2024 Davi Belfort ESPN #9 QB

The fact that the new staff is offering ESPN top 300 kids is awesome. Anytime a high level recruit tweets about us is a good thing. Don't get me wrong I know our chances of landing him are low but Petrino is hard at work building relationships that will pay off in the future. Plus if this kid is in the portal in a year we could have a opportunity to get him.

Allegiant

With Allegiant being the most profitable concert venue I would love to see the Raiders get sick of us and build us our own on-campus stadium. Just think of the $$ they could make having concerts instead of Rebel games. 1 concert would bring more than an entire season of Rebel football.

Rebounds

The following is a great article on what a player needs to do to be a good rebounder. As I watch the team I see very few of these basic concepts in use. Last night it was common to have three Rebels under the basket and a San Jose State player grab the rebound or tip it out for a teammate. They got 12 points off offensive rebounds. If we got one of those, we win. For those who think we need taller, more athletic players I have two words. Warren Rosegreen.

SDSU game

Just saw in the SD newspaper that UNLV hosts SDSU today at 1pm.

I’ll be curious to hear the attendance. Tough time to play, New Years Eve mid day, at same time as a playoff game. Not ideal, but I guess it happens every year.

Similarly but not the same, Last night a good UCLA BB team struggled in Pullman 8pm tip, but did win. Only 3k fans while the Wassu students are home for winter break, probably national media all over Pullman after the arrest of one of their students accused in the University of Idaho murders.

OT: What’s the longest you’ve ever stayed at a buffet?

I’m on a total winning streak..I been eating at Hazel Wilson House of Commons and they were filming for a commercial, so the lady up front said my meal was for free!!

Im studying to be a gym instructor but my bipolar, I can’t sit and memorize picture and sentences.

Well it’s finals week and I plan on sitting here until 8 pm and will be eating like a cow!!

SJSU vs UNLV official game thread

Alright, if you’re ever in that sh*t hole called San Jose, you gotta check out burritos iguanas..home of the burrito zilla. It’s a giant 2 foot burrito.

The owner always wanted to meet me..because, who doesnt. Anyways I’m a boxing head and we knew each other since 2006 from eastsideboxing.com He was into boxing too and his first amateur fight at 12 years old was against Andre Ward. (The guy who retired instead of getting his head punched into oblivion.) anyways, he’s a really super nice guy. You would think he is an asassin. This guy is a real rockstar. He plays guitar in a band and didn’t even finish high school. He went straight into playing in a Mexican band. Just an amazing talented Mexican dude. When I was at my fitness peak, he got introduced into CrossFit and he turned his fat into muscle. I dropped to like 147 at the time and we both got inducted at 39/40 of all time greatest boxing internet fans of all time.

Everybody wanted to meet Sam and sure enough, I did!!!

12/27 NET

Our NET ranking is 51st. 4th in the Mountain West. We trail NM (14), USU(22), and SDSU(38).

Last year Texas A&M was ranked 36th and failed to make the dance so that is a good barometer of where we need to be.

For those who don't know, NET is an NCAA ranking vehicle and is the MOST IMPORTANT metric used on selection Sunday.

"It takes into account game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses." (NCAA)

When you dig deep into the NET rankings you'll see teams are divided into tiers ( 1-4). The teams that win the most wins against good teams are tier 1 and the teams that lose against even poor competition are tier 4. It also looks like the scoring margin is also important. Just think - you need to play good teams and beat them by more than the spread to boost you NET ranking.

USU, SDSU, and NM will give us tier 1 wins either at home or away. Two out of three of these games at home are nearly must-win since we'll be playing catch-up most of the season. These teams plus Reno and Boise are all Tier 1 when we play them away. Winning a few of these games is a huge bonus because we get the tier 1 win and also deprive it for the others.

SJSU, AF and FSU are bottom feeders for the NET are must-win both away and at home.

Go Rebels.

13 games

Without Parquet, you notice defense is much weaker, with Webster and MCcabe getting his minutes.

Defensive rebounding, Muoka 1 board last night, guys are killing us on offensive boards.

Front court scoring some one who can't get bucket and get foul, don't have it.

Harkless, Rodriquez, Gilbert need score 75-80% for team, Rodriquez 5 points last night, Gilbert 3 for 13.

2 losses both games doubled up at free throw line.

End game offense execution and staff designing a play.

Team lacks depth big time.

For this team to win, defense-defense intensity has to be there, asking 18-22 year old can be difficult.

I expect much different intensity effort on Saturday against Aztecs, right now Aztecs have been vulnerable shooting 3 in games, I expect hard ugly defensive game, I hope 10k show up, to pull tough win out.

I don't worry about NCAA all that crap, they have what 17 more conference games to prove if there worthy, one game at a time

Enjoy holidays and enjoy UNLV hoops, we're dying breed of caring for UNLV sports.
