Washington State loses HC

Historically our data looks bad. I would imagine that most most media companies don't want to commit to big 5 year payouts due to 1 or 2 good years
You'd be surprised. It works both ways though. They'll pay for the hot ticket now rather than what was the hot ticket 5 years ago.

It does go both ways. The Pac 2 futures are not nearly as good as their past, hard to extrapolate.
That being said consistency trumps everything. I think right now UNLV looks like a pretty safe bet, especially after our new hire. But even back a couple games of the season when the move was announced our metrics weren't that great.

Well our interim HC for the Holiday Bowl is a goddam mutt (uw husky). As if it couldn't get any worse.......

I can't go into details, but my last major media company I was working for was looking at certain football futures. I built the dashboards for gathering API "metrics" from our live streams. I can say the numbers don't look great for certain conferences. I am a few weeks removed from that company, and the data set I had in my mind is already stale. That is just one company though, every media company does the calculus differently.

But to the fickle nature of media, in the same day we went from an all hands email about how great we did in the superbowl smashing every "metric" we had laid out with record profit; to an hour later getting a notification about pending layoffs due to changes in the economy. Media moves fast. The Pac numbers being slow to come out is strange.

That sucks. Per On3 their recruiting class was a lot better than ours. Per the ranking.
That is because they had a lot more recruits after UNLV lost 5-7 to Odom, and there are also 3 UNLV recruits that currently do not have a ranking which artificially lowers the class ranking. Look at the top 10 and UNLV has far better players. UNLV has multiple 5.6 and 5.7 ranked players, Wazzu has zero 5.7 ranked players.

No. I saw the rankings before Odom departed. They and OSU were both ranked ahead of us. We were ahead of BSU as well.

And true the rankings have to be adjusted now when coaches leave and commits bail.

I read the same rankings, and while Oregon State was ahead of UNLV, Washington State wasn't. On 247 UNLV has an average ranking of 85.23 with 14 recruits (this includes 2 unranked players), and Washington State has an average of 84.81 with 23 recruits.

He had to do this because Wazzu is sinking. Just find it funny that he was speaking on Mateer and how money swayed him and how broken the system is and now he is gone a week before their bowl. Have to do whats best for you, coach or player.

Norvell makes more than BSU's Danielson. ($1.8M vs $1.1M) Think Danielson will take our call? Of course I bet his salary doubles here pretty soon. Triples if they win a playoff game.
No offense to your fan base, I know you're one of the good ones. But they shouldn't be surprised. Your coach was placed into a no win situation. He got his team ranked, and all he had was a pay cut pending to look forward to. I'd probably leave too.

BSU's extra pay was between them and the MWC. I can't imagine they could hornswoggle a "Boise bonus" in the PAC. Times have definitely changed.
Did you miss the part where they keep 50% of their CFP payouts and the the rest of the payments split for all. That provision is only added because Boise thinks it's going to dominate the conference and make CFP on regular basis. No one else would argue they're in that position when they all chose to leave. That's worth 3 million a year. Same goes for basketball which is why they were able to get Gonzaga.

That is going to guarantee that the new PAC will turn into the have and have not conference where a couple of teams will stay at the top and the rest will tread water.

It’ll also guarantee a lot of crying and bickering from that conference. You’re basically giving more money to Boise and Gonzaga, while simultaneously being Wazzu and Oregon States bitch.

And SDSU... the tournament credits payout structure was specifically created for those 3 teams. It hurts teams like CSU, Fresno, WSU that will struggle in this conference, especially if they add Memphis and St. Mary's.

I keep seeing the numbers rise for the PAC on Rivals, I think they will have a hard time even matching the media contract that Memphis currently has, and will be surprised if they even come that close to $10 million per year.

$10m is a lot for the current footprint of the Pac. Boise wanted to stop carrying dead weight, only to find itself still carrying dead weight.

It’s been noted a thousand times on this board, but the PAC should have just stuck with the MWC merger. So much simpler. Or if they felt being selective was the best path then they should have made offers to the top FB & BB schools that they simply couldn’t refuse. But the way they did it, man, way to F it up.
