11 wins with qbs that are probably in bottom 25% as far as throwing

Except Hajj is a Super SR and Maiava was a freshman with room to learn and grow. His int number likely comes down when he's not pressed to do as much to win games. His situation at USC wasn't great this year and he was pressed to try and make plays. Hajj knew he didn't have to make a play in most situations. We had incredible field position thanks to our special teams play or defjense. In games where we didn't get those plays, he struggled to move the ball. You give Maiava that defense and I agree, we're talking CFP right now.

So it's ok to bring up how Hajj benefitted from the defense gifting him short fields. Seems fair to say Maiava's penchant for turnovers could gift opponents short fields and easy scores no?

Yes I think Maiava's the better QB but I don't think our records different. Maybe we beat Syracuse but we might have lost to Kansas because Maiava throws 3 picks.

I will say with Mullen at HC I would want Maiava. I think he might be able to clean up the picks.

Not to pile on your woes but without the money you had coming in from the real pac, it’s going to get a lot harder moving forward. Enjoy an 8-win season now.
I would like to see an accounting for what we have done so far with our windfall. But that won't happen. The Pac-2 is tapping it bigtime just to fund our FY2024 and especially FY2025 deficits, we know that. Remember that our windfall includes $50M/year this year and next for the Rose Bowl contract, NCAA BB payments of $10M (?, +/-) for FY 25 and 26, and the few million in FBS dollars that the NCAA gave us out of pity. Minus the poaching fees.

Those numbers I posted were Maiavas when he was at UNLV, not his USC numbers.

CSU/USU suing MW over exit fees

A very good point here, but first…

You’re a smart person, I’m sure there are smart people in the new PAC as well…

A merged MW/PAC would, as a brand, be far superior and would no doubt help the profiles of its best teams. It would be clear and away the best G5 in my opinion and would force the rest of the country to pay attention. I mean you’d basically own the west.
When is the pac announcing their tv deal? Any due date for that yet?
.
the carrot they had to dangle for Gonzaga. If our friend @Loyal Coug1 is correct, the original Pac 2 teams weren't happy about that addition. Those were the 2 schools driving the realignment bus, both created sweetheart deals to keep themselves financially ahead of the others.
Its because none of the new schools have any voting rights until they officially “join”
So, the Pac two made the decision to how the revenue was going to be "shared"? I would think there was more to that.
Replies in order:
epstein - "I’m sure there are smart people in the new PAC as well". Well that makes one of you. :)
bcvegas - "When is the pac announcing their tv deal? Any due date for that yet?". I dunno. It would probably help if we actually had an FBS-qualified league, wouldn't it?
Masked - I think most if not many delusional Cougs (no idea what the Beavs think, they are all high on legal mushrooms there in Oregon) liked adding Gonzaga. Not this Coug. We sold out bigtime, and will rue the day. Gonzaga will keep all the coin they make on non-con games, then get to keep half of their NCAA BB allocations, then (I guess) share in whatever our pathetic FB media rights bring in? Boy what a sweet deal for the rest of the Pac.
Masked, in WA and Meister - I believe that the traitorous MW 5 have some voting rights. I thought that included new membership offers. IIRC, the Pac-2 held on to all rights in terms of keeping our dwindling windfall to ourselves. Which makes sense.

17 td’s 10 INT’s Maiava
19 td’s 5 INT’s HMW
HMW had less yards and completion percentage was a few points lower, but had more td’s and less INT’s when it’s all said and done, those are the numbers that matter. Also HMW had 6 more rushing td’s than Maiava.
HMW didn’t play 3 games so he would have added yards, TD’s, and INT’s (I think that maybe one or two INT’s which would still keep him below JM).

Thanks. My Cougs played their hearts out. When you lose your HC, both Coordinators (yeah our DC was fired), 2 other coaches, your starting QB, RB, 2 WR's, both starting DT's, etc. you are at a disadvantage, Then today I find out that our starting CB, Hall, (yeah the guy that got picked on and burned the entire game) tweeted out BEFORE THE GAME that Ole Miss had extended an offer. $5 sez that got pulled back after that performance.

So now we have no coach, no media deal, no 8th member, who knows how many guys are entering the portal today (last chance). But, as our Commissioner said a couple of months ago, we are "swinging for the fences". I guess the backstop counts as a fence?

And when I tell my Coug brethren that "I told you so" about not doing the reverse merger, and hiring a shit Commissioner and woefully inadequate AD? Crickets. 4 straight losses to end the season. So glad it is over.

@Loyal Coug1 Man that was rough to watch. Sure it would have been closer if there wasn't the mass run to the portal. You have my sympathy.

Of the two yes.

Not sure if he's considering UNLV and it's odd he hasn't followed Odom considering how much Odom praised the guy.
Might be weighing if he has a shot at the NFL now, or if he wants to do another year dealing with classes/ a chance of getting injured again. He had a lot of career highlights early in the season, then I believe he was playing hurt the rest of the way. Tough place to be in when your end goal is the NFL, and he might not have done enough.

Hard to say really to your points but Hajj did have the worst turnover of the year with that crushing pick 6 vs Boise. I think we would be in the CFP but who knows.

We all do it, we tend to remember gaffes more. But it's not like Maiava didn't throw some that cost Rebs against Kansas in the bowl game.

I'm not suggesting Hajj is a better passer than Maiava, he's not.

But I don't want to read about Hajj's completion percentage and people not realize it's about the same as Maiava's.

Numbers don't tell the whole story but can't ignore them completely. Maiava turns the ball over at a pretty high clip. I think that over the course of the season it's bound to cost you a game. Flip side his arm likely wins us one. So ultimately a wash.

You would think that the USC v Texas A&M game would have had a good crowd, but around 26K isn't exactly filling the stadium. It would have been nice if UNLV could have played in that bowl game instead of a Wednesday bowl in LA. I believe we could have had a much better crowd at the game.
All these bowl games need to partner with the local hs football teams/athletic depts and let kids sell tickets at discounted prices as a fundraiser to fill these half empty bowl games. Teams get fundraising money and bowls get extra butts in seats.

I would prefer Catalon given the choice 😀
The way the transfers are going, I think we are replacing significant losses with very capable players.

I think we upgraded at QB.
Equal replacement (size wise) at OL.
Kept a good RB and brought in a capable one (I’m willing to admit a downgrade from what we lost, though).
A same size TE that we utilize more, hopefully.

If all that is true I'm surprised boise let the zags share in the "media revenue" package. It would seem that boise and the zags gave a nice sucker punch to the other schools.
That was SDSU and an attempt to save face after AAC teams said no. They wanted a stronger conference basketball wise to insure they get at minimum an at large bid each year, and the 50% credits + full media rights was the carrot they had to dangle for Gonzaga. If our friend @Loyal Coug1 is correct, the original Pac 2 teams weren't happy about that addition. Those were the 2 schools driving the realignment bus, both created sweetheart deals to keep themselves financially ahead of the others.

Very self-centered deals for BSU and Gonzaga. Good point.

I stopped following after a while since nothing official became announced. Isn’t NIU (I think that’s the school) announcing their decision to join or decline MWC in January?

When is the pac announcing their tv deal? Any due date for that yet?

The middle two paragraphs weren’t directed at you, Meister, just asking the entire crowd in case these points are already known.

I don't know, the flipside is the run game takes a pretty significant hit.

Not to mention for all their faults Hajj and Sluka didn't turn the ball over much. We didn't gift teams a lot of extra possessions or short fields with turnovers.

Maiava puts the ball in danger. A lot.

I don't know if our record is much different..
