I'd love if Scherer wanted to stay. I'd love to see what his defense could do if he came back. But since Odom and Mullen are friends, Odom might have had a side bar conversation with Mullen on who Odom was planning on bringing with him to Purdue.Odom has always given credit for al of the positives for the defense. He calls it "his" defense.
Though in these situations, who knows how much Odom was there for a part of the scheming, playcalling, etc.
That being said, I think Scherer is qualified to be a stand alone DC, he may have been that already.
If Mullen wanted to stay I would have been more than happy with that.

He or someone on his staff could have very well tried to recruit him. Though to your point, even if Mullen tried to recruit him and if there is an established relationship; there is no way its to the same level with the student/mentor relationship that Odom has with him.

I'm guessing Odom didn't give him a chance at Purdue but, I'm not sure. We will see him on the sidelines somewhere in the near future.
With Zach Arnett coming in as the Defensive Coordinator I think that will help. He has been in the SEC with a nationally ranked team. I am sure he can put together a great list of potential players for CDM.I always thought the best UNLV could do was maybe win 6-7 games, if not no big deal there’s basketball season. Someone says 11 wins back then and you’d think they are smoking crack. Not the case anymore, 6-7 wins would be a disaster probably now that the standard is set.
11 wins and a bowl win is incredible. 20 wins in 2 years is even more so, CDM has to keep the train rolling next year and bring in even better and more talented players to get to that next stage.
They're saying the same about us in BB.While I do not want unr to beat UNLV, I wouldn't mind if they improve to help the overall MWC rating!

It is a shame we can’t keep him.
Edit. Yes, the belt was the game trophy. Woodard and DeJesus received individual traditional trophy's for offensive and defensive players of the game.Eh, it was also a belt for the game trophy
Jacob DeJesusI wasn’t paying attention who won the belt from Gronk?
Agree! He was excellent at adjustments. When you think of how much better our defense played in the second half of games this year. It is a shame we can’t keep him.
