I think he has a good shot, as well as Catalon, RW, Baldwin, Oliver, etc. We have a great group right now
I thought there was just no chance after last season. He just didn't have the size. But he bulked up a lot after last season and seems even faster. The broadcast though he was similar to Luke Kuechly (sp?) which is both a great comparison and extremely high praise.
But I can see it now.

Hypothetical: if the traitor schools decide to come back

One of the worst parts of committing to the MW last week, at least initially for me, was committing to a conference that has extreme exit fees. Learning that we had that P4 free pass made things significantly different.
Merging at this point has 2 draw backs. 1. Not getting that bonus money, which could still happen with poaching fees, but maybe not. We need that cash to extend Odom. The buyout isn't good enough to keep this thing going right now.
Again merger seems very far fetched right now, but yes. It would be a better per team payout for the MW schools, not for the PAC schools. It will be the best G5 conference easy, which is good.
But if we lose the P4 free pass, eff that. If we are at 17-18 mill for two years now? What happens with the next contract? 12 mil or more for every contract year? 60 mil if the Big 12 comes calling in 2 years?
Eff that. Those exit fees are reason enough to separate from the conference.
Again we will see what they actually end up being, but still. We aren't the freaking ACC, but our exit fees are, perhaps worse.

So you're telling me there's a chance

Looking at the schedule... is there a game we wont be favored? BSU, maybe? I am not so sure we wont be a 1-2 pt favorite in that game. Oregon state? Maybe.. could see us being a small dog there.

Syracuse- we are opening up the favorite

Utah st - we should win

Oregon State - think this will be a battle could see us slipping up here looking forward to BSU, I hope not I will be there!

Boise - statement game for the MWC championship

Hawaii - we should win here...

SDSU - I want to crush them.. has to be a W

San Jose - they are always tough could be a tight game, but we will win.

Reno - we must continue to dominate them, big W

I may be riding the high right now, but as of this moment I dont think its unrealistic to count on double digit wins before the post season starts. I see 4 games that are going to be the toughest even if we went 2-2 in those if we win the rest thats 10 wins there. I dont think thats unrealistic.

Lets go Rebs!!!
We should be the favorite in every game except OSU as you said is hard to tell. That said, being the favorite doesn't mean you win them all and at some point they become the hunted and not the hunter. They won't be able to afford to let up say vs SJSU (who pummeled us last year). The biggest challenge for them is having to beat BSU twice (as far as the CFP goes). Boise is good and it is hard to beat a good team twice. Though I could see losing to them in the regular season but beating them in the conference title game and still going to the CFP. But we are a long way from all that. Syracuse is next will focus on that.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

I think the PAC is going to throw the kitchen sink at UTSA. It's the least damaging to their media deal, makes sense regionally for the last addition and makes it easier for them to pick off Memphis, Tulane, and USF next round. It's the only thing I see making sense. The PAC are going to give us UTEP, Texas State, etc... but they're going to drive up the cost just out of spite. It's exactly what I would do in their current situation. Because the MWC teams are shutoff, they have no choice but to go east from here on out.

PAC is cooked if they take any other route.

For this reason, we need to offer UTSA and get them in a bidding war as well. Really emptying the PAC's wallet further.
They are only giving out half the PAC money use the rest to get two decent teams whether that be UTSA and Texas State or whoever. NMSU is a dead end.

UNLV Stays Put MWC

If there is a sliver of truth to Sluka's claims, mainly if it was Marion that promised him something, then that may hurt their relationship. We all know Marion is looking for the next thing. Some may think it will be the HC here. But I wonder if this expedite's his departure at all?
At the very least there needs to be full communication with the staff and the collective at all times. All offers need to be vetted first.

Again, it is very possible that it was and Sluka is lying through his teeth, made up this story to justify asking for more money 3 games in.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

I thought during the original stadium plans they were talking about doing the mechanical curtains for the top deck during UNLV games. It looks a lot better than straight tarps. The Atlanta MLS team plays in a NFL stadium but it looks pretty nice without the 400 level seats showing.

There you go. Get creative. Make it look great. Until we can worry about getting 40k+ fans anyways.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

Has the Pac 12 offered any new members yet? My gut says they're waiting to see who we add and then swoop on for the leftovers and claim that was there target the entire time.

Who's the next school to get poached.

We have a thread about potential MWC expansion targets. This whole thing is still super fluid so anything can happen.

Does the PAC circle back and make another run at Memphis with a better offer this time? I don't know. That exit fee is pretty steep. Can they make an offer that makes sense for Memphis to leave. Memphis has eyes/hopes on an ACC bid and have to figure they'd take an offer from. BIG12 if they came calling or ACC.

I don't think either conference wants to dip into FCS except as last resort.

Almost feels like a game of chicken now. Next move by either will set things off.

Anybody want to guess what piece/school comes off the board 1st?

My guess is Texas State..

