UNLV Stays Put MWC

This, really hurts recruiting. I, just don't see the same recruits going to UNLV.
Can't, blame the student/athletes really.
Recruits: Who are Steven A. Smith, Paul Finebaum, and Dan Patrick?

SAS and Finebaum will stop talking about UNLV as of....well, Saturday night. They had to talk about it because it was topical news. Now it will be about Georgia/Alabama and Can Texas survive an SEC gauntlet and run the table.

If Jordan would have retired in 2024 after a threepeat SAS would have talked about it for 10 days, and then gone onto the next big thing. ESPN talking heads have ADD and will only talk about something until the next clickbait topic fall in their lap.

I don't see this as a hinderance to our recruiting. Maybe a tiny bit, but I doubt it. I do know that this will hurt Cromartie's ability to sign college talent for NIL deals. And good, because that dude is horribly inept.

Who's the next school to get poached.

The PAC HAS to shoot their shot with the AAC schools. It's the only way they save face in this round of realignments. They got the Traitor 4 to commit by promising a better TV based on the addition of the AAC. It didn't happen.

I think you're right, D'baby Bull. Texas State should be our next target and see what other Texas schools we can add. Then add NMSU and UTEP and call it a day.
My guess is the PAC 7 regroups and makes a much better pitch to either Memphis or Tulane, or both. Though, practically speaking, you'd think that those schools would like another 1-2 AAC teams to come with them, to help alleviate some of the travel issues, but I don't think the PAC wants to throw that much money around to help them leave the conference.

The Memphis AD spoke publicly last week and seemed to indicate that got a terrible offer from the PAC, but that saying no at that time doesn't mean no forever. Memphis would probably be their top target, so if they offered them the full 25 million (or whatever it ends up being) buyout, I could see them jumping.

The biggest issue with them would be the PAC's buyout. If Memphis ultimately wants to join the ACC or Big12, then it may not make sense for them to jump. The PAC has a pretty steep buyout, even for schools leaving for an autonomous 4 conference.

So it Memphis / Tulane are both in the waiting game to see what happens with the ACC, I'd guess that the PAC gives a much bigger offer to Texas State, and if they decline, the PAC settles for Sacramento State.

I thought there was just no chance after last season. He just didn't have the size. But he bulked up a lot after last season and seems even faster. The broadcast though he was similar to Luke Kuechly (sp?) which is both a great comparison and extremely high praise.
But I can see it now.
Size seems to matter less at LB in the NFL now as they have so many hybrids if you have speed you can get drafted at the position. But his speed isn't high end. I think the comparison to Luke (and why I brought up Bruschi) is they play faster than their speed because of how quick they are to read and react. He is a smart player with very good instincts. Plays hard all the time too.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

Theresa is getting into a desperate state of mind. At this point I don't think she cares how much of OSU & WSU money she spends. I guess OSU & WSU have no debt or major projects to invest that money into. Kudos to them. I still think they are out of their minds when they could still have a conference and have the two best funded athletic departments in the conference for decades by not spending a dime on expansion had they done a reverse merger. Dumbest thing ever just to appease some egos.

Few guys I haven't heard too much about

There are a couple of players that I was expecting to have a much bigger statistical impact for the UNLV football team this year that I haven't heard too much about. Any insights from those of you that are paying closer attention?

1. Tony Grimes - I know he's seen game action, but I guess I didn't pay too much attention to who was in the game at different times. I was looking at the stats and Grimes has had very few recordable stats. It's listed that he has 0 tackles or interceptions, and only 1 pass defended on the season. Has he not been getting a lot of playing time, or are teams just not throwing his way very much?

2. Casey Cain - I expected that he was going to be a much bigger target for the Rebels this season, with many defenses focusing on both RW3 and De Jesus, but he only has 1 reception on the season. Did Bradley pass him up on the depth chart? Or maybe it's just due to the lack of passing game prior to HMW getting the start. RW3 has 20 catches, De Jesus 7, and no one else with more than 3, so maybe it's just the lack of passing overall.

3. Ballungay - Similar situation to Cain. That TD that he got last game vs. FSU was scary with that ball floated up in the air for what seemed like about 10 seconds, but even with that, he only has 3 receptions this year. After the way he finished the season last year, I thought he'd get more looks this season.

