If that's the argument, it seems like you could design it in such a way that it accomodates 65000 now, but could be expanded to get to 80000 in the future as needed.Would be a reach regardless of the situation. But i hear that the boosters are mostly in agreement of the need and for it to be a domed stadium. Where the arguments are starting is on how big this thing needs to be.
65,000 would be just fineIf that's the argument, it seems like you could design it in such a way that it accomodates 65000 now, but could be expanded to get to 80000 in the future as needed.
Heinz Field in Pittsburgh is around mid 60's so we don't need a Jerry's World.65,000 would be just fine
Yes. We weren't a consideration before but this would open up some conversation.Medical school and nfl caliber stadium would be a strong pac 12 argument.
80K is just too much IMHO. Yes it would make us 3rd or 4th in size in the PAC 12 and Big 12 but 65K would also make us 4th in the PAC 12 just ahead of ASU who reduced their capacity down from 71K to 64K and 3rd in the Big 12 behind the whorns [100K] & Sooners [82K].80 K seats may be way more than UNLV needs, but how likely would it be to cause a bidding ware between the Big12 and Pac12. UNLV would likely have the nicest stadium in either conference and definitely one of the biggest.
That's cool. I hope you didn't take my reply as an attack. Jus sayin' was all.I am not saying we have any real chance on getting 80K, I was just making an observation.
Yup. The most important thing to the Raiders, and probably to the Casinos if they are smart, will be the number, size and quality of the luxury boxes.65k and very nice > 80k and cheap. We're trying to make sure the Raiders leave the ghetto in Oakland.
Give me 55K and pack em' in every game. I'd rather have fully sold out venue any day rather than chance lower occupancy numbers. Plus, sold out venues are less inexpensive (put the extra money into making it the most state of the art), noisier, and just more fun to be at.
It shouldn't be a problem. It's not at other multi-team stadiums now. Plus, all the way back to when the Raiders were in LA sharing USC's stadium, I don't recall any Raiders signs being up when USC was playing.IF the raiders come to LV and share a stadium with UNLV, I hope the stadium doesn't get branded with raiders logos all over. It will be on the UNLV campus and I would hope it has UNLV's name on it.
Interesting read. Some of the numbers I would peg as overly optimistic. However, the fact that UNLV uses the stadium for football for free is nice. I was surprised to see the numbers on hotel taxes. We are way below many major markets at 12% which means there is definitely room to grow. I guess that, aside from the missing funding model, the only real question is the makeup of the new CCSA.
You guys think they will be able to incorporate both the Raiders and UNLV color schemes, in a cool but classy way? It worries me that UNLV may not be represented well enough.
Also, who will own the stadium?
The Raiders asked Beckham to be at the meeting. I don't even think Beckham brought up MLS, he did bring up international soccer being played here tho.One other thing- I believe Davis is sincere about bringing the Raiders here. Beckham, on the other hand, I think is a carpetbagger- he was only there to cynically use this meeting as leverage against Miami regarding his MLS franchise. MLS has already rejected LV as an expansion destination.
Yup, Thanks Moses. The Sands Corp. & Davis, just as I suspected. UNLV gets to plays their games in the stadium for free and won't sharein any of the revenue generated outside of the UNLV football games. This is stupid. Why would we ever accept this deal. Kick Adelson to the curb and work the deal with Davis and keep control of the stadium. The Revenue generated could repay any extra notes needed and could fund UNLV for years to come.
