NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

I'm thinking that this "verbal" offer is a ploy to get Pac and MWC to outbid each other. I don't see it as legit since offers aren't made verbally (when done in this capacity).
I think you are right. The announcement said it was a verbal offer and negotiations are still going on. That sounds like TX St posturing and stalling for more time to get the PAC to think about it.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

I'm down with Texas State. They have a lot going on and also a very good football coach. Need to agree to change their name to the Fighting Dillos first though (not sure many will get that). Just don't throw it to Stonehands
That kicker tho...

Lol.

TX State. Only changed third name recently. They used to be Southwest Texas State when that movie came out

AP Poll

It will be close. Might sneak in.

#20 Oklahoma State lost and #19 Illinois lost. (I think that was their rankings)

Oklahoma State got hammered by Kansas State so they could fall quite a bit.

Illinois lost at Penn State 21-7. Game was a slog.

Personally don't care much about the rankings really. (Yet) Nice seeing a # next to UNLV for sure.

Keep winning games the rest will take care of itself. Not getting much help from KU or Houston. Houston lost ugly.
That’s my take as well. I didn’t see any Spotscenter top 10 or anything, but UNLV could’ve easily had two from special teams plays. Those sorts of things tend to make people notice, and thus vote.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

Are we really thinking of taking three teams? Is it just about getting to 10?

I know 10 is best for scheduling but I’d want to bring in the least possible so as not to dilute any new media rights agreement any more than it has to be. Unless maybe you’re bringing in those teams under some lower status for a period of time maybe.

Aside from that, and without ANY real knowledge of any of the markets and what not, I’d say Texas State, NMSt, UTEP in that order.

PAC….terrible leadership!

Meh, too early to say how this thing shakes out. They are obviously in a rough spot that I'm sure they really didn't think they would be in right now. But they would be sitting pretty good if we just said yes. Whichbthey should have just asked us in the beginning or had a much better strategy with the AAC teams. They should have known the 27 month rule since the AAC was recently raided.

First mistake was making the agreement with the MW to begin with. They were desperate, sure, but they should have looked at the numbers then before agreeing to the poaching fees. That is what is killing their plan more than anything. If they thought they were going to rebuild they should have just went out to other teams and tried their best. Either that or agreed to a higher per game price with the Mw with no poaching fees.

What I think happened is that they fully anticipated a merger and just could stomach the bottom line payouts. Which I get, our suck. Especially since they cleared 37 mil a piece from just the PAC revenue sharing the season before.

But once they get their 8th, and we fill out our conference we will see how bad or good it gets for them .

One thing for sure is that I don't want a reverse merger at this point. Hell naw. Harp and Whitfield are going P4 or bust and they need that extra money from this last deal to perhaps make that plan happen if they extend Odom ASAP as I hope. We have a legit football team ladies and gents and our coaching staff is about to get serious interest. We need to extend and cross our fingers. If we get poached then we will have an even bigger pot to find another p4 quality coach
I THINK I’m still for it, but I’m far less sure than I was a few days ago.

First off, like you said, the extra money for UNLV will go a LONG way towards continuing success, which is an absolute necessity to make the jump when the next opportunity presents itself… and that could be coming soon, within the next few years.

Any reverse merger at this point would at worst have to include provisions that the bonuses still get paid to the teams who held it together.

Second, UNLV is in a really good spot THIS season. A lot of football left to be played but, over the next 8 games UNLV is going to be the favorite in all but one, and by the time that game happens they could actually be the favorite in the biggest home game ever… Boise St of course.

IF, and it’s a very big IF because there’s a lot that can happen, they’ll be playing in the new “biggest game”, once again at home, in the MWC Championship.

IF IF IF IF IF… they’ll be in the CFP.

Again, long ways away and a lot has to go right, but dare I say it’s possible? Holy Sh!t!!!

So if THAT happens that’s another pile of cash for the conference and UNLV that wouldn’t have to be shared with those traitors.

In the end the PAC is going to be the “better” conference, but not by as much as some think. BUT, in the near term over the next five years UNLV is going to be a MUCH better program thanks to all the extra cash.

Yeah, talked myself into agreeing with you… f**k a merger.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

I wonder.

Which way would you rather go in expanding?

Texas State with NMSU and UTEP?

Or go all in on FCS schools and do something like Sac State, Idaho (They've been FBS before) Montana, Montana State and maybe UTEP (I don't love UTEP but completely ignoring Texas seems like a mistake)
I really think we need to limit FCS or completely avoid them.
First 5 mill up front is a lot. More than exit fees for the other FBS teams.
Second there could be more funding needing to get them up to par on facilities.
Third and most importantly, none of them would help the media deal, at least not initially. Sac state has potential, but it wouldnt show up on our next deal. The better FCS teams are in tiny state populations without good brand recognition.
Fourth they would bring down SOS at least initially. And the basketball would be even more horrid. FCS calls ups all tend to struggle with the transition, and they have recently been joining worse conferences that us, yes even considering what the new MW will be.
I still think UTEP is better than TX St. Though I am coming around more on TX st.
Traditionally Texas St. Has the reputation in terms of their student/almuni is that they wanted to go to Texas, but couldn't get in. San Marcos is close to Austin that their student still go to UT games but go to class in San Marcos.
Now I do think that narrative is changing, but still 100% exists with many of their students. San Marcos has 70k people, El Paso has 670k.
And again UTEP, though with a smaller enrollment has more fans who prioritize UTEP.

But I think we go after both.

I think we should add NMSU, UTEP, and TX State As full time members. Still try to get the 2 Midwest schools for football only, and try to raid the WCC for some Bball only schools.

PAC….terrible leadership!

It adds another level to the UNLV/BSU game. If UNLV beats BSU, the best PAC team at this point, the MWC has bragging rights and shows PAC leadership didn’t include the best football team in its plans. After all their scheming they left out the hottest up and coming program in the country in the most exciting and sellable market. Makes you think some of the traitorous 4 insisted upon it given how obvious it was to include UNLV.

AP Poll

Eye test we look good BUT until yesterday’s beat down of Fresno our wins are not looking strong given how those opponents have performed since then. Layer in our historic futility as a program and that even in our own conf BSU is already ranked and has been taking care of business since a close game at Oregon. A ranking would be nice but I also want our guys hungry. Syracuse would be a strong win but personally think we need to beat BSU to really impress and also lay claim to MWC bragging rights.

Brutal take on ESPN but you love to see it 😂

Trending up: Underpaying your QBs

Just days after UNLV starting QB Matthew Sluka left the team amid an NIL dispute, suggesting he had been promised $100,000 but paid just $3,000, the Rebels took the field and looked like they might have overpaid Sluka by $3,000.

Hajj-Malik Williams stepped in to start and tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another while accounting for 301 total yards of offense in a 59-14 win over Fresno State.

It's an important lesson for everyone to know their worth. If you've ever called out of work because there was still beer left in a keg and it was getting warm, you're probably replaceable. If you've ever taken a Zoom from the bathroom, you're almost certainly replaceable. If you've ever completed just 43% of your throws through three games, you're without a doubt replaceable. And if someone promised you six figures and you didn't get it in writing, honestly, you're probably replaceable.
