UNLV Exploring Options After USU Joins PAC

Again though..You're talking minimum 20 million dollars or more for each school that remains and theyre not going to get any money if they vote to dissolve the conference. If we leave, we pay and lose our vote. Any team that announces its leaving loses its vote. If I was getting left behind, why would I vote myself out of a position to get a huge payout? And if we vote to dissolve only to turn around and leave, we will end up in a lawsuit that we acted in collusion with Pac 12 to avoid paying exit fees for any one left behind.

So you as an AD have to have a serious conversation with a lot of people... do you turn down 30-40 million dollars and actually take a 18 million dollar hit to do so, just to basically be in the same situation you were before? That's a good way to lose your job.

Ok, new wrinkle I just had a thought about…

UNLV and AFA remain in lockstep. No grant of rights, no commitment to the league, no nothing.

The commish, who has been given power to explore for new teams, presents teams A,B,C, and D. Acceptance to the conference requires 3/4 of the members to agree… UNLV and AFA politely decline… being 2/7ths of the members they have veto power.

The MW settles with the PAC for $40million with the stipulation of no fees on anyone else that decides to join.

UNLV and AFA are entitled to their portion of any distribution, even if it happens in the future or at that moment. UNLV and AFA argue that the league is no longer viable and by default has dissolved… UNLV heads to the PAC and AFA heads to the AAC.

🤷🏽‍♂️
I thought the majority vote has control. Prior to the 5 leaving it took 75% to approve or disapprove something which was 9 out of 12. With 7 teams remaining doesn't the 75% still apply. That means 5 teams can approve or disapprove. If UNLV and AF are the only 2 votes disapproving of new conference member and the remaining 5 approve our 2 votes lost. What am I missing here?

edit: I was rounding down. So if you don't round you are probably right.

We could be… sure… but as it sits right now I’m sure both of us wants to leave and doesn’t want to pay $18 million to do it. Whether that’s to the AAC or PAC is irrelevant.

As it sits UNLV and AFA, as long as they stick together, can by default dissolve the conference by vetoing any new members and making it insolvent.
Is that right? Do all schools have to approve new incoming schools? Even still, the MWC would have 2 years after the other schools leave in 2026, so it would be 2028 I believe

This may be a top 10 tweet of all time

The PacTemu2’s bylaws say that cannot add teams that are under investigation. Adding more fun
We dont know, Coug. No one trust the PAC leaders. They sure did not vetted USU.
reagan - you are just making that shit up! (I hope)
tripod - I meant that the traitors don't leave until 7/1/26, then you have 2 years to put the conference back together. Not that you want to sit around for that long. But, I bet the Pac will do a scheduling agreement to help out. Ok, that was low...... :(

I'm still hoping for a reconciliation and birth of the Alaska/Hawaiian Air PacMtn-14. It just sounds so new and shiny.

Why would anyone agree to that? Also what makes anyone think we aren't negotiating with AFA to join the AAC and flip a middle finger to the Pac 2...

You of course know what you’re talking about… it’s the length of the delay that is at issue and really starts to muck things up.

You’re correct of course that they don’t have a leg to stand on and if it is likely that any ruling ultimately would favor the MW… but delay tactics are real and even if it ends up costing $’s in additional interest it would probably be in the PACs interest to delay, delay, delay.

If your the PAC you’re kind of in a spot where you have almost nothing to choose from outside the MW to get to your 8… so if by some miracle the MW holds together for the next 8 months, oh well guess we gotta go pick up Bobs State.

The MW teams need answers yesterday.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the MWC will be holding together until at least 7/1/26......

I understand that. But it still can be used against them.
To an impartial bystander/judge
MW:"We need the 18 mill to offset future losses of their departure"
PAC. You are already getting 11 million and you are asking for 18 more
for a contract less than 2 years from expiring. UNLV is only owed < 10 mil for that time. The other PAC 12 teams payed 5 mil a piece on a contract that had one year left. A contact worth over 20 mil per team per team per year..
MW: ugggh... they agreed to it
PAC: Oregon agreed to over 10 mil, your point? They didnt pay that. And they EASILY could. UNLV ain't no Oregon.
I am not talking about the lawsuit. I am talking about exit fee negotiations. Again, I don't think they will get the poaching fee reduced. How many times do I i have to say that.
But every other exit fee has been talked down in recent years. Not sure the mechanics of that, but I'm guessing lawyers are involved, no?
They are 2 separate things. Yes. I also understand that. But i can see how the fees can be used against them once the exit fees are going to be negotiated and ultimately reduced. And they will be reduced unless the MW teams cannot do what every other conference done.
The PAC as a conference are suing the MW, but the teams themselves talk down the fees.
Sorry buddy, you say 2 different things in successive posts. You sure you didn't come from my Board and assume a different handle? :) :)

And semi related, there were basically no exit fees for the Pac traitors because the media contract had expired. I still am not quite sure how we wrangled the $65M from them.

So the MWC should negotiate with Boise and with Fresno/CSU, get 60% that's still almost 12 million dollars per school.. SDSU on the other hand they don't, SDSU 2 years ago tried to leave and negotiated a settlement to return and avoid paying exit and entry fees.. they're F****d. I'm sure there was something in that settlement...
So you're still getting 55 million + 44-46 million, + 18.... that's a pretty good payday

Does the offense wake up this week?

I forgot the rest of my post...

Mikey Keane is improved from last year but he can still be baited into really bad throws. They are a wide open offense. Pressure is key to get Mikey to make bad decisions. If we win the turnover battle I think we win the game. Catalan and Baldwin are primed for 2-3 Ints.

Anyone have word on McDuffie?
Coach said game time decision

Crazy thing: frivolous lawsuits sometimes work or force settlement. This lawsuit is horribly bad and has little legal basis to continue, but that’s not why they filed it.

They’re forcing the MWC to the table to negotiate. It’s their only move. I’d love for the MWC to stay wrong in their principle and live off the exit fees, but it won’t happen.

everything your hypothetically PAC just said in that post is not based on law.

The “ughhhhh you agreed to it.” Is exactly how contract law works.

It can’t be used against them. It’s why the $17M exit fees are not part of the lawsuit.
