ABOUT THAT MONEY...

NIU would be a good add for football as of today anyway. Those two are better than the Dakotas, Montana or UTEP. They need two I would add NMSU and Texas State (their attendance is at least MWC range).

And they are trying to build up football.

Also despite smallish immediate market it is 7th largest school in Texas based on enrollment.

HUGE NEWS!

According to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by President Whitfield, the Mountain West will pay an estimated lump sum of $10-to-14 million to UNLV in 2025, and also pay UNLV approximately $1.5-to-1.8 million annually over a six-year period beginning in July 2026. The new payments are on top of the current revenue streams from existing contracts and media assets. The current media deal expires in June 2026 and negotiations for a new media deal will begin in the near future. The university will also have the flexibility to explore future membership in an autonomous “Power Four” conference without penalty should the opportunity become available.
Very good deal if true. Especially the P4 move without penalty

Unlv & Air Force in contact w/AAC

5 years, take 40 million in the departure fees and add a revenue share increase of 1.5- 2 million? Seems like easy money to get yourself situated for 2030 Big 12 expansion
Don't mean to toot my own horn here but I got called put on a cold takes thread and I've been pretty on point for realignment....

Also I'm not Harper, lol...

TV Deal

Nothern Illinois had a nice run 10-15 years ago, if I remember had a good RB. Since then have been bad to mediocre and without looking can guarantee their TV ratings don’t even register in Chicago.

ABOUT THAT MONEY...

Agreed. Supposedly the PAC offered those schools 2.5 million towards their buyouts, which were expected to be somewhere in the 15-25 million. Plus, you have no media agreement to be able to sell them on. The PAC guys still think they're going to get 12-15 million per school per year.

I'm not so sure they think that now...

I'm looking across conferences and I can't see anything out there that gets them to that number.

And being stuck at 8 for football is awful.

That's another OOC game you have to find.

ABOUT THAT MONEY...

Well if the Memphis offer was terrible imagine what UNLV was offered..

ABOUT THAT MONEY...

Yeah… I get that part… though there was still the issue everyone having to pay those exit fees if they were to leave.

Like they would have theoretically always been there til the last team or two, or whatever was standing.

Go back to the “bonuses” for a second… the whole idea is silly because it’s all their money anyway… the only teams getting a bonus are AF and UNLV.

For the sake of math let’s say the whole final amount is $100 million… I personally don’t think they’ll collect all of it but that’s for another discussion.

UNLV and AFA will be getting a “bonus” of $13 million each more than all the others.

It almost makes me think that any PAC offer had to be terrible… like maybe worse than not helping with exit fees. Because I guess if you’re UNLV you look at it as a more than $31 million bonus or maybe more. Save $18 million, bonus of $13 million = $31 million difference to stay.

Might be slightly more if they collect more or if UNLV and AFA told those hosers they want a bigger share of the next media deal as well.

Maybe it makes sense. I don’t love it though but maybe it’s best for UNLV.

OK I feel I "little better" if this is true.

I typically don't beleive Arrigo, but the details are so specific I am inclined to believe him. This also makes a little more sense.
We basically shut the door on the PAC forever, but leave it open for the Big 12. Still very risky, but we have to take advantage of the next 2 seasons ( including this one) to really have a shot. After that, it gets much, much more difficult.

What if...(Hope springs eternal thinking here)

But what if...

UNLV goes to Gloria..

You pay us X amount we stay buying time for you to rebuild the conference.

We are currently in talks with the BIG12 and intend to leave in 20XX.

No exit fees. No grant of rights stuff. Free and clear.

The other less sunshine and roses scenario is UNLV added the P4 verbiage to keep the dogs at bay in terms of negative fan and booster reaction. 'Just say P4 these fools will buy it.

OK I feel I "little better" if this is true.

Straight from UNLV ….