Bad Day For The PAC12

I still can’t get over the name Albertsons Stadium. Was Piggly Wiggly Stadium taken?
The billionaire Albertson family run that state through their, obvious, national grocery store chain and multimple subsidiary massive potato operations in Idaho....and real estate holdings in Cache Valley Utah. I guess the name can be perceived as silly but there is a reasonBoise State rose from FCS to top 15 FBS program in a couple years.

Remember when 6 wins was a pipe dream?

Yep!

I remember debating with several football insiders who made excuse after excuse for coaches like Arroyo. The problem was always, UNLV made the wrong hires for football, up and coming assistants who had no idea how to run a program. Now we see that the former HC can get things headed in the right direction rather quickly because they aren’t learning on the job.

I remember when 6-6 was a pipe dream just 2 years ago!

Who's the next school to get poached.

We have a thread about potential MWC expansion targets. This whole thing is still super fluid so anything can happen.

Does the PAC circle back and make another run at Memphis with a better offer this time? I don't know. That exit fee is pretty steep. Can they make an offer that makes sense for Memphis to leave. Memphis has eyes/hopes on an ACC bid and have to figure they'd take an offer from. BIG12 if they came calling or ACC.

I don't think either conference wants to dip into FCS except as last resort.

Almost feels like a game of chicken now. Next move by either will set things off.

Anybody want to guess what piece/school comes off the board 1st?

My guess is Texas State..

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

They are only giving out half the PAC money use the rest to get two decent teams whether that be UTSA and Texas State or whoever. NMSU is a dead end.

So you're telling me there's a chance

Looking at the schedule... is there a game we wont be favored? BSU, maybe? I am not so sure we wont be a 1-2 pt favorite in that game. Oregon state? Maybe.. could see us being a small dog there.

Syracuse- we are opening up the favorite

Utah st - we should win

Oregon State - think this will be a battle could see us slipping up here looking forward to BSU, I hope not I will be there!

Boise - statement game for the MWC championship

Hawaii - we should win here...

SDSU - I want to crush them.. has to be a W

San Jose - they are always tough could be a tight game, but we will win.

Reno - we must continue to dominate them, big W

I may be riding the high right now, but as of this moment I dont think its unrealistic to count on double digit wins before the post season starts. I see 4 games that are going to be the toughest even if we went 2-2 in those if we win the rest thats 10 wins there. I dont think thats unrealistic.

Lets go Rebs!!!
That’s how I see it. Every game is huge at this point, just want to see the same team that showed up against Fresno do the same to Syracuse.

Side note… with the two on the road and on grass after that, maybe the first one being against an easier opponent than the following one is a good set up?

UNLV Stays Put MWC

If there is a sliver of truth to Sluka's claims, mainly if it was Marion that promised him something, then that may hurt their relationship. We all know Marion is looking for the next thing. Some may think it will be the HC here. But I wonder if this expedite's his departure at all?
At the very least there needs to be full communication with the staff and the collective at all times. All offers need to be vetted first.

Again, it is very possible that it was and Sluka is lying through his teeth, made up this story to justify asking for more money 3 games in.
I think I read somewhere that the NIL system is changing next year so that the university actually has control of it or something like that, not really sure.

Makes sense… they DO have “state” in their name.

But yeah… game of chicken.

I think it’s closer to a stalemate or even close to a checkmate by the MW. The MW is in a no lose situation, whoever gets picked up isn’t going to materially affect how the conference is viewed AND all of its teams, especially UNLV and AFA, will get substantial payments to help their programs.

The PAC however is losing pretty badly at this point, specifically the original 2. It’s already cost them a boatload of cash and they don’t have a conference yet. They can either make another run at Memphis for more cash, but Im not sure if they even paid the full buyout if Memphis would think it was worth it without at least one other team closer to them (read: more cash), or…

They add (insert name of crappy no name team here). No amount of spin is gonna polish whatever turd they add.

Would they be a better conference than the MW? Reasonably I’d say yes, but they most certainly won’t be the dominant G5 they thought they were going to be, and they burned a whole ton of resources to do almost nothing for themselves.

Frankly a merger is their best hope. Let the others back in with a penalty, and let the PAC 2 in at a cost of whatever bonuses were promised to those who stayed.

UNLV Stays Put MWC

It's a story all the sewer merchants like Steven A. and Clay Travis can yank it over for a few weeks. Then nobody will remember.
Let's see if it's brought up again on national media. I think us crushing Fresno, along with whatever the new 'controversy' is, will switch people away from us.

That being said, I don't mind being the "Sinners" again. Tark's teams didn't hide from it. Barry should embrace it!
