Dodd from CBS Sports

It appears to me after reading Dennis Dodd’s article that the current expansion by the PAC wasn’t thought out and more of a knee jerk reaction or desperation by the PAC 2.

This quote was insightful:

“Industry sources weren't sure which way forward the Pac-12 would take. They were sure almost unanimously that the new Pac-12 won't get much more than the current Mountain West deal, which is $45 million per year from current rights holders Fox and CBS. (TNT has a smaller deal for a handful of lower-echelon games.)”

IF REMAINING MWC TEAMS WERE SMART

They would discuss voting to dissolve the conference. There are technically only 7 teams as it stands with Hawaii being football only.

Here's why I think it would be smart for all parties involved. (And if there are holes in my theory feel free to tell me I'm an idiot).

Every team in the MWC should be looking for a new landing spot now.

There is no way the next media deal for the current MWC will match the last one with what was lost. There are no viable schools to poach to replace what was lost. The one school in the most trouble is UH.

So.

To avoid paying exit fees vote to dissolve the conference.

Here's where my theory probably hits some snags but...

Most if not all the schools could find a soft landing in CUSA. Assuming they want to expand. I believe CUSA would absolutely take UNM, UTAH STATE, WYOMING and RENO. I also think they would consider Hawaii football only. SJSU would be a solid addition getting them into the California market.

If they took 5 they get to 14. The biggest road block for Hawaii is travel cost. Not for them but the teams already in CUSA. They aren't exactly big money schools. This is why I think UH could be in a lot of trouble.

AFA would go to the AAC. I don't think there would be any hurdles here.

That leaves UNLV.

I don't believe the Regents will ultimately end up being anything more than a hurdle/minor annoyance with the whole Reno/UNLV tied at the hip nonsense.

The question then becomes does the PAC actually want UNLV?

I mean there's so many reasons to think they would. But it is possible they don't.

I'm going out on a limb that they would take UNLV. (I also believe Utah State might be a team they would consider oddly enough).

I also don't believe since they are football only Hawaii gets a vote.

Agree? Disagree?

Bye week, small stuff.

Other than McDuffie, just your typical, nagging football day to day aches and pains.

Halftime adjustments to D - nothing schematically. Line was getting spread, emphasis to break through the line, emphasis on the arm tackles with the DBs

UNLV was very confident they were going to win the game at halftime …

… they know and see the hoopla, it’s cool, but they don’t care.

It’s a game by game mindset, but also realize the potential now ….

The LETS RUN podcast arrives

Sup guys, The LETS RUN podcast is by a fan for the fans. Just want us to have more media presence online. Id always appreciate if you can like and share it. I haven't spent a ton of time on here before, but I will more going forward. The Lets Run podcast is also open to any UNLV fan that wants to come on and rant, its growing rapidly.

DM if anyone wants to come on

AAC - ACC

Many on the board see the AAC as a way to keep ourselves relevant. I agree it could work - but it's nowhere near automatic.

IMO, the ACC and their ongoing Lawsuit(s) / discussions with Florida State and Clemson are a player in the calculations that need to be considered.
See article below dated yesterday.

If the FSU/Clemson lawsuit continues there is a strong possibility Memphis and/or Tulane will not jump to the PAC any time soon. They would be foolish to pay exit fees when FSU/Clemson could bolt from the ACC and open space for them in that conference. The ACC currently receives a payout of over $ 40 million. It would degrade significantly without FSU/Clemson but not so much Memphis and Tulane wouldn't love to be a part of the conference. I see it in their best interest to wait and see.

If they don't jump, then the AAC will be at 14 schools. Their near term options would be stay at 14 or expand. If they choose to expand (and that isn't a given) AF would likely be their first choice for expansion. But all the discussions about AF is conjecture and there's been no statements from the AAC. It could just as easily be the AAC stays at 14 and decides not to take on the additional travel for AF and UNLV. Or it could be they take AF and decide on an additional Texas school or Eastern school instead of us.

This entire fiasco is conjecture, but I don't think an AAC birth is as obvious as many of us hope.

TV viewership

I keep seeing post where UNLV plays on a minor network and everyone points out how nobody watches them on TV, but when they get onto a major network, it doesn't appear that they do all that bad:

UNLV is currently in a similar position as BSU in the past, as being the underdog, which I think will help in the short run while building a better following. UNLV v Kansas has 1.32 million viewers on ESPN. The highest rated game had 6.6 million viewers (Georgia v Kentucky) while by the time you get to the eighth rated game, which was Notre Dame v Purdue, they had an audience of 2.28 million. Memphis v Florida State University, which was also on ESPN, has a viewership of 1.59 million. Oklahoma v Tulane had 1.39 million viewers on ESPN. Indiana v UCLA had 1.29 million viewers on NBC. UCF v TCU had 1.03 million viewers on FOX. It is nice to see that SDSU v California only had 0.938 million viewers on ESPN. New Mexico St. v Fresno State only had 64K viewership on truTV.

