Keeping Odom.

It is true that it is essentially a 2 league megaconference world.

Yes the ACC and the B12 are a notable step down.

But we are talking about UNLV here. We cannot concern ourselves with getting into the P2 leagues. It will not happen, at least not in the next 10 years.

B12 has a legit shot. And it would be a huge upgrade. Not just in competition, but more importantly in guaranteed media revenue. You need money to compete consistently at the highest level, and we don't have it.

The second part of that is that the B12 needs football teams, and that league is ripe for the taking (eventually). I think in terms of playoff potential UNLV in the B12 is much more reason to compete.

Oh yeah, it is the best basketball league in the country.

As for the Pac 12. It is out of the P4 whichever way you slice it, but it is a better league top down, by a significant amount, than the remaining MW. This year may not be obvious for that, but historically 100%. And yes they will be making more money than the "new" MW, even if they have to pay their own exit fees. They will be much more set up for success in football and basketball than the MW, and their SOS will be more forgiving with losses, much like we are benefitting from this year.

This isn't all moot.

#20 in the College Football Playoff Rankings

Nothing would make me happier than to see Alabama be left out of the CFP. But to hear the Miami AD complain about is laughable. They have beaten absolutely no one. What is their best win? By 7 over an 8-4 Louisville team? The best teams on their schedule besides them are Syracuse and GA Tech, both losses. They have no business being ranked higher than the 20s. Replace the name Miami with James Madison and the same schedule and results and that is where they would be.

National Signing Day

Seems really quiet right now with signing day tomorrow. Saw Brad Odom tweeted about 2 joining the program and Covington announced. Hoping tomorrow ends up being a good day even though team is prepping for Friday.

Need to check again but I think there have been 5 or 6 commits or guys reaffirming previous commitments over the last week.

Maybe (hopefully) quiet is good.

It’s been a very long road to get here. My fandom started in 1999, watching Jason Vaughn throw a pick and Randy Black blow up some receiver and receive a personal foul. The 2000 season was great and things were looking up, but 01, 02 and 03 were massive disappointments, outside of changing the course of the cannon and wins against at ranked CSU, at ranked Wisky, and BYU on the road. Jason Thomas’ being a heisman hopeful was unfortunately a chuckle, after someone yelled at commercial break “Jason Thomas sucks!” after his weak qb sneak at the Cox Pavilion, during a watch party for the opener at Arkansas.
Unless I’m forgetting anything, the win at ranked ASU was the only highlight of the Mike Sanford era, outside of Mike trashing the locker rooms after his canning or him biffing it at Iowa State. I guess it did generate two NFL coaches. Enter Bobby Hauck. 3 years and 6 wins later, thankfully Caleb got us to a bowl in year 4 but that was the first highlight since the World Trade Center was still standing.
Enter CTS. IIRC, had more red cannons than blue, but mostly lowlights, specifically Howard, but it got us the Mendenhall facility.
Enter Marcus Arroyo. Sweet shoe collection
Exit Marcus Arroyo.

The last two years have been so much fun. Please god let’s not revisit the past and keep the momentum.
That is one short ass road considering I went to my first game in the 70's, and went to all of the games of Cunningham while in college.

Jeff Horton era for me, when he kicked up a storm for defecting from the north, I was curious to see what the hubris was about. From then on I followed the team, I remember watching CNN SI (ESPN News copy cat) and they spent a lot of time airing the Jrob introductory presser. Holy cow, unlv football getting ANY national press was crazy to see.

Jason Vaughn, a name that brings back memories. Haven’t heard that name in a long time. Here’s another name, a Jason Thomas 2.0, Rocky Hinds.

Seeing that graphic for UNLV projected in the LA bowl is surreal too. Its been even more surreal that UNLV has been consistently on it since we've been bowl eligible. It's been the other team that's been changing. Between USC, UCLA, USC, Washington, and now Cal. I still can't wrap my head around being ranked next to Clemson either. I know that they'd thrash us, but I never thought I'd see the day.
Yeah, but just for fun, I'd like it to say "Boise State" on the final one

Good call on Frank the Tank! We also had a handful of legit receivers over the decades. Not quite NFL guys but damn good college guys. Brimmer was also a beast as was the previously mentioned Bell.

Decanter Davis if not for a knee injury was 100% an NFL caliber WR.

I'll never forget the ASU game. Or the Utah game. Utes wanted no part of Frank in the 4th quarter. A lot of Ole' ! tackling..

Seriously. This feels so unreal to even be on this graphic.

I know all of these things/memories you speak of.

Great post.
