NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

I'm 100% all in on UTEP/TEXAS STATE.

I think you need a Texas presence of some kind.

I saw some Sagrin rating model thingy posted on the Twitter. Com .

It was showing if the MWC added Montana State Montana SAC STATE Idaho I think? plus UTEP NMS that based on those additions MWC would be third rated G5.

Not great but not the disaster I assumed.
I dont think the MWC adds 4 FCS teams. That's not a sustainable model. Maybe 1, you pick which one you think is best add. You either ask if they have the $ to elevate from FCS or you offer. But you limit it. Otherwise you're selling your product short. And I don't see a scenario where FCS programs jump with smaller media shares, even if it's higher than they're currently getting

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

30,000 expandable to 45,000.

Yep.

I'm not down on Allegiant. I just don't think it was needed for UNLV to get into a P5. (Sam Boyd wasn't an option either)

I've been on a ton of road trips for UNLV. Outside of the Cathedrals of football. The Big House, Horsehoe and Notre Dame none of them were much to write home about.

Northwestern was awful. Campus community around it was super cool. WSU stadium wasn't anything special.

I don't view FB stadiums like I do baseball. Once you're inside its all pretty much the same. Baseball you get different nuances with field configurations.

No joke one of the coolest stadiums was the Sun Bowl/Utep the way it was built into the mountain.

PAC….terrible leadership!

No, I think what they expected to happen was a handful of the other top MWC brands would leave and dissolve the conference avoiding fees all together. They miscalculated the conference sticking together
I think you are right. But I also think they didn’t foresee the fact that they inadvertently handed over to the MWC a war chest of $90 to $140 mill and that the MWC has a very aggressive commissioner who wasn’t going to just roll over.

Hypothetical: if the traitor schools decide to come back

How should the MW respond?

  • Accept them back with open arms

    Votes: 7 18.4%
  • Accept them back with a penalty (like forfeiting a small percentage of media revenue)

    Votes: 16 42.1%
  • Have them reapply

    Votes: 2 5.3%
  • Reject them and tell them to figure it out.

    Votes: 5 13.2%
  • Accept some schools, and reject others

    Votes: 8 21.1%

Genuinely curious what people think.

On one hand, we would be hurting ourselves when it comes to media negotiations and lose a of potential money.

On the other hand, now the MW will struggle to pay what they promised AF and UNLV to stay.

Do we do what they did and decide to be picky about who we take back or do we take the whole bus?

Do we still try to expand?

Where did it predict the PAC ?

Bad Day For The PAC12

Here I am. Fire away.

I don't even have much commentary. Jeanty kicked our ass singlehandedly. One play - he runs straight into our D lineman, just bounces off of him and tears downfield. Their blitzes killed us obviously. We had no answer. Our too-young O-Coordinator sucks. Mateer didn't play too bad, but couldn't get rid of it when blitzed (his fault or WR or both?) and we tried way too many runs up the gut by him and our RBs. Thankfull a week off before playing Fresno. I hear that they are really good. :)

No pile on from me.

Jeanty is insanely good. Does he ever not gain at least 4 yards?

I mean this seriously if you 'contain' him it means he was under 150 yards.

PAC….terrible leadership!

Also, what I struggle to get my mind around is this. After agreeing to pay exit fees for SDSU, Boise, CSU and Fresno, the PAC2 truely expected UNLV would jump at their different offer which required UNLV to pay $18 mill out of pocket to join a P5 conference! That was incredibly delusional! Then Gloria counters with a $30 mill bonus to stay in th MWC. That’s a no brainer and a $48 million swing. Now Gloria moves very quickly and offers Texas State. But the PAC is sitting back and twittering its thumbs trying to figure out what to do next. I have read Gloria is also in contact with UTEP.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

