SJSU vs Reno.

Who would have thought a year ago, SJSU could be positioning themselves for a bowl after a 1 win season. But here we are. Both come into the game 3-2. A win by either puts them two away from bowl eligibility with 6 games to play.

SDSU vs Wyoming

Both sitting at 4 wins and likely headed to bowl games regardless of the outcome. If Aztecs get this one they could be headed for a one loss season. Toughest games remaining are Fresno at home and Hawaii on the road to finish the year. Wyoming even with a loss is still in good shape for bowl with New Mexico, CSU and Reno still left all at home. Have to think they could go at least 2-1 in those three games.

Hawaii vs 16 Boise State

Big game for both teams. A win could get UH ranked. They would be 5-1 with two P5 wins and a win over a ranked Boise squad. Boise could make a push for a New Years day bowl. But have two really tough games left after this one. At USU and at BYU. Not to mention a conference title game, so it won't be easy.

Air Force vs Fresno State.

Bulldogs are sitting at 2-2 after two close losses to P5 teams. They really need this game, as they have a pretty tough road down the stretch with games against Hawaii, SDSU, USU and finish on the road at SJSU who could be fighting for bowl eligibility.

Well, it looks like the rest of the conference is getting better.

Must be nice
Isn't that the truth. Man, doesn't it seem like there should have been at least 1 time in the last 100 years where UNLV started a season hot? To me, it seems like the sometimes-random nature of sports, the hits-and-misses of recruiting, and the flukey way that schedules play out (you know, like scheduling big-name teams like USC and Northwestern... but those teams are actually garbage when you play them) would dictate that at some point UNLV would stumble upon a 4-1 start to a season or better. Nope we suck. Every. Year.

I looked back at the last 25 years of UNLV football, and here's how we've fared in the first 5 games of every season:
  • 0-5: 2 times
  • 1-4: 10 times
  • 2-3: 9 times
  • 3-2: 3 times (2000: LVBowl; 2008: 5-7 overall; 2013: Heart of Dallas Bowl)
  • 4-1: 1 time (2003: 6-6, no bowl ... this was the Brimmer/Wisconsin year)
Interestingly, Coach Sanchez has actually been 2-3 every year ....... until this year. Not a good look when you're trying to say that you are moving this program in the right direction.

We almost won that Northwestern game? That right there is a massive improvement over a Big10 team.

Scratching my head and wondering what you were watching. I was there and we were totally ineffective after the first quarter & 3 minutes. Biggest offensive plays were 2 pass interference calls in the 2’nd half.

Perspective Pete..

It was our closest loss of the season. Only 16...

It wasn't a good performance it was just less bad.

Air Force killing Fresno State right now.

Reno escapes with late FG over SJSU.

Rebs have a huge hole to dig out of but a win over Fresno and things start to get interesting. Cannot afford to come in and lay an egg...
