A Lot can change but..

While a BSU win would have elevated CBO’s stock with top programs, it also would have moved us a peg on the Big12 invite board. We’ve got to start winning some of these bigger games.
It takes a lot to get over that hump to "elite"... years of ineptitude still show up in programs trying to get a signature win or that next level W. We shot ourselves in the foot when we could've put the game away at times.
I watch Kansas and they did the same thing last night. Had KSU beat, QB tried to do to much, fumbles for no reason with 3 minutes left in game up 1...both just can't get over that next step of winning a really big game. when they do, eventually it'll be doing it consistently but it takes just feeling that "we can win this game" moment to do it.

Let’s get a big crowd out there!!

Not sure if this link will work but this was the best UNLV football game crowd I’ve ever been a part of (not including when a team rolled in with 25k of its fans like Wisconsin). And it didn’t seem like it was a bunch of curiosity seekers but folks coming out to really support the team. Even though we lost I have a feeling many of those fans will come back. Odom is doing such a great job. That atmosphere will help recruiting and provide further evidence to the Big12 that they should get UNLV into their conference before sooner rather than later.

Line ‘em up: Predictions and Game Thread Boise

The more time I’ve had to think about this game the more frustrated I am with the play-calling. It’s been brutal at the worst times. Red zone offense has just been very poor, no two ways about it, while the rest of the offense has become very predictable. I could understand it if we didn’t have other threats, but we have decent receivers (that’s an understatement for RW) and a very capable TE plus RBs who can get into the flat for quick 4-7 pick-ups. I don’t get it. Is HMW just not accurate in the short yardage passing game? If they don’t trust Hajj’s passing should we experiment more with Friel at times? Teams have figured out Marion’s offense and simply stack the box against the run and put a little pressure on Hajj, high percentage chance that he doesn’t hit a receiver assuming one is open. I’m beginning to hope that another program poaches Marion so we can get a better system in place.

Under Briles Baylor won 11 games twice and 10 games 3 times and were in and out of the top ten. They have solid booster support and the BIG12 is down right now after losing OU and Texas.

Baylor comes calling you absolutely are listening to what they have to offer.
It can be done, it's like Florida, they have 3 NC in the last 25 yrs, the other 70 yrs they are mid at best SEC. Big 12 is water down in football now without TX/OK, I listen but it's not great football school.
Having good coach at UNLV you will win, MWC smells like Vegas wash at silver bowl when you got perfect breeze, Holly weeeeze lol

Hard to say what’s going to happen. We’re in uncharted territory as a program. Either way, nobody will fault Odom for passing up a gigantic contract at Baylor or any other big school. Odom also knows he has an opportunity to create his own legacy here.

I think we get another year or two out of Odom to see if we can make it to the Big12.

I'm really hoping that Harper and UNLV legitimately feel a BIG12 invite is possible/in the works, otherwise you're right 1 possibly 2 years is the most we'll get out of him.

Two Plays

Maybe so but the last few games Hajj has made some critical errors on his throws. Almost lost to Oregon State because of his interception and lost to Boise because of a dumb interception before the half that put us behind the 8 ball the rest of the way. Turnovers have been a killer.

Next season will be interesting, I think unlv can do better than a Sluka/Hajj. Ochoa is a good prospect but we can do much better at that position.
But we didn’t lose!

And we lost because of a whole lot of things… poor OL play, bad play calling, no DL pressure at all and oh yeah Haj!

We are better with Haj, the other guy some of you still bring up is a QUITTER who was not accurate, period!

He will only be a freshman but if memory serves Odom's son had some really good offers? He must be pretty good? I imagine they will grab another QB from the portal.
I agree. Probably a portal guy. A lot likely depends on what the coaching staff looks like. If Marion goes, maybe Ochoa leaves also, depending on who the new OC is and system he runs

I think he throws a more catchable ball. But those decisions were really bad. Costly. Very costly. And those are the types of plays you get from freshman (Maiava had them), don’t expect them out of super seasoned guys like HMW.
That's how he was at Campbell vs good teams. Feasted vs bad teams but good ones had lots of picks and throwing into coverage or misreading defenses.

He was below 50% completion percentage!
I don’t know how anyone can say he was accurate, he couldn’t hit the ocean if he was on the water’s edge on the beach!

He overthrew a wide open Kaleo.
Why does it seems that UNLV offence only throw to Kaleo once or twice per game? Both Syracuse and BSU killed us with their TE crossing from right to left. Over and over.

Great game, Rebs

I think this might be the issue.

Our run game relies on a certain amount of deception. The OLINE is solid but not dominant especially in short yardage.

I think the struggles are more from 10yards in. We just can't lineup and smack people in the mouth. 1st and goal from the 4. Tried to run outside. Nothing. Threw quick slant ball off the receivers hands. Figet the third call.

Some of it is execution as well. If that slat is caught TD and we aren't talking about red zone struggles.

I agree I'm not crazy about some of the calls. On the flipside if guys make a play here and there it changes the narrative.

Absolutely hated the 'trick play'. Rebs were moving ball. Offense didn't seem like it needed any 'spark'.

Another execution vs play call, Hajj hits Ricky in stride with a lot of daylight in front of him, ball goes off his shoulder/hands. Offense got the look they wanted, great call execution just off. Next play Hajj throws a pick.
UNLV seems to reverts back into some low IQ play calling in the red zone. BSU blitz from the edges, run up the middle. Pound the shit out off that G spot in the middle.

Sluka had the arm and accuracy on those deep balls. Hajj had a couple good ones last night but teams are teeing off now because they don’t respect the passing game.

There will be some serious self scouting in this next week before the trek to Hawaii. Marion needs to figure out the red zone if this team is going to make a big run to close the season.
