Mullen

Harper is the man...he seems relatively humble in comparison to other AD's after the Odom success. Many would be walking around campus roping cattle with their hog after that. He seemed more focused on keeping him than pounding his chest. Now he has two reasons to do it.

What I like about this hire, even more than him being a good coach, is it seems like Mullen has a vision for what UNLV could become in college football and what it needs to do to get there and the process has already started with the agreement for revenue sharing with players, increased NIL commitment, etc.

As good as Odom was, and the potential he saw in UNLV, I don't think he would have had enough pull to make big changes like that.

And to all those whining about not going to the pac... This is probably only possible because of the decision to stay.

Marion being here as OC under Mullen, I could get behind that but he is likely gone and I’m okay with that also!
His teams scored a lot of points against better teams without Marion.

I’m more concerned with D.

The guy has had high level QB’s and offenses. I expect him to be a QB magnet. If Ochoa is as good as we have heard, he has to be excited (or not, and will leave).

I hope he retains Scherer . Could help keep some of the recruits that make the CUT. LOL! Plus i think he did a great job overall.

"The two sides were in active discussions late Wednesday night, with the deal being finalized Thursday morning, sources familiar with the situation said. UNLV was able to entice Mullen with an increased name, image and likeness budget in addition to revenue-sharing payments for players starting next season.

UNLV is a member of the Mountain West and is not legally obligated to participate in the upcoming revenue-sharing model that will be enforced within the four power conferences beginning as early as July 1, but the Group of Five school is prepared to pay players via a smaller revenue sharing model, a source briefed on the discussions.. In addition, the NIL payments outside the revenue-sharing model is expected to more than double to a total of several million dollars."

He has truly done a tremendous job! Hope that he gets rewarded for all of his hard work and foresight.

That alone just dumped the rest of the MWC/Pac in the dust of UNLV football when it comes to recruiting!

This is why being located in Las Vegas is a huge advantage for UNLV over any G5 team:

Mullen was recommended to his new school by Las Vegas Bowl executive director John Saccenti because of the strong relationship between the two, according to sources.

IF our HC gets great results and if he replaces CKK with a equal or close to the name recognition of CDM then he is gone. Maybe with just the hiring of CDM if he wins bigly!

UNLV has inherent advantages against the MW/PAC teams with recruiting. Florida not so much. Though I would imagine their resources for this stuff in in the upper 3rd of that league. UNLV is at the top.

If we can tap into Florida for recruiting purposes? Look out!

I think above anyone you make an effort to keep Shibest.
Shibest is close with Odom, he’s going to Purdue, as well as Scherer. I’m not sure Marion leaves for Purdue but he’s probably leaving for Oklahoma State as well as Coach Vice (alum of OSU). There’s a small possibility Marion stays, I think to be coaching under Mullen and kind of expanding the playbook and tweaking the playcalling would do Marion a lot of good. Going to Oklahoma state would be a great move too. He’ll be fine either way.

Guys like Hunkie and Del are probably staying, they are UNLV guys to their core and embedded in the community. Mullen will need those guys to be his eyes and ears locally.

I’m not worried about staffing, you know Mullen is probably the most connected HC we could have hired and he would not come if he wasn’t able to hire some guys.

Mullen is the best hire on paper that we have ever had. J Rob had a natty, but he was older, definitely past his prime.

Mullen has had very recent success and is right in his prime at least age wise.
Mullen is the best hire since UNLV hired Jerry Tarkanian.

That’s not an exaggeration from me. Maybe we’re all a little shell shocked (we’ve witnessed coaches like Mullen walk away in the middle of negotiations) to understand what this hire means but to me this is an obvious hire if you intend on getting to a P4 conference like the Big12.

Odom put the program in a position that someone like Dan Mullen could come in, be offered the job, demand some changes and get those changes. I agree that Odom mightve been able to increase some of these things, but Mullen immediately does so and opens the door to just skyrocket UNLV

Does anybody know when Mullen gets on campus and starts? Need to get going with recruting especially the kids on the team Mullin wants to keep

Solid assessment my only caveat I have, how long can we stay in MWC without getting an invite to the Big 12. You know how life is. You reach one summit you want the next one and so on and so on. Upward mobility a must and I think you are right in saying we needed an influx of cash. If we are to navigate like some Euro league soccer team, up the chain of leagues to the ultimate P4 or super conference. We need cash, fans and results. 3-5 year plan maybe?