I really think we need to limit FCS or completely avoid them.
First 5 mill up front is a lot. More than exit fees for the other FBS teams.
Second there could be more funding needing to get them up to par on facilities.
Third and most importantly, none of them would help the media deal, at least not initially. Sac state has potential, but it wouldnt show up on our next deal. The better FCS teams are in tiny state populations without good brand recognition.
Fourth they would bring down SOS at least initially. And the basketball would be even more horrid. FCS calls ups all tend to struggle with the transition, and they have recently been joining worse conferences that us, yes even considering what the new MW will be.
I still think UTEP is better than TX St. Though I am coming around more on TX st.
Traditionally Texas St. Has the reputation in terms of their student/almuni is that they wanted to go to Texas, but couldn't get in. San Marcos is close to Austin that their student still go to UT games but go to class in San Marcos.
Now I do think that narrative is changing, but still 100% exists with many of their students. San Marcos has 70k people, El Paso has 670k.
And again UTEP, though with a smaller enrollment has more fans who prioritize UTEP.

But I think we go after both.

I think we should add NMSU, UTEP, and TX State As full time members. Still try to get the 2 Midwest schools for football only, and try to raid the WCC for some Bball only schools.

I'm 100% all in on UTEP/TEXAS STATE.

Why?!

Is everyone so scared of Syracuse?!!

They rushed for 125 against our ex QB’s school which is not a feat by any means.
We are at home and Fresno State was no slouch, we play our game, we will beat them too! Yes they beat GT who beat a bad Florida State team, not such a big deal now.

Yes McCord can throw but do you really think the defense we have will let him throw for 350 or 400 yards, I don’t think so?

We will be fine!
I wouldnt be surprised if he puts up 400 yds. However, I feel good about us shutting down their running game, and hopefully coming up with a couple of turnovers too. Should be an entertaining game.

NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

35 to 40k Would be bigger or as big as a number of schools that recently made the jump to P4 conferences. Smu/Cincy. 40k puts you right on par with Universty of Houston another recent P4 invite.

I agree, UNLV needs to get more aggressive in tix pricing.

No matter how good UNLV gets avg 45k or more will be difficult.

Houston had good teams in the past. Has bigger population. And even when they had that solid run with Herman not so long ago topping 40/45k was difficult.

My point is if UNLV would have had an on campus stadium years ago attendance numbers likely would have been better. Just take Rebel Net, you saw how many people bitched and moaned about Sam Boyd and how far it was and used it as an excuse not to go.

We hosted teams like Wisconsin, Iowa State, Kansas State, UofA in the past at Sam Boyd.

A nice shiny new 35-40k on campus stadium would have been fine.

Agree 100%. But yeah - Teresa is all about keeping her job. At the expense of the Pac-2 and Traitorous 5. And the MW.
After the flop of the past week, I can't see her doing that... I can't see The top 4 being anything but upset over not being able to secure targets, break up the MWC, or keep their cash on hand... and now you're discussing flying into El Paso or bussing up from San Antonio as the best available options...

Hajj

Was there more to the Sluka story than NIL? It was a BYE week, was Hajj getting more reps? Was Sluka going to get less PT or sat all together?
Doubt it.
I also disagree with other post that we'd have lost with Sluka. Our defense played lights out and our special teams dominated the game. It probably isnt the beatdown we saw, but nothing I saw out of Fresno tells me the outcome would've resulted in anything more than a closer W.

UNLV Stats

The Turnover margins to me leap out on page along with run defense... Srs at QB and ball security by RBs has been huge this year.
Also turning teams into 1 dimensional passing teams unleashes the defense to get after the QB. Keene had a ton of pressure in his face all day yesterday and was seeing ghosts at times.
We did get a little sloppy and a little over confident during the beatdown and drew some dumb penalties

A reverse merger and Gloria's idea about relegation and promotion to reward the better schools and make the poorer schools earn it would have kept a lot of money in your pockets. Theresa never would bring up the idea of relegation and promotion because Gloria thought of it first.
I still see a merge as by far the best option for both conferences, but the egos may never let that happen!
