He’ll we’d probably have been in a P4 long ago just by the sheer weight of MBB.They do. And they worry mightily about them.
Had they not, we’d have 6 more NCs in hoops.
“The parties indicated a hope that the conversation could lead to an expanded relationship.”A representative for a local casino mogul reached out to UNLV officials Wednesday with an offer to pay the reported asking price of former quarterback Matthew Sluka.
But the conversation didn’t go far.
Sluka announced late Tuesday his intention to redshirt the remainder of the season over his belief that the school had failed to fulfill a verbal commitment to pay him $100,000. UNLV has disputed that claim.
On Wednesday, Circa CEO Derek Stevens and vice president of operations Mike Palm decided it would be in the best interest of the community to do their part to help UNLV during a historic football season.
So Palm reached out to UNLV with an offer from Circa to pay the money and keep the Rebels’ starting quarterback on the team.
“Derek and I talked about the situation and thought it would be worth it for $100 thousand to keep the Rebels’ playoff hopes alive,” Palm told the Review-Journal on Thursday.
Palm said he was told almost immediately there was no chance of such a deal being worked out, as Sluka had already left the program and the relationship appeared to have soured.
A university source confirmed the phone call took place.
Hajj-Malik Williams is expected to replace Sluka at quarterback, and bettors are backing the sixth-year transfer at Circa. UNLV is a 1.5-point favorite over Fresno State in Saturday’s game at Allegiant Stadium after the Bulldogs briefly were favored when news broke of Sluka’s departure.
“After seeing the number move back up, maybe it’s Hajj-Malik we should have been focused on,” Palm said.
The parties indicated a hope that the conversation could lead to an expanded relationship.
This is the article. Where does it say Derek Stevens or his companies haven't invested in UNLV sports in the past?
Good because I read this for the articles!
Could have also been because the offer Sluka was asking for was a violation.Could have been an empty but “feel good” offering from them. A little pub doing something “good”. How would had been known unless they reached out to media?
Heretic....THIS!!!
In'n'out, is too salty for me.
Good because I read this for the articles!Chunky Asses....
No, more like Eye of the Beholder on the Commodore 64 or Choplifter on the VIC 20.I don't think UNLV is playing 3D/4D anything. Maybe playing Mega Man II with the Game Genie. Can we all agree on that?
THIS!!!First order of business is to get it in writing for the future from the BOR that UNLV and reno can go their separate ways in conference realignments. I don't want to hear that nonsense come up again.
If any University should understand optics it UNLV.I’ve never given a sht about people I don’t know or don’t care about think about me … just the way I am. And I’ve always felt the same way about UNLV.
I do understand that optics are very important to most people though. I don’t care about them. I just don’t. Give me an ahole coach that wins, I don’t care if he’s an ahole. F the kumbaya optics.
It's funny how badly they F'd it up. Intentional sabotage couldn't have been much worse. If they were smart they should have invited enough members day one to dissolve the MWC and instead saved the departure fees to pay more to the 4 AAC schools to leave. Then you have a hell of a conference with TV money better than either conference is getting now. This really is all somewhat moot what WE think the market values are.
The things that matters is what THEIR media partners value these schools. They are writing the checks. They are looking at the data, they are making these decisions.
I believe every move has been made under the guidance of their media partners. This has been reported. According to them we are at best 5th in the current MW.
I don't think any team in the current MW is worth more than the PAC 2. At least not to their partners. Now the usage of their infrastructure probably plays a role in all of this.
But I think many of these numbers were legit. I do think it was 12 mil with the AAC 4 and with Gonzaga.
I think if UNLV was #8, then the deal would have been 8-10 per team. I don't think the swap of the AAC 4 with with new MW 2 would swing the per team payout by more than 33%.
Again re alignment doesn't happen without TV partners. They are driving the bus. I think all deals are made because of this.
that wasn't actually baby oilAnd a moving van filled with baby oil.
OG NESSSSSI was addicted to megaman …. But on Nintendo 1, of course.
And a moving van filled with baby oil. Those left with USC & UCLA. Sorry
Definitely. Hajj already has the confidence of the locker room. It wasn’t a mistake that people like Ricky White posted support. I want us to punch out against the traitor schools so I can bring a “metrics” sign. The difference betwen UNLV and Campbell games is that he will have two All American receivers to pass to along with some top notch transfers. I wonder why Sluka couldn't pass, or was he too busy county his money?
