PAC HIRES OCTAGON

I can’t see them coming up with enough money to get at least two teams from the AAC, especially if what someone else said is true, that the AAC has money in reserve to counter them.

I doubt reverse merger still works with us adding Hawaii full and UTEP, but it still might be their best option.

Is it the best option for UNLV and AF, and to a lesser degree the other schools? Probably yes for the other schools, maybe yes for AF, not sure on UNLV.

Same goes for if the PAC comes back to UNLV with a better offer. Even if the PAC offers to cover all fees I’m not sure it’s worth it. UNLV still has a deficit to deal with and needs to up Odoms deal. With the money they’re getting this seems easy, without it they’ll end up having to go to the regents and politics come in to play.

Plus, likely losing the free card to go to an AQ conference is kinda sticky.

A Lot can change but..

There is a thing now called the G5 rankings. It is different now. I am not certain but whoever finishes #1 here will likely get the spot. We only moved down to #3 after last week. Also notice there are teams in this poll from AAC, Sunbelt, MWC, Conference doesn't matter, if you're good enough for the next 2 years, you'll be in this poll and in-play for a bid, regardless of where you play.

Also the top 30-60 or so P4s are going to split apart in a couple years anyways.

Surprised Tulane is so high their best win is Louisiana?

He doesn't have great speed or size and won't be able to bounce off tackles in the NFL like he does now. I sort of see him as a MJD type of pro, which isn't bad.
Fair and I agree that his YAC won’t be where it is now when he gets to the NFL.

I acknowledge that he will make a team, just that I don’t think that he will be impactful or sustain. Good for him for making money now and in the NFL that feeds he and his family and generations to come.

Maybe he will be a backup RB there for 4-5 years, and good for him on that. That’s my projection of him.

I saw some tweet somewhere saying the UNLV resorted to "dirty tactics" in our game last week.

Anyone else see this?

It feels to me that people looked at the box score and assumed that we must have done something dirty.

But for dirty? Naw. No flags, and there was some gamesmanship with piling on and pushing off and things of that nature. You know, the same stuff that has been going on since Jim Brown?

Boise fans just can't admit we have a good defense and probably cost him the Heisman. He was clearly hurt after bracing his fall on a tackle and it affected him every time he took a hit or ran towards the crowd... after the game they kept hyping the 128 yards with out any discussion on how many carries it took to do that. They can keep feeding him 30 times a game, because by December dudes gonna be exhausted.

Light at the end of the tunnel.

Dare to be great. Does that mean that we should be pulling out the heavy bag all four games and get crushed by traditional top 15 schools? No. But we shouldn't be scheduling cupcakes just have a win ratio like Liberty.
Our OOC is pretty much set the next 3-4 years. Next year we play Sam Houston, UCLA, Miami OH and Idaho St. The following year we play N. TX, Akron and Cal. I'm not sure we can change any of those games or agreements. If we can, we should bump it up.

Maybe not but he is projected to go possibly as early as mid first round so there are people that think he is.
Because they are picking Jerry Jones to take him. So that may become an early first round grade depending on where the team ends up. 🤣

I will admit that I watched only his game against us this season and don't remember him in the MWC game last season. Also, I was watching the two RB's from the Steelers last night as my comparison. I think that Harris would be much better with a better O-line, and the kid who played at Kentucky has talent. I don't see the same when I watch RB1 from Boise.

Interesting that UNLV is still ahead of Army. That bodes well.

I think winning out and beating Boise has us jumping Tulane easily. They still have Memphis and Navy to play, and could get a good game in the AAC championship. But they would have 2 losses and no wins near the quality of Boise.

Not sure how much these metrics fall in line with the playoff ranking criteria, but I am sure that this is at least a part of their ranking system.

PAC HIRES OCTAGON

Getting that last school might bankrupt them. The AAC has some funds to play with to win a bidding war, so likely those schools are out. As much as it might hurt Boise or sdsu; the best fit for that conference is still UNLV.

If the Pac can’t sell out to buy UNLV out; then that means they have to buy out NMST or something similar. If I am NMST, or UTSA; I am playing hardball for a full share. It’ll hurt their “metrics”, and more importantly their pride. They don’t have a deep war chest.
They can go get NMSU and still be ahead of a merger payout. Obviously that would hurt their bottom line and their precious, precious reputation (lol).

I think they need outside help on who they can target that will maximize what they can get at this point. But they can get a team that brings nothing to the media table and still have a much better deal than what we are about to get.

PAC HIRES OCTAGON

This all makes sense.

Their advisors from the beginining were there media partners. Their targets were picked specifically to make everyone the most money.

UNLV turning them down, and basically all of the MW now locked out, they are scrambling. So bringing in a new advisory team makes sense. But it isn't like the PAC were just going rogue from the beginning. Everything was done with their media partners heavy advice.

They are one team away. Things are not that dire. They will end up with a better contract per team then what the MW will get, and better than what they would have gotten with a merger. So from that persective it is a success.

The cost up front looks steep now and even with reductions, the break even point seems pretty far off for the PAC 2. But the new teams? Not a bad deal for them.

Looks like recruiting has picked up!

My guess, to keep recruiting going Marion might get 1st look. If Marion (or Scherer) were to get the job, I would 100% try and get special teams coach Shibest to stay. Offer him some title like assistant HC position to up his pay. I think he's been that impactful.
Why not Shibest as the head coach?

I mean, from resume alone, he is the best candidate. Has been one of the best coordinators in the game and has been successful everywhere he has been.

I know, I know. Not very common. Hauck was a ST coordinator and that didn't work. And who knows if he can recruit.

But the players love him and respect him, that seems certain.

Looks like recruiting has picked up!

That has to be the plan or Scherer ODOM hypes him up. 1000% you have to keep as much staff as possible. Odom leaves and take his staff we will have to another rebuild. UNLESS we find a HOMERUN HIRE!

Many moons ago but would have liked to seen..

I still remember Dick Vitale saying that he sees dark days for UNLV basketball around the time Tark was forced out. I didn't believe him and thought he was being melodramatic. It's been a slow, inexorable, 30-year decline into utter irrelevancy.
