Does UNLV playing Boise in the MWC championship even matter long term? Even if CSU wins their last 2? Just my opinion, but the best scenario for UNLV is to win the last two games and their bowl game. Even if UNLV doesn’t play in the MWC championship, with UNLV currently ranked 23, they would move up into the top 20 and potentially around 15th in the nation. That would be HUGE! Especially since conference realignment is not completed.
You have to root for the Playoff berth. In a way you are crowned the G5 champion with that. That is pretty big. Also the money would be a huge bonus, something UNLV needs big time.
Getting likely beat in the first round, probably by a t least a couple of score, would sting for sure. But still better for the program.
To play into your scenario, if CSU wins out and we are eliminated from the playoffs, then making the LA Bowl and potential for beating a Big 10 opponent would still be pretty big. That would be a better scenario than losing to Boise on the road in the champ game (probably the more likely scenario). We would still probably get the LA bowl if we lost in the Championship game, but we could lose our ranking.
I think we need to go all in on this year. We rely on so many seniors most of them have been here for more than 1 year. I think we will have a bit of a dropoff next season. Not huge, but I think the ceiling is likely lower next season.
