Board Member Responses

I spoke with a board member and she said in no way has this been discussed with board members. She said not even behind the scenes casual type conversations as far as she is aware. No board members have mentioned it to her. She fully supports each of the universities making their own independent decisions should that occur. She has no official idea why UNLV wasn't invited but has heard rumors that it is because Las Vegas is now considered a professional sports city and that college support has a ceiling in Las Vegas. They also don't need UNLV to access the Vegas market. Rumor is they are targeting the AAC next and if that falls through they could come back to UNLV. Or if the MWC implodes they would take UNLV they just don't view us worth paying the exit fees. Also they want Gonzaga and St. Mary's for basketball. All of this a rumor that she heard from one person for what it is worth.
Funny it played out just like she said they targeted the AAC then came back to us and wanted Gonzaga and St M for basketball. St M not mentioned yet but believe that is because they need Gonzaga for that to make sense.

We are the backup plan?

If UNLV, for some dumb reason, turns down the PAC, it'll be another MW school they take. Even if their only option left was UNR. SJSU/UNM/Wyoming would be my guess. Reason I bring this up is because, the PAC still holds all the cards. When USU broke rank, all MOU went out the window. Not just UNLV's. They need us to save face, but we're not getting anywhere near what the 4 original traitors are getting. We'll be LUCKY if they pay our exit fees at this point.
If they don’t pay our fees then I would say AAC and they can have Reno.

We are the backup plan?

Hey look on the brightside guys! With BOISE/CSU/SDSU/USU out of the conference UNLV only has to beat out New Mexico to get an auto bid for basketball..We're on top again boys!

Also don't tell me you aren't looking forward to the electric atmosphere at the Mack when newest basketball only member of the MWC CAL STATE SAN LOSER ABYSMAL comes to town.
It’s UNLV basketball we will find a way once again not to win the conference.

Unlv & Air Force in contact w/AAC

Per McMurphy’s latest report- Glad to hear some big donors were outraged!

However, Air Force and UNLV, the Pac-12’s next top two targets, decided to remain in the Mountain West.

Or did they? UNLV, which told the Mountain West it would remain, later decided it would consider its options after Utah State decided it would leave for the Pac-12.

Rebel donors were outraged by the decision to remain in the Mountain West, sources said.
Glad to hear it, staying in the MWC is an outrageously horrible but very UNLV like decision.

UNLV Exploring Options After USU Joins PAC

All these teams are doing what they can to position themselves for the ultimate consolidation. It could be two super conferences (SEC and B 10) with everyone else chasing crumbs. Or three ( add the B 12 or ACC ) But the ultimate goal is to be part of the "Final Solution" and not get left behind so far your program is completely irrelevant.

I think we have no choice now but to play our card soon and join the PAC or ACC. ( I'd prefer PAC due to travel issues ) Either conference should be good enough that if a team can dominate - be a consistent CFP selectee in addition to a consistent NCAA Tournament selectee - it can be in a position to get in the B12 and possibly be sitting with adults rather than children when it all shakes out.

Does the offense wake up this week?

Actually he throws better on the move so far. It is kinda backwards, but he tends to overthrow guys with his feet set.
Is it nerves or adrenaline? Is it timing? Who knows. You'd think that would improve, right?
Either way I would like to see incorporating more pass plays, perhaps RPO's, with him rolling to his right. That awkward cross body sling pass has been his best throw so far this year.

I think it was Caleb Herring that said the over throws are a byproduct of his arm angle/delivery.

He has good arm strength. He doesn't have particularly great touch.

As to main topic.

If UNLV can hit one or two shots downfield early it will go a long way in keeping Fresno from loading the box.

We are the backup plan?

Probably because they thought football was “done”. Or at least they assumed it would be. Just guessing though

Possible.

Mentioned this before as a possibility of what went down.

PAC had been in contact with Memphis for some time. Had a handshake agreement that they would join and bring Tulane, USF and UTSA along. PAC bought it. Memphis meanwhile used this as leverage to get a better deal out of the AAC. I'm not sure they ever were all that serious about jumping ship.

We are the backup plan?

A couple of big outlets (CBS sorts I think?) tweeted something to the effect that PAC and Gonzaga were in talks and Gonzaga was expected to announce a move to PAC. About 30 minutes later they all retracted it.

UNLV Exploring Options After USU Joins PAC

Air Force and UNLV could be a difference maker if they team together whether it be into the PAC or to the AAC.

100%

8s the minimum but 9 is actually perfect to get your 8 conference games. No unbalanced schedule.

Stick at 9 until 2030? 2031? when all this stuff goes haywire again.

Streamlines the conference. You aren't having to spread the wealth with too many mouths to feed.

Leaves room to expand if the money or opportunity arises that makes sense.

Not sure they would do it or it even makes sense to do it but AAC could make a power move and absorb/merge with entire remaing MWC.

PAC would be in utter disarray at that point.

UNLV Exploring Options After USU Joins PAC

It’s a whirl wind for sure. Things are literally changing hourly. It is interesting that UNLV and Air Force are seemingly negotiating together. Nothing would surprise me at this point. Just hope they make the best decision.

We are the backup plan?

I posted this on the confidential board:
I think we will wake up in the morning with UNLV in the PAC, but striking a deal with them to cover the exit fees. UNLV seems like they have the high ground for once in their existence. Maybe UNLV really did play this thing out right, maybe they just drove the dagger into the coffin. I don’t like the idea of sticking it out in the MW because of “money” now… it’s short sighted esp with the tv contract coming to an end in 2 years. There just isn’t enough out there to replace what was lost now that 5 schools have gone. The only issue is now that AAC said no, who else is going to join the remaining teams in the PAC? Let’s face it basketball will be dogs*** in the new MW, while PAC is actually looking decent with Gonzaga. Attendance will be even more abysmal playing against UTEP, Montana, etc. If Utah State stayed put I think a merger was the only option left for the PAC.
I could see Grand Canyon becoming a player in a few years. The school has a lot of money and being a private school is not held to the same regulations is public schools and explains how their basketball program has improved so quickly.

Today? Maybe. After they go through their entire conference slate? That SOS is going to tank big time

Just looking at the fact James Madison struggled to beat lower division 1-3 Gardner-Webb tells me that the North Carolina win was a one off win!

In a weird twist, could the AAC suddenly be in the mix?

There was an article outlining that their commish might use Air Force and UNLV as a chip to help keep Memphis by bolstering the conference. Which is weird since it's two more mouths to feed...

lol- I’m a football first guy but if I was a basketball first guy I’d be furious too. This new basketball conference will be hot garbage too.
Maybe we can add some more sub 300 net teams like Sac State to fit right in with AFA and SJSU.

Same here. I'm a casual basketball fan at best. Watch the Rebs and March Madness. That's it.

And you are correct.

The trickle down impact is going to be felt beyond football.