Oregon v Oregon State had 2.82 million viewers on FOX, but we all know that Oregon would have carried most of the weight in regards to viewership.

In past weeks:
Texas Tech played Washington State on FOX had 1.16 million viewers
Fresno State v Michigan on NBC had 2.56 million viewers
Colorado State v Texas on ESPN had 1.84 million viewers (I would be curious to see how UNLV would do in viewership verse a top 5 team?) - of course UNLV had 2.97 million verse Michigan last season.
Oregon State v Idaho State had 382K viewers on the CW
Texas A&M-CC v SDSU had 66K viewers on TruTV

In interesting comparison is when UNLV played Michigan before Michigan moved to the top of the polls:
Fresno State v Michigan on NBC had 2.56 million viewers this season
UNLV v Michigan on NBC had 2.97million viewers last season before UNLV was a top 25 team as they are currently.

I am saying that the network you play on has a lot to do with the ratings which is why in the past the viewership was so low for UNLV when they played most of their games on FS1, ESPNU, etc. I believe UNLV can easily go head to head with any of the other teams that are currently leaving the MWC as well as the two teams in the PAC. A lot of casual fans have an interest in seeing the GO GO offense and watching the new kid on the block!

Rebel Band

The Rebel football team is flying high and the marching band is keeping pace! They seem so much bigger, louder, with more flair and style. So much better than any year I can remember. I know it takes money and effort to accomplish this. Congratulations on us fans for being able to enjoy a great pregame, National Anthem and halftime show. BUT….the Rebel band would serve themselves a big favor if the would finally ditch the Black & Red uniforms (San Diego States colors) and went to a sharp Scarlet and Gray uniform. School colors… what a concept. We have had Black and Red for years. Enough is enough.

SOS

I guess Kent State have the toughest Non-conference schedule of off the G6

But...

Defense

The Kansas game was the weirdest game I ever watched. After Kansas took a 14-0 lead averaging 10 had a play, I was ready to change channels when the score reached 21-0. As the offense continued to stumble, the defense began to show signs of life. The insanity began at the end of the first half when UNLV’s offense looked like the Marx brothers trying to look like a football team as time ticked off the clock. Out of the chaos, Sluka tosses a TD pass😐

The defense plays great in the second half. Sluka

Two Weeks!

UNLV has two weeks to find a way to completely fill the bottom section and move up to the second deck. They need to make it a priority like they did for the MWC championship, but now UNLV has a #25 to put next to that marketing for tickets! Time to push the hotel/casino industry to get involved with purchasing of tickets in bulk for employees in the corner or upstairs.

How to increase UNLV's digital footprint

Someone had posted in another thread about recording UNLV's games, even if you're going, since that would technically show up in the media results. I think that's a great idea. Personally, I already have all of the UNLV (basketball and football) games set to record. However, if we could get a bunch of local residents to do the same, that could bump up the media numbers significantly. I mean, ideally, people would tune in and support UNLV, but this would still be helpful to the program.

So I thought I'd start this thread to throw out ideas of how to support UNLV in this digital age.

1. Cable - Set your TV to record all UNLV athletics events
2. Instagram - follow all official UNLV accounts, and interact with them. View the posts, like them, share them, etc.
3. X (Twitter) - same as on instagram

How can we get more 'impressions' and build up a bigger following than UNLV currently has?

ESPN ARTICLE DETAILING WHAT WENT DOWN

This pretty much explains how we got here.

And now it is Barry Odom's sworn duty to kick the @#$% $%@#$ @#$%& out of SDSU this year.

You'll understand when you read the quote.

UNLV was NEVER in the initial talks.

ALSO every school left should be able to dissolve based on lack of faith and ineptitude of commisioner.

You'll understand when you read this.

Threatcaster..

Remember that word..

Your head will spin.

…wasn’t the only reason.

Came across this article that says the PAC 12 decision to not invite UNLV was due in part to being tied to Reno, “but wasn’t the only reason”. Any idea what that means? They say after that they wanted to keep options open, but thought it could be more than that. Came from an “industry source” so not sure how viable the information is. Just thought it’s interesting.
