Mullen

A lot of moving parts with Mullen. However, would UNLV even have a legitimate shot with Mullen with out the $25 million signing bonus and agreement to stay in the. MWC? I don’t think so. Especially when the G5-PAC 2 expected UNLV to pay the hefty MWC exit fee to join the G5-PAC 2.

Or the more likely scenario that we’re being leveraged. Hope that’s not the case (again).
If it was leverage I suspect that someone would have mentioned that “such and such school” is also interested in him.

Sounds like the leverage he’s using is to get the largest commitment possible from the school for the program. And god bless him for that.

I guess SDSU didn't meet his metrics 😂Let's go!
F sdsu and their metrics. The fudged the stats, misrepresented and morons took it hook like and sinker. I guess I shouldn’t blame SDSU so much, maybe more blame should be placed on the recipients of the info that didn’t question what had to look faulty.

The Pac didn't invite SDSU because of football. They needed someone to entice Gonzaga and that's why they're keeping tournament credits. They're football program had a blip of success and that justified adding them, plus Boise and friends knew they would jump at any chance to leave MWC

They shouldn't count on that money because that is absolutely not a sure thing.

The first bonus is dependent on poaching fees that could be thrown out entirely from a lawsuit, and the other extra money is based on exit fees that haven't been negotiated yet.

I would think that this is relying heavily on outside money to fund all of this.

Even if we do get everything that is promised to us, we won't get it until the beginning of the 2025 school year, and Harper's press conference was even later. We also don't know what the new media contract truly is. UCD isn't helping the cause that is for sure, it probably takes money away TBH.

It’s done. The $25 mill is done and I will leave it at that. Brilliant move by Harper! Set the financial foundation for hiring the new coach.

Mullen had a really bad time at Fla. Hope he's had time to recharge.

"Dan Mullen's tenure at Florida ultimately failed due to a combination of factors including declining recruiting, a perceived lack of accountability, excessive loyalty to underperforming assistant coaches, particularly defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, and a failure to adapt and address mounting issues as the team's performance significantly dropped, leading to a loss of confidence from both players and fans.

Key points about Mullen's downfall at Florida:
  • Poor Recruiting:
Critics pointed to Mullen not consistently securing top talent, which impacted the team's overall competitiveness on the field.

  • Defensive Struggles:
The Gators' defense, particularly under Todd Grantham, was consistently criticized for poor performance, yet Mullen was reluctant to make changes.

  • Lack of Accountability:
Mullen was perceived as not taking enough responsibility for the team's declining performance and failing to address key issues effectively.

  • Coaching Staff Loyalty:
Some saw Mullen's unwavering loyalty to certain assistants, even when they were not performing well, as a major contributing factor.

  • Negative Attitude:
Mullen's demeanor and perceived lack of adaptability to changing situations were seen as detrimental to team morale." AI search.
Easy to say. They haven’t sniffed 10 wins since he’s been gone.

Money isn’t real. There’s zero consequences to running an athletic department in the red and no reward for running in the black. Run up the credit card and wait for the subsidies the university receives to flow back to the athletic department. We need to spend like there’s no tomorrow.

Didn't know Saccenti was involved. I'll have to send my boy a TY note this morning.
Correct me if I’m wrong, was Harper’s press confence about Odom’s departure at the Las Vegas Bowl media day? I remember reading something about the press conference starting 30 mins late and then Harper did his announcement before LVB execs made theirs.

That seed for Mullen was planted that day. See what happens when you show up to work?

That man is become statute worthy.

I'd have to imagine after 2 years out, he's lost touch with HS recruiting. I wonder how many of his former Florida guys are left that want to hop into the portal to play for us.