AP Poll

Looking at who is playing whom next week, UNLV has a great chance to move up on the AP:
Game and likely to win/lose:

#25 Texas A&M playing #5 Missouri Lose
#24 Illinois playing Purdue Win
#23 Indiana playing Northwestern Win
#22 Louisville playing SMU Win - But I think this could be a close game with a good chance to win only loss for SMU was gainst BYU 18-15
#21 Boise State playing Utah State Win
#20 Kansas State playing Colorado Toss Up - Could go either way.
#19 Oklahoma playing #2 Texas - Lose
#18 Utah playing Arizona State - Toss Up - Being at Arizona State, I think they have a decent chance to win a close game
#17 BYU playing Arizona - Win - I think this could be a close game.
#16 Iowa State playing Baylor -Win - I think Iowa State is overrated, but I think Baylor isn't very good.
#15 Clemson playing Florida State Win - unr would have a hard time losing to Florida State.

No matter how bad the loss, no chance any team ranked above this would drop enough to help UNLV.

2-5 loses likely from #15-#25.

When talking about potential jobs openings that scare me..Baylor is one of them. They were really good not so long ago. Aranda is shuffling there. Would not be surprised if let go after this year. That's a place you can win at. Aranda makes double what Odom makes.

Think you got the win losses pretty well picked.

So you're telling me there's a chance

Would it shock you if SDSU / BOISE initiated the whole thing. Both have been trying to get out of MWC for years now.

Wouldn't surprise me. Doesn't mean they don't deserve our disdain though.
No Doubt. My expectation is also that BSU pushed keeping UNLV out of the first 4 and pushed to give UNLV no money. Their expectation was UNLV would kiss ass to get in with them! Time to crush both SDSU and Boise State when we play. With one of the best run defenses in the country, they have the ability to key on the RB for BSU and hopefully shut him down.

They all go to private school.
Nicco Fertitta is an assistant coach working with safeties at UNLV! both Lorenzo Fertitta (worth $3.3 billion) and Frank Fertitta III (worth $3.3 billion) live in Las Vegas. Between all their donations they have provided around 15-20 million to UNLV

Adelson family (Miriam) has given millions to the UNLV hotel school - no clue if they still donate anything under the Adelson Foundation. Worth $32.8 billion

Andrew (worth $3.1 billion) & Peggy Cherng (worth $3.1 billion) - Have donated numerous time to UNLV. I know the last one was $5 million for the William F. Harrah College, but that was back in 2020.

Nancy Walton Laurie has given 10's of million to the University of Memphis (I do not think she has given anything to UNLV even while living her for decades) Worth $9.3 billion

Elain Wynn chaired the UNLV foundation for eight year, has donated millions to UNLV, but not sure if she has donated anything recently.

Steve Wynn - Good luck with him. Bad feeling between UNLV and him.

Phil Ruffin - Not sure if he has or has not donated to UNLV.

I'm one of those weird people that actually prefer Endzone seats over 50 yard line seats. I'm the same with Hockey. I like my seats behind goal and up higher. Always felt like it gave me a better perspective and ability to watch/see plays develop.

Never understood why we don't put student section either in corner of players tunnel or directly behind opponents bench.

I'd also be more than fine swapping my seats to where student section is now.
I’d like the student section by the tunnel better if more students stuck around for the fight song.

But I’ll take what I can get. Student attendance is up, and it’s been noticeable.

Then it sounds like a coaching problem. He's got the talent but can't get them to put it together, or motivate, or just can't coach them up.
That's where I take pause when people shout "oh we have fringe top 25 talent"...
Like man, we had that for the past decade. We had that last yr coming in. Known producers, role guys, etc... we don't have that outside DJ and Whaley. we have a bunch of guys who all were average and we hope coaching pulls them together

Alumni Assn. need to get their act together. It charges $50 for the tailgate which most folks just aren’t going to spend for a dry hamburger and a beer. Make it affordable, he’ll just break even, the point is to provide a gathering place. Just set up tents and let the alumni bring their own tailgates under them. Whoever is in charge of that needs to open their eyes.
As for the students, let them in for free (as they’ve been doing) and continue to build an awesome game day experience. BTW they need a place to tailgate as well, perhaps this is where the Alumni Assn steps up and allows students to join in.
While I’m at it, figure something out with the space behind the end-zones. It looks like a morgue at both ends (field level). Tarp it or put portable stands for students at both ends.
End of rant…

CKK had talented teams the whole time he’s been here, and it’s always underwhelming or something else that throws the program for a loop.

This years squad should be in the dance, but be prepared for an underwhelming season. Like 22 wins and a play in game where we get blown out or something.

Include Oregon State in that list since they are part of the PAC that went behind the back of the MWC!

I had Kansas, Syracuse, Boise, and Oregon State as solid loses pre season. The season isn’t over and I don’t want to get too optimistic. My petty goal at this moment of time is to be undefeated against the traitor former MW schools. I don’t want to see any of those schools have any sort of success for the remainder of their time in our conference.

We need to crush the likes of Sdsu and run up the points. Don’t take your foot off the gas. Go for broke. I’ll be mad if we get into a power I and run power to burn clock. Keep trying to score on them. Shame them and their damn “metrics”.

The Alumni Association stopped charging members fees a couple years back. They don’t have the funds they used to. I’d happily pay a fee if it meant better amenities
I have gone to some of the events, and the cost of the events is way above the amount of food you get. Went to the bowl game last year and the event was very crowded and it was difficult to get food. Could have spent a lot less and eaten a much better meal somewhere else, but we wanted to be around other UNLV fans.
