We should have paid him

His NIL Value was between $ 200K and $ 300K. ( See Below) His family says he was promised $ 100K. He came here because he didn't need to be here for spring ball and other schools offering more required a spring enrollment. According to his family he started asking where his money was as soon as he arrived. Also he supposedly asked multiple times for his $$ and was put off. ( Family has dates for each ).

Does anyone really believe he came here for nothing or for $ 3000 a month? Does anyone believe our collective did not know his unrest was simmering? Does anyone really believe he decided to shake us down out of thin air? ( Kid has no criminal history or history of bad acting. Family has no negative history) Eight out of ten National Stories say we suck. The story is not just Sports related - it was on the TODAY show. Does anyone believe this won't impact recruiting?

The second time he asked the collective they should have gotten down to the facts and if there was ANY possibility he was promised money he should have been paid.

OK I feel I "little better" if this is true.

So you're not talking market, more footprint and penetration. There's some venn overlap but they're not the same thing--I know it's been a few decades since I took a media related course, but my umbrage stems from you using the wrong term. I think i disagree that we have the 7th of 8 footprints this season, but we're definitely in the bottom half.

Fresno State has multiple games with under 100k views (buoyed by the game @ Michigan) (For the rest of the schedule both Wyoming and New Mexico have out-rated them. Boise, apart from the Oregon game has been well behind us on their games this year. Utah State has multiple games below 100k views. Colorado State had a @ Texas and @ Colorado this year so their numbers look really good on average even when you got well below 100k views for their other 2 games. Oregon State and Wazzu are clearly better than us, but have already played the Apple Cup and the Civil War this season. When they hit MWC plays I'll be you 100 dollars that they don't even average 1.0 million views per game this year, much less the 2 million plus they managed last year.
This really is all somewhat moot what WE think the market values are.

The things that matters is what THEIR media partners value these schools. They are writing the checks. They are looking at the data, they are making these decisions.

I believe every move has been made under the guidance of their media partners. This has been reported. According to them we are at best 5th in the current MW.

I don't think any team in the current MW is worth more than the PAC 2. At least not to their partners. Now the usage of their infrastructure probably plays a role in all of this.

But I think many of these numbers were legit. I do think it was 12 mil with the AAC 4 and with Gonzaga.

I think if UNLV was #8, then the deal would have been 8-10 per team. I don't think the swap of the AAC 4 with with new MW 2 would swing the per team payout by more than 33%.

Again re alignment doesn't happen without TV partners. They are driving the bus. I think all deals are made because of this.

ABOUT THAT MONEY...

No one thinks they are getting 12 or 12.5 now? And sure Im guessing that is what was sold to the traitorous 4.

But they used "swing for the fences" from the beginning. I'm sure they knew that they would have a good chance at missing with their top targets. I am also sure the traitorous 4 knew this too.

I also don't think that they ever though we would say no.

But if we said yes and they stopped there for now at least. I think we would be looking at 8 mil per team minimum, maybe even 9 or 10.

So yes they are on plan D and not sure where to go. Didn't think they had a bidding war with the MW either. So yes I am sure they are a bit flustered right now.
The MW mission now should be to take in almost everyone they have interest in. Force them to pull in Montana. Their egos won’t be able to take it.

HUGE NEWS!

True. Texas State has also being doing the best. So yes I think they will show up when they are good, but also more likely to abandon ship to watch their "other schools".

Also UTEP isn't that far off, and arguable has more potential and a loyal fan base

18K is still pretty weak though better than the 15K they averaged a few years ago.

ABOUT THAT MONEY...

I have no doubt they’ll be valued more than the MW. Unless Gloria is successful in adding all of NIU, Toledo, NMSU, Texas State, Gonzaga, St Mary’s and GCU.

But there isn’t a prayer for the Pac getting to the $12.5m potential that they’re trying to sell to other schools. Not in its current form. I would be surprised if they made it to 10m. I personally think 6m I think is too high, but that wouldn’t surprise if it ended up there. I have no inside knowledge, other than knowing CBS sports won’t take them.

Ah yes Shenanigans..While adopted by Americans and widely used. It was brought to America by Irish immigrants and has Gaelic roots.

Gaelic is short for: Funny speaking Europeans who definitely don't speak proper American English.
I needed my wife (who is from Ireland) to translate when I first met her Father. But in comparison to the Travelers your typical Irish person speaks the Queen's English. If you ever saw Brad Pitt's character in the movie Snatch that is a Traveler.

We should have paid him

The team seems happy with the change. Hopefully the passing game improves and makes us a more balanced attack.
Secondly a full slate of college games this weekend will be the top story come Saturday. This wont be in the news cycle after this week,

If we paid an illegal payment and covered it up. It would become news in November - DQ from playoff or Bowl and a potential NCAA power play to make an example out of UNLV while allowing the SEC run rampant.

If Rebs keep winning and challenge for the Conference title- no one will remember Sluka by November. His name will become a synonym for quitter. "he pulled a Sluka" Get to the playoff and were the Cinderella story who overcame a greedy quitter.

HUGE NEWS!

The attendance for Texas State is by far better than the other two. UTEP is like our Silver Bowl days at its absolute lowest minus a thousand or two.

OK, things have settled. Now the first order of business...

He may want not to extend it, which I get.

But even still why not? If he keeps things up, he will have suitors. He seems to like it here, so I think he likes the idea if setting up UNLV if he were to move on.

But I think his number 1 would be to stay and be UNLV's coach in the Big 12 ( other than a big SEC school of course). Best case that happens in 2 years. The longer we get past the MW split the more difficult it will be. Unless somehow we become the new Boise. We get to the playoffs and we stay relevant based off of our name. But man, that is still tough.

But even then, he lived that life. And he was fired for being good not great at a job like that. His alma mater to boot. He may rather have very good money and security and autonomy vs ludicrous money with the threat of losing you job nearly every year.
If we offer him right now I think he would take it because you never know. Then someone can always buy him out. If we wait until end of season I think there is a good chance that is the end and he will have suitors that take him elsewhere.

HUGE NEWS!

Yeah..I'm not enamored with prospect of NMSU and UTEP but they make sense on a few levels.

This will sound back handed but. There just aren't a lot of other options.

Geographic sense.

We might need them to survive.
And who's to say with a little more media money they couldn't start improving some things. They would also be saving a little in overall travel expenses I think. (Could be wrong I didn't bust out a map and ruler to calculate)

Side note.

Their fan base on Twitter is almost in unison saying please God let this happen. Followed by 'But we are UTEP and nothing good happens to us.' 🤣
I feel a strange camaraderie with the Utep fans. Its like Utep is a step behind where UNLV was during the Sanford years; except without a string of great x receivers. It seems like they’ve suffered through the same decades of mediocrity we have; though without the flash of winning in basketball in the 90’s.
