UNLV Exploring Options After USU Joins PAC

“Stay and take the money” is no longer an option IMHO, as the conference is no longer worth rebuilding. No matter how large the promise of cash for you to stay ($50million anyone?) there is no guarantee you are even going to see half of that… and to do what? Expand on a conference with SJSU, UNM, WYO, UNR, HI, and AF, with what?

You’d be G5 in name only and you’d be dead with absolutely zero shot at ever being able to make a name for yourself that even warrants invitation to another G5, much less a P4.

No amount of money that’s realistic is worth that.

The only question now is how do you get out without paying $18million?

Air Force and UNLV are the only teams left with any value… which is why they got promised bonuses and a bigger share if they stayed. Both have had interest shown in them by the AAC and the PAC, the extent to which I’m not sure, but even behind the scenes I’m sure it’s there. Both I’m sure have issues paying the exit fees I’m sure as well… we obviously know this with UNLV but I’m sure it has to be the same with a government funded service academy to at least some extent.

So the play is this IMHO…

UNLV and AFA go to the MW and say “look, we feel for you guys, we really do, but it’s over and there ain’t nothing left but the crying. This is not a viable conference as it is and no matter who you want to add isn’t going to make it so. Now we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way… waive the conference exit fee for us or we’ll block anyone you try to add (that would be the quiet part that’s implied)… you can continue your collection efforts with the PAC and those other traitors and then you 5 can split the money you collect. That’s an extra 6% of the total settlement to each one of you sorry ass schools.

Once you let us out we’ll announce our intentions and you can get back to building your conference back up with whoever you want and you’ll all have a boatload of cash in reserves… how’s that sound?”

I don’t think the MW can say no.

If I’m UNLV and AFA I stick together and try to leverage a little bit, but honestly not too much, and go as a package deal to either the AAC or PAC. I think the PAC would probably be a better scenario but AAC would be fine as well.

That’s how I see it anyway.

Were pretty much on same page here.

I looked at what schools would be realistic options for MWC to poach.

Took out any AAC schools. MWC can't match their TV deal plus travel seems stupid for a lot of them. Travel has to be considered in this since these schools don't have Cal/Stanford money.

I considered FCS schools but said no for now.

I'm not trying to be snarky. I legitimately think that is probably the best we can do.

Nothing that Carl Reed tweeted is true. Reed is an ex football coach from STL. WTF would he or his sources have accurate info on? Sluka is from the east coast, so it's not like Reed has a long standing relationship with the family.

He's also got two of Odom's son following him. I'm pretty sure he has his sources in check.

What a cluster...

I have a few questions regarding NIL, and I'm not sure that anyone really knows the answer.

1. Who determines the amount to offer players, and how is that offer conveyed to a player/recruit?
2. How is an offer accepted? In the old days, you'd sign your LOI, and then eventually your scholly papers. Is the NIL paperwork integrated into the LOI package?
3. Does a school (UNLV in this case) have any responsibility to ensure that NIL agreements match what the player/coaches have discussed?
4. Does a school have any recourse if a player breaks their NIL agreement and walks away mid season?
5. Are there any rules for tampering anymore?

IMO, we paid everything he was entitled to in any written contract. If we didn't, we'd get sued and lose. Must have been - as his dad said _ a verbal promise of additional money that didn't come through.
He better be able to prove it was said. Could be just pulling things out of their arse to make their situation look better.

Well, unfortunately, that's the catch in this whole thing. Once agents become involved, it gets messy. If ASU (for example) goes to the NIL agent and says, we'd really like a mobile QB who has led his team to a 3-0 start, and are willing to pay him $XXX if he goes on redshirt and transfers to our school, but doesn't mention him by name, and that message gets relayed to Sluka, is the University at fault? Or at this point, does it even matter if they tell the agent his name and tell them to find out how much he wants? I don't know that there are any rules in place for this whole NIL game.
Perhaps the agent should be banned.

I'm posting this from the national board, and do NOT know of the accuracy of it, just passing on info:

Copied and pasted from the MAIN Board

"To everyone who responded to my post. I have a friend who works for Friends of UNILV (their collective), he said they've paid him everything he agreed to, got him a place to live and a vehicle to drive.

He came to them after the first win over Houston and said he needed a better car, they said they would look into it. He came again after the win over Kansas and asked for more money, they said they didn't have more. He asked where his new car was, they said none of the dealerships were interested for the price the collective could afford.

He went to the head coach. Head coach said he can't do anything, school isn't associated with the collective. He thew a fit and quit the team. The collective and university can't say shit, because of future ramifications."
