Booster money

Every coaching search centers on there being some unidentified pot of money that allows UNLV to punch over its weight. To hire a coach at 3 mil a year with a five year contract, requires 15 million dollars. If UNLV can commit to half of that, some booster or group of boosters need to guarantee the other 7.5 million. Not out of the question, but I will believe it when it happens. But I can see more hope for outside money to lure someone like Deon Sanders.

Television Coverage

Just came to my attention that our basketball game in San Diego is not on normal television. Not on Cox which serves the majority of Las Vegas. What a joke of a university. We are undefeated with a big game on the road and you have to jump through hoops to watch it. Shame on Eric Harper for not getting on top of this. It’s been happening for a long time. Soo small time. Disgusting and aggravating….

Future OOC

We need to dump five or six cupcakes and add a few solid teams. They don't need to be top 10 (although that couldn't hurt) but can't be bottom 200 and below.

I'm thinking play two of the top 5 CUSA, 2 of the top 5 WAC and two of the top five WCC. Continue to play a middling P-12 and toss in a decent Tourney and we should be there.

Our schedule could kill us come NCAA selection time and even if we make the tournament it could cost a seed or two.

Talking Shaka Smart vs Baylor

Shaka and Marquette smoked Baylor last night. The future defense as shown by Shaka and oft imitated in the Big 12 will be watched by many college staffs as they beat Baylor by 30 and doubled the score at most times in the game. Wonderful switching, pressure man to man including 3/4 press and amazing passing with a big man driving and putting many baskets in off the glass. Will be fun watching the Zags and Baylor and comparing to Shaka's team, a definite dark horse contender from the Big East/

Buyouts terms?

It had been mentioned that Arroyo would forfeit some of his buyout money if he were to take another job.

Is that the case with some of these recently fired candidates?

Herman's buyout over 15 mil, and Ed O's was over 17 mil.

If so that may be a hard sell, if they also would have to forest free money

To Anyone Upset About Arroyo

3 of his 5 wins this year came against teams with a combined 5-30 record and 1-23 conference record and lost to a Hawaii team with 1 division 1 win before hand. It might have been the easiest schedule of all time and he still couldn’t get to 500. UNLV has upgraded the program in many facets. We used to have two benches and their stadium nickname was the dust bowl. He’s gotten the same results as previous coaches, with much better facilities and salary for assistants. He won one game in 3 years against teams over 500 and it was North Texas. Truth be told, he should have never been the hire. He was going to get fired at Oregon as OC and held Herbert back. This is a good day. Now, I'm expecting UNLV to UNLV and probably miss on this next hire too, but Arroyo sucked and this program is in the same exact place it was 3 years ago.
