday Classic and the band would play Christmas music between the games. Oh my God, those past memories are great. Merry Christmas everybody. I’m not shy to admit that I miss those old glory days… a lot…

More Conference Realignment

I see FSU, Miami, Clemson and few others leaving the ACC. This will start a chain reaction which will be an arms race for either 1) the corpses of the ACC and Pac2 to try and merge with each other and make a 2 coast 2 division “super league” or 2) the conferences will start trying to poach to stay alive. Think FAU and Liberty to join ACC.

There are some teams who recently joined the Big12 who I could see bolting again to Big10. I don’t think Utah wants to be in the Big12, but it was their only option. FSU and Clemson will be the catalyst. Both will try and get into the SEC, where they probably belong. Miami will try to have FSU drag them over the SEC finish line.

I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Stanford and Cal look to reneg on their ACC idea if the big boys from the ACC leave for the SEC. The Big12 is not on as solid ground as their fans think they are. They’re OBVIOUSLY in a better place than the Pac2 and ACC, but the Big10 and SEC are not done.

If you are an opposing coach …

Are you licking your chops at the number of different ways you can beat these Rebels or is it confusing because you don’t know which to pick.

How do you handle their offense?

- remain patient and just stick straight M2M and only worry about DTJ?

- you don’t have to emphasize getting back

- it’s not really worth zoning them because the inside presence is nil. Or do you force them to shoot from the outside with a zone, can even play a 3-2 since we don’t rebound.

- do you run a gimmick at UNLV, like a box and one, do you look to quick help on DTJ?

Why do anything but what you are best with, your base defense, since we struggle to score. The only scouting report - watch out for the young kid, he can nearly beat us alone. The rest don’t do much.

How do you score against them?

Me - I’m trying dribble penetration and then sending three others towards the basket for a dish or offensive rebound. One back is fine because we won’t push it.

Do you attack everywhere you can? Go at Cottrell in the post whenever you can? Dribble at Webster?

Stay patient because they’re bound to break down somewhere at some point during the set?

This team should not have as many weaknesses as they have ….

Desert Classic

Any college basketball fans going?

Arizona V Florida Atlantic -

the Beach Boys -

I love watching college ball _ I love scouting other coaches _ Dusty May is impressive- He has created a culture at FAU-

Its more about a good fit rather than just being a talented coach - But I cant help but admire this up and coming coach-- IF I remember correctly FAU locked him up for years- He likes Florida

During their Run last year in March I kept thinking _ why cant we get a coach like this ?

I bet our AD was thinking the same thing.......

3 point shooting

In our losses we are averaging 29% from three. In our wins we are 40 % from three.

It makes sense since our team rebounding is so bad we need to sink the long shot to win. Unless we make a huge jump in getting the boards you'll be able to tell if we are going to win by seeing if our shots beyond the ARC are falling. Also, DTJ penetrates a lot and then looks to find the open man for the three. I'd like to see him finish at the basket more and make the shot or get fouled.
