Mullen has a ton of contacts and despite not being in coaching, guys who want to stay in high level coaching stay in contact with the right kind of people and players. Especially in todays NIL era.

You tell me you want to ignore every blue chip recruit that comes out of Bishop Gorman? Odom made strides in the community specifically because he cared about making relationships with all of the high schools in town.
On top of that, its not necessarily true that every kid in HS will want to come play here, but its much easier to get them here via the portal if there is already an established relationship.
That would be great, but I'm guessing Odom will be looking to take them with him to Purdue.
Keep Hunkie, Logo, the strength coach, and the O line guy.

Yeah, because they haven't been watching him on TV every weekend? I'm sure they are connected to him and would jump at the opportunity to talk to him. It's mostly about the portal these days, but the high school world will very much know who Dan Mullen is.
When I work the football season, I don't pay attention to espn/ any sport outside of UNLV at all. I can't say that's the same for kids, but between games, practice, and school I imagine there isn't much time.

That is what his staff he is hiring is for. They are the ones with the connections. They are the ones in the homes, in the schools, at the practices, on the phone, etc. I wouldn't worry about him being out of football for 3 years in terms of recruiting.
Ignore is extreme. Just making the point that I think portal is more important than HS recruiting in our current situation.
I think the portal is more important too … but you still need to find a couple dozen that you can keep for multiple years …. And I agree, UNLV has done well with Gorman and other locals and UNLV is a buzz with them right now. Talk to any player …

This is true, but he has to keep up what Odom did in regards to recruiting Vegas. Too much talent here to let go like Arroyo did. Just look at this season's team. I can think of 3 local kids off the top of my head that played huge roles (Burrell, Grimes, Chittenden), and I know others that are on the team. Keep those in roads with the local high schools. They paid huge dividends.

Odom had no issue recruiting, and Mullen is a huge step up from him, no doubt more of the locals will want to play at UNLV.
It will go from a buzz to a full on hurricane siren with the hiring of coach Mullen.
This is the greatest day in UNLV history since UNLV hired Tark. In terms of commitment and what it took to hire him. We went all in. Cant wait to see the results. If i was a woman i would be crying. JK. I think i shedded a tear or 2. IF they hype matches the results we will be in great shape.IT only gets better from here. More NIL , more seats sold , better players ,more eyes on UNLV and most important better wins against TOP teams.

Yep. I trust Mullen to make good hires, similar to how I trusted Odom. These guys have been there and done that, so whichever way he decides to go, I'm in.
I don't see how Marion stays. This is a different scenario than we had with Odom. For the most part, Odom gave Marion the keys.
Not sure I see that happening with Mullen.

Ok so I guess it is settled Odom did leave us in a better spot because no way we get Mullen without the last two years.
Marion is gone as is most of the staff. I hope a few hang around like Logo and Hunkie, but Mullen will bring in his own guys.
